I’m up to episode 26 of Kamen Rider Kuuga which means I am now a little more than halfway through the series. I also watched the second episode of Kamen Rider Gaim on YouTube before that.
|
Because of Saber, I'm getting through Ghost right now. And..
Well I'll be. I'm enjoying it so far. I'll settle my thoughts once I get through the whole show. https://i.imgur.com/MXjjoaa.jpg |
Oh nice, glad to hear.
|
Good, good... we'll convert another yet...

But yeah, jokes aside, it's legitimately always nice to hear someone enjoying Ghost. (Also, just seeing that screencap gets me unreasonably excited, by the way. That episode is SO good.) |

Kamen Rider W(atch)
Nazca Arc Episode 9-10: The S Terror S stands for Sweets (̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶a̶l̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶S̶m̶i̶l̶e̶,̶ ̶S̶i̶s̶t̶e̶r̶,̶ ̶S̶a̶d̶i̶s̶t̶i̶c̶,̶ ̶S̶u̶r̶p̶r̶i̶s̶e̶,̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶S̶e̶r̶v̶i̶c̶e̶ ̶h̶o̶w̶e̶v̶e̶r̶)̶ and Sonozaki Written by: Riku Sanjo, Directed by: Takayuki Shibasaki /The Maid Detective Witnessed It! Akiko pretends to be W by wearing the Double Driver, performing henshin pose with her slipper, invites Phillip, and wants to count the sins of the enemy... in this case Shotaro, throwing the debt book to him (and of course the slipper too, she's enraged this time), showing him that their debt isn't going down due to Shotaro buying hard-boiled novels, while, a different one finally for slipper use, she rubs her slipper into one of his novels. Again, good thing that Akiko doesn't actually wear them, albeit it still can tear a page off. Shotaro treats them, obviously, as detective/life manual. This highlights relatable excuse when someone is forbidden to follow your favorite medias (can be from parent) or if those are criticized, that they'll excuse their favorite media as something teaching. Shotaro does retaliate for once, by throwing Akiko's slipper away without her looking. Shotaro freezes up again when Akiko brings up her father while questioning his detective abilities, him against Asuka before mirrors him against Akiko. They suddenly got a bunch of clients, not related but all has similar case, famous pastry chefs related to any one of them missing. It really is a fortune It being pastry-related, Shotaro's mockery is "half-baked" here, as Shotaro tries to keep Akiko away from danger again but is deemed as acting cool. One of the clients Mai Asakawa gives them information regarding her missing father Yuzo, who is the best pâtissière in the town, and suspects the estate as the reason. Which refers to Sonozaki estate, in the discussion (and bickering for former 2) between Shotaro, Makura, and Jinno, where they're kicked out and the cops back off from investigation, being scared of the head family. While using Gaia Library Phillip also notices that all of the missing people are guests in the mansion, and Shotaro suspects Ryubee inviting the first-rate chefts to prepare dessert. As they wonder about Akiko, it's revealed that she went undercover in the mansion as one of the maids, going along with Mai's invitation to the mansion, who was training with her father to be a pâtissière. Akiko stays loud in her undercover, being hyperactive (also being fine after jumping from heights), forcefully feeding Mick, and acting starstruck against Wakana. For that Akiko got reprimanded by the head maid Sugishita, and tasks for another maid Shirotsuka and Sasaki to keep an eye on her. Shirotsuka is more condescending while Sasaki tolerates her more, explaining how things are run there. Akiko escapes and does an investigation of her own with her notebook, and meets up with Mai herself after seeing her boss that has high standards (Mai sees this as an honor to be selected by Sonozaki family.. seems that the family has good public reputation at this time), and relates with her that Akiko too, becomes a detective to follow after her dad. Shotaro signals Akiko with Stag Phone to have her come to him and warn her about how stubborn she is to ignore his warnings that the place is dangerous. Like Shotaro himself of being hard-boiled, Akiko overestimates her detective abilities as being Ace Detective due to knowing that she has to go undercover for the place's danger, and keeps teasing him that he "can't get in" and for not giving the answer for her dad. I guess the latter is the show being self-aware about people hiding truth from girls, but (CMIIW) I don't even know if Akiko knows fully about being undercover, she doesn't bother to hide her identity or behavior. Phillip brings up this too that he may have to tell her about how they become Double, but Shotaro is revealed to have guilt complex, blaming himself for Sokichi's death. I guess it's also how he's moral (a̶n̶d̶ ̶"̶h̶a̶l̶f̶-̶b̶o̶i̶l̶e̶d̶"̶), to put others above himself by that. The 'undercover' part of her is questionable further, that after Ryubee praises Mai's cake, Akiko openly exposes Mai in front of the family, like it directly potentially puts both in danger instead? Though Ryubee is more tolerant of this compared to other part of the family like Saeko and other maids (while Wakana treats Akiko as laughing stock due to her being insane), he claims he'll remember both Mai and Akiko. Yeah nice job...considering that the next thing Shotaro and Phillip discuss is about how the missing pastry chefs are top 5 in the town and Mai's currently top 6, and potential next target, but on his way, Kirihiko corners Shotaro and accuses him as Wakana stalker, but breaks free as he sees Mai being pulled by a cream. They henshin into W to fight the cream user Sweets Dopant, and plans to use Heat, but the right hand is already hardened by the cream, so they resort to use CycloneMetal with Bat Shot to perform Sonic Shaft, freeing them. Kirihiko also joins the brawl as Nazca Dopant. Akiko gets reprimanded again by other maid who pulls her by ear, but she escapes by dumping a trashcan into her to check out the boss due to him being suspicious. It's a gag that the boss admits that he's exposed... but about him being still terrible at golf, and then follows after Ryubee, who later debuts as Terror Dopant. /The Great Detective's Daughter Terror Dopant's mere presence halts W's battle, due to his fear inducing power, and all the fighters escape, and drives Shotaro further to keep Akiko away from harm with that kind of power existing around them. Sasaki reports to Akiko that Mai is attacked, and Akiko checks her out. I guess the danger is benefical then that Mai knows the source of the kidnap for her father and other pastry chefs, though of course there has to be an intervention from W to save another target from danger. Shotaro calls out Akiko for putting her client into danger, and she quickly apologizes this time, Shotaro noting that it's much easier than he thinks. She seemingly accepts a room of improvement that she opens up that she's jealous to Shotaro as she only vaguely remember her father. Shotaro continues with a teaching moment that he too was chewed out by Sokichi due to putting a client family in danger, and was going to reveal about Sokichi's condition albeit Akiko leaves midway to prove herself as Sokichi's' daughter again. Ryubee too, actually suspects that there's a Dopant among their staff, so he's not the main aggressor here, though Saeko had her own plans regarding W against her father's. Akiko visits Ryubee to ask to gather every staff in the sweets time, with the more tolerant Ryubee complying to her request, while suspicious Shotaro follows her in the museum, noticing the coincidence that the museum displays tyrannosaurus, magma, and anomalocaris, the types of Dopant he fought before, with Ryubee introducing himself to Shotaro. Akiko again, can't keep it to herself that she openly reveals that she's a detective that pretends to be a maid (with Shotaro flabbergastered at this), and assumes the fat Shirotsuka as the culprit, due to her having an appetite to sweets. This is a shallow judgment to base it on appearence, as Shirotsuka herself said. While Phillip actually figures out the culprit using the keywords, as well as the words of Sweets Dopant, that he reports to Shotaro that Sasaki is the culprit, a food critic and writes the book that rates the pastry chefs. But due to Akiko preparing the pastry there, Sasaki is disgusted and is blinded by her anger, exposing herself as Sweets Dopant to take revenge on Akiko. I guess Shotaro and Phillip can continue from that point to deal with Sasaki just fine, but I guess the dumb luck here exposes Sasaki in front of every Sonozaki family, but it still puts people there into danger, with Sasaki capturing Akiko and Mai with her cream. Shotaro henshins into W with Kirihiko realizing that the "Wakana stalker" is W, and both him and Saeko assumes their Dopant form to block W. Sasaki spits out Akiko and Mai, and reveals that she kidnaps the chefs to force them to work for her as her food business didn't last long and she hated being food critic. W escapes from both Dopants with RevolGarry and HardBoiler, and reaches Akiko's place, due to the tracker they place on Akiko. However Taboo Dopant starts attacking Nazca Dopant due to his failure to stop W, and later Wakana also suspects that W and Akiko may be more useful than Kirihiko. Akiko gets a badass moment here that proves herself as Sokichi's daughter (W seeing the projections of Sokichi in her) by smashing Sweets Dopant with a chair so hard that it breaks, dedicating herself to protect her clients. Well, she already got the dedication to take care of the clients from the beginning, but her detective skills should actually be improved, she does advance the case here, but it's by dumb luck (putting others into danger but letting others know about the attacker, the location of the kidnapped..) while not doing undercover job properly. W switches to HeatJoker, then uses Bat Shot with Luna Gaia Memory when Sweets Dopant hides by turning into cream, and finishes the fight with Joker Grenade, an elemental split body attack like Joker Extreme but with punches, though I'd say it doesn't flow as nicely as Joker Extreme. Afterwards, Akiko convinces Phillip try her sweets before, though at least she tried it herself, while Shotaro acknowledges Akiko's strength and that he's the one that needs to toughen up. |

Nazca Arc Episode 11-12: The Vengeful V V stands for Virus and Vehicle Written by: Keiichi Hasegawa, Directed by: Satoshi Morota /Infected Car On a rainy night a Chevrolet Blazer rams through a woman, leaving her bloodied, while in Narumi Detective Agency Akiko caught a cold, while claiming that Shotaro won't catch a cold as he's an idiot (albeit it's still tactless to sneeze in Shotaro's direction). Phillip however uses that as a new topic to learn, despite that idiot not catching a cold is an idiom. They got a call from a client, where after Shotaro arrive, the previous Blazer goes through the client... but it phases through him instead, albeit he's killed with the electrical trail the Blazer leaves him with with Shotaro all concerned over him and trying to wake him up. Poor Shotaro, despite him caring for the rammed client, he got accused as his killer by Makura, especially that there are no signs of his body being hit by a car, due to the Blazer being supernatural. Jinno comes and talks about how the client died from a virus, using a coroner's report. Akiko also comes to try bail out Shotaro which he denies as he's only witness, and Shotaro tells her that he still insists to take the case despite their client being dead, also makes a claim about the Blazer being crying. Akiko doesn't believe it, and checks out if Shotaro caught any disease, but of course what Shotaro said is the truth so it just sounds nonsensical thus he denies it and got called idiot. This scene has the most flipping reactions for Akiko regarding Shotaro between affection and annoyance, and while she complains for things she doesn't know, crying car should sound plausible as there's Dopants on this world. Kirihiko tries to get rid of Nezu, who sold the Virus Memory due to the remarkable development that happened within it, who tries to beg to be spared that it's an accident. Watcherman takes a shot with Akiko again for All Ladies, but she sneezes at the camera, albeit he still appreciates the shot. He then informs Shotaro that the killed client was named Mikio Aoki, and he was a part of an infamous gang. Shotaro and Akiko visits said gang, and tries to get information of the car and Aoki. Well, it's true that he refers to the car as "import car", as it's an USA-made Chevrolet within a Japanese media. However, Cross is in every way a violent thug, that he's... cross over this, attacking his underling for continuing Shotaro's question and pulling a gun on Shotaro, who Akiko pulls away. The gun display is censored on my TV, albeit the censoring isn't consistent. Said underlings however go on to check the black Blazer by their own knowing that they can't argue with Cross, but also plans to rip off any cars that look like it, and by this Shotaro follows after them while assigns Akiko to check out if Cross leaves. The Blazer appears and rams one of the thugs, while phasing through him. The supernatural stuff surrounding the Blazer is identified as a Dopant by Shotaro, while Phillip tells Shotaro talks about the results of his topic regarding idiots and flu, but also finds a new topic about idiots enjoying high places... unintentionally teasing Shotaro as he gets into the hood/roof of the Blazer... but it acted like usual physical car. He eventually henshins into W and deals with the Blazer, noticing somebody driving it, but is interrupted by Nazca Dopant again who views the Dopant as valuable sample, viewing the specal ability of the memory on the Blazer as big opportunity, and Nazca even was able to counter his Joker Extreme too. The Blazer later gets into the other thug as well and phases through him to kill him. Phillip explains to Shotaro about the driver he caught on the Blazer, which is Kouhei Yamamura, who had his older sister, the woman at the beginning of the episode, got rammed by said Blazer which belongs to Cross' gang, where afterwards Shotaro believes that Kohei becomes a Dopant himself and tajes revenge on the gang with the same car, which is apparently confirmed as Kouhei talks about how there's 1 left of the gang. Shotaro visits him to try to reason with him, using the argument that the sister wouldn't approve of the revenge. Shotaro's the type to reason with apparent evildoers if he can. Other than moral display seen in most main Riders, this is more fitting for him as he works in law department, who wouldn't resort into death penalty for any crimes. Phillip later would call him half-boiled again due to him deciding to save Cross despite that he's the menace of the city instead of Phillip's pragmatic view to let Kouhei take revenge, that Shotaro acknowledges that but does so due to him living in his city... then what about those who don't live in Fuuto then even if they're innocent? But overall still, being a criminal isn't justification for killing someone, at least not on its own, especially that Cross is a normal human, thus can be mitigated easier without a lethal force. Kouhei claims he won't understand, with flashbacks of his sister being rammed, and runs away. Kouhei bumps into his friend Noriyuki Yushima who blocks Shotaro from chasing him. Yushima introduces himself as an artist and art teacher, who is engaged to Kouhei's older sister, named Sachi. Shotaro then gets a call from Akiko who reports that she follows after Cross and ends up in a warehouse. So Akiko does get a small improvement here that she's cooperative to follow after Shotaro's instructions and not throwing her boss status around for orders. Cross waits for the Blazer to show up and he guns down the car. Later Cross resorts into begging for mercy and claiming that it's not his fault.. as W comes with HardBoilder to take on the car, try to reason again with Kouhei that they too lost an important person (Sokichi), but Kouhei resorts to take down W for blocking him. He fully succumbs into hatred and revenge, with victim mentality as well to only ask for acknowledgement and refusing to listen of someone else losing an important person to them. W causes some damage in the Blazer, losing one of its tyre, and then takes it on with RevolGarry, and notes that when the Dopant manifests in the car, it sets a virus to those the car rams. Using Heat Metal and red back half of HardBoilder, he blazes the Blazer with Metal Branding, setting the Blazer ablaze. But the protagonists notice that there's no Gaia Memory ejecting from Kouhei, which means he's not the Dopant. Before that, Akiko pulls the best slipper use yet, by smacking someone deserving with it, Cross, albeit he thanks W for saving him. /Grudge Beast The real Virus Dopant appears, and kills Cross with the virus. W defends himself with LunaMetal, but after the Dopant escapes, Shotaro notices that the Dopant is crying, like when he saw the Dopant in the Blazer. Akiko, who insists to keep working despite her condition despite Shotaro's protests, recounts the case, but a new info is given that Sachi is in coma and got hospitalized, along with Kouhei after the Blazer is destroyed. Shotaro assumes that the Virus Memory user is Yushima. Shotaro visits Yushima's place, who is teaching some girls art, before Virus Dopant appears separately from Yushima and wreaks havoc, which means Yushima's the Dopant's target instead. They're running out of potential suspects because the Yamamura siblings' parents died when they're young, thus no relatives to look after them, and they rule out acquaintances or coworkers. Akiko suspects Sachi's the Dopant user, which Shotaro points out that she's in coma, while Phillip compliments that as geninus. As they check out Sachi's body, indeed there's a Living Connector tattoo in her body, while Shotaro wonders how she's using the Gaia Memory while unconscious. In this new type of Gaia Memory, both Phillip and Kirihiko talks about how the Gaia Memory works by transforming their consciousness from intense rage and hatred, which Kirihiko finds as unique. Kirihiko then tells Saeko that from Nezu's information Sachi wears the Virus Memory before the Blazer hits her, where Virus Dopant left her comatose body and absorbs Kouhei's anger as well to take revenge, and apparently the Blazer the Dopant used was a different one, taken from a junkyard with a repaired body. Kirihiko has been planning to use and develop this data to make up for the disappointments to Saeko, but later it's revealed that it won't be enough as, this type of Dopant has a weakness too, the ones from mental energy will be weaker from transformed body, as Virus Memory should be able to kill entire city population, as opposed to just one at a time. Another question sparks for the protagonists, as Virus Dopant attacks Yushima too. Shotaro plans to track down Yushima to prevent anyone getting hurt by her and Phillip makes use of his ability that is unseen before (like Akiko said), to contact her consciousness as its state is altered by Gaia Memory. He succeeds, and meets Sachi in the Gaia Library, still retaining her injuries from the accident, and tells her that Shotaro's trying to save her, also asking why she's attacking Yushima. In this case, as Phillip said, the victims aren't the only ones Shotaro trying to save, but also Sachi herself, saving her from succumbing to her rage and despair. The answer regarding Yushima is given by Queen and Elizabeth that Yushima's in realty a scumbag who uses women for his art. Santa-chan who arrives while giving Shotaro cold medicines continues that Yushima also cons people into marrying him. Sachi also reveals that she saw Yushima proposing to another woman before she gets the Virus Memory, though she doubts getting revenge at first as it's pointless, after the accident her heart fully turns the Virus Memory into a monster. Phillip warns her that she's under the control of Gaia Memory. Yushima's rotten side is shown further that when Virus Dopant attacks him and a woman, he tosses the girl into the monster to escape, he's a coward and really doesn't treat women as people. Shotaro tries to end this by stopping Sachi's rampage as well as convincing Yushima to apologize, while Phillip explains Shotaro's aim to save her and not letting anyone got hurt, though it fails as Sachi gives in to her hatred, expelling Phillip. Still though, victim status like what Sachi went through doesn't give someone free pass to do anything they want, albeit this makes for a good twist that the victim's the one wreaking havoc this time. They have to resort into fighting the Dopant as W, ending the fight with HeatTrigger, using Trigger Explosion which is a flamethrower attack. Shotaro then uses count up your sins catchphrase against Yushima and punches him on Sachi's behalf. Still despite that Yushima gets off too easily from his atrocities, unlike the gang which were all killed. Sachi is still in coma, though Shotaro is optimistic that she'll wake up, but also catches a cold.... either proving he's not an idiot or that the idiom is wrong. And I suppose Phillip and Akiko were playing Old Maid like in ep. 4 right there. |

Nazca Arc Episode 13-14: The Radio Q Q stands for Queen and Question. Written by: Keiichi Hasegawa, Directed by: Hidenori Ishida /Targeted Princess Wakana comes across yet another stalker, who wants to immediately marry her by giving her a bouquet and claiming that he's more accomplished than Kirihiko, and obviously rejects him. Though this is a display on how Wakana's true personality is snobby, stuck-up, overall representing bad stereotype of the riches, the man wouldn't be innocent either for stalking and going instantly through marriage without properly building up relationships, and resorts to turn into Masquerade Dopant to attack her. Unfortunately for him, he's out of her league in superpower too, as Wakana is a Claydoll Dopant, an actually threatening one to Masquerade Dopant's merely mask change, and one shots him. In her radio show, as usual Wakan puts up a fake cheery persona as Healing Princess as she debuts her single Naturally, which both Shotaro and Phillip sings along with, being avid fans, while Phillip is also processing human attachment from that. The single is actually released in real life as well. Wakana then got a question call from "Mr. Question" about favorite number which is 7, but Wakana suspects him as another stalker, while keeping her true personality hidden by muting the recording, where "Mr. Question" gives her a present outside window, which is a view of a structure's collapse followed by Dopant attack. Being an avid fan, Shotaro acts as the shining knight to go save Wakana... really Wakana has good publicity if even the protagonists think she's just dainty damsel in distress, something Shotaro notes that a detective should act outside a case. Wakana is hounded by interviews regarding the caller and the destruction. Another radio show host, Saeki Motoko of Voice, intervenes to talk regarding similar case she got (the question), as Shotaro is revealed to be a casanova, trying to flirt with Wakana. Outside of the interviewers, Wakana shows her true colors again, to be abusive towards her manager Tsuyoshi Ageo due to his failure to keep paparazzi away, and openly shows disdain towards Shotaro, closing the sliding door of her Toyota Alphard without regard if Shotaro got hit by it. Shotaro copes about Wakana being actually scary, as Phillip identifies her caller as a Dopant, and due to not meeting her directly yet, still views Wakana as angel. The Sonozaki family discuss about the difficulties of Wakana's entertainment business and suggests to give her a role in Gaia Memory distribution, but despite her troubles Wakana rejects them and denies it, causing a fight between her and Saeko in their Dopant form, which apparently Saeko's Taboo being superior. Ryubee breaks their fight and tries to help within Wakana's problems, but she insists to take care of that. Jinno and Makura takes part in the radio station to prepare the trace for the call and Jinno giving an advice to Wakana to talk as long as she can, and is her fan as well to use this chance to capture her heart while also finding the culprit. Being in public scene, Wakana is pleasant to his help as well as to Ageo. Mr. Question calls again to ask regarding favorite color (red), and Shotaro uses his phone to relay Mr. Question's dialogue to Phillip. Shotaro then intervenes, despite the protests that it's live, to interact with Mr. Question, claiming that he should have combined that with the third and fourth questions, which was his plan. Mr. Question then cuts off the trace, and Wakana complains to Shotaro that he ruined their best chance, while Shotaro claims he does what Phillip asks him for, continuing their talk in front of her, informing the location Mr. Question heads next, Southern Wind Island Park. Shotaro finds Mr. Question, which is Violence Dopant blowing up the gas main, and Wakana has horrified expression watching this, a sign that she's not completely heartless despite being stuck-up. Shotaro and Phillip henshin to W, and finds Violence Dopant to be too tanky for close-range attacks like CycloneJoker's. They switch to CycloneTrigger, which works better, but Violence Dopant compresses his body into Violence Ball and sends W flying while he escapes. Motoko acts as a news reporter regarding that, claiming that many suggests Wakana's radio program should be put on hold. This'd be foreshadowing for something later. Wakana suddenly visits Narumi Detective Agency where the protagonists are listening to the news report, acting completely aggressive and tactless as a guest to demand Phillip in a shouting and threatening way. Of course, Phillip would flee into the secret base, but is caught on by Wakana. He decides to talk through the door. Wakana interrogates him regarding Phillip's ability to predict Mr. Question's location, which Phillip answers that the questions all came from an interview with her in Wind Life magazine, continued by her latest interest (aromatic candles) and where she goes when she has free time (Southern Wind Island Park). Phillip's interest of her turns mutual as Wakana too, starts to admire Phillip for his intelligence here, and acts pleasant to him while touching his hand, the lighting effects indicate something further regarding them. Phillip is even more enamoured with her, seeing her nature as mysterious and complex. This is relatable reaction, it's similar to audiences being fascinated with scumbag characters that can show soft side on occassion, deeming them as "multi-faceted and complex", likely due to variation of the things that can be done to various people and situation. Wakana continues her show by going on a restaurant toor, seemingly tolerating Shotaro far better due to him being (to his dismay) the 'assistant' of Phillip, the only person she values so far. Ageo claims to get stomach ache, which Shotaro is concerned for, but Wakana lets him go. The restaurants she visited are the ones previously seen in two parters before, first is Yuuko's pastry shop of ep. 3-4, which Shotaro notes that her demeanor changed to smiling after she stops gambling. They got a call from Mr. Question again, which Shotaro uses his phone to relay the dialogue to Phillip. The question is about favorite scenery, but Mr. Question claims no answer is needed to give her the scenery. Phillip directly talks with Wakana who informs him the answer is Fuuto Tower. By this Phillip concludes that Mr. Question will destroy Fuuto Convention Center that blocks her view from the Fuuto Tower. Shotaro heads out there as W, declecting Violence Dopant's flail with CycloneMetal, then uses HeatMetal. A little of Violence Dopant's character is shown, he claims he gotta show his feelings to Wakana, rationalizing his actions that there's always casualties in love. Well the term iirc usually means about those who has been dumped by a date, but the term is misused in dark way here to refer to literal bodycounts to show his feelings. RevolGarry arrives to protect W from Violence Ball. Wakana arrives as Claydoll Dopant to deal with the stalker, and due to Claydoll and W not recognizing their true identity, they fight too, but W got the same sensation when he catches Claydoll's punch like Wakana touching Phillip's hands, for obvious reasons they don't know yet. They actually talk here... so they apparently won't recognize their voices either, dunno if it's about voices being hard to memorize or mistake to keep their true identities secret. Violence Dopant then uses Violence Ball to attack Claydoll, apparently shattering her into pieces. /Live Catastrophe W is next for Violence Ball's target, but is repelled by RevolGarry, causing him to escape. RevolGarry is really the stronger asset for battle so far. Claydoll however reforms her body from the broken pieces, which Kirihiko understood as what Saeko meant that her blasts won't kill Wakana. The comment before to me kinda misleads into Saeko holding back and that it's just sibling squabble, but it actually refers to Claydoll's ability. Wakana's next destination is Mai's restaurant, of ep. 9-10. Mr. Question calls again while Shotaro relays the dialogue, but he doesn't give a hint this time. Phillip says Mr. Question had 2 mistakes, Fuuto Tower answer wasn't recorded and he comments that she wants to badly see the scenery, which means Mr. Question knows Wakana personally. Wakana visits Phillip again to ask him regarding the identity of the person who knows her personally, and Phillip still hides behind the door. Phillip's the one to ask first about Wakana being hunted by others, which she claims she feels it from her older sister, due to Ryubee tightly controlled Saeko's childhood but not Wakana's, thus Saeko bulles her to vent her childhood. Saeko's name means cold child and it's meaningful for her behavior there. The only saving grace for that is that, Wakana had another sibling, a younger brother, who calms her down when she tries to retaliate, making her "kind again". Phillip notes that there's kindness in her words just now and her true self is the kind little girl underneath, which means the bitchy persona is the fake act. Well she's acting that way solely to Phillip, the one that meets her standards (and the only one that claims she can be honest with), so would disagree for now, being nice to certain person is hugely different for being nice person overall. For shippers, this scene also actually hints that Phillip was the little brother in the flashback... so it'd be incest. Akiko left the secret base to save "missing" Wakana (who is actually heading there), and slaps Shotaro for that... but another physical gag happens with her also pulling his ear. But despite worrying about her, she's excited of her potentially getting a chance to fill in for Wakana, only for the role to be done by Motoko. The last destination is a ramen dessert shop, of which Watcherman being the one to eat. Phillip asks Wakana to provide him keywords, like if she's been asked for her favorite scenery, which happened when she auditioned for Healing Princess show. Phillip discovered the culprit and Wakana gets back to work, but promises him to meet face-to-face later. This'd further humanize Phillip as he learns about emotions like feeling here, growing out of his self-proclaimed 'little devil' persona. After explaining about the ramen dessert via Watcherman's experience, she got a call from Mr. Question again, but now she knows that the true identity is Ageo, which she directly mentions, surprising others. Ageo admits that his cover is blown and turns into Violent Dopant in front of them, taking Wakana in his Violent Ball mode. Phillip is searching about Wakana's book in Gaia Library, but refuses to read it. The scene is played as dirty mind-like, but I'd imagine for now, as Phillip is "search engine man", the book would be like public figure's article on Wikipedia. Shotaro invites Phillip to henshin as W and chase after Violent Dopant with HardBoilder, changing it into HardSplasher along the way. They caught up with the Dopant and frees Wakana with LunaTrigger's Spider Memory attack. W thinks Ageo hates her so much to take it out on her, likely for her abuse, but Ageo does love her, while the reason he does it is due to being forced by someone that'd make him a "real man". Due to Ageo being merely a pawn, albeit not innocent, there's a glimpse of Wakana running over towards the knocked down Violence Dopant, though W insists her to run away. Maybe she does become nicer, albeit slightly for non-Phillip. W continues his fight with Violence Ball with HardTubuler, and finishes him off with Trigger Stag Burst to pincer the Dopant that is bouncing around, but saves Ageo's body with Luna's stretching arms. However Phillip notices that Wakana knows Gaia Memory. Kirihiko looks up the purchaser of the Violence Memory, and claims Saeko actually cares about Wakana due to having him look for it, though she denies it. The real bad guy of the 2 parter is revealed, which is Motoko, someone who before suggests to put off Wakana's show in her news report, who relieves in Wakana's apparent suffering, but she's still alive (due to W) and confronts her about egging Ageo. Motoko is also utterly batshit insane, while revealing her motive that she's driven by pure jealousy that her radio show is more popular than hers.... even the guy who sold Motoko the Violence Memory had doubts about that due to how crazy Motoko is (she went apeshit directly in front of the guy), and she'd have no qualms to let a Dopant loose on the city in form of Ageo, who is a yandere himself to turn into a monster to make her like him. Wakana is put on similar situation as her childhood to Saeko, intending to retaliate by killing Motoko as Claydoll, but she remembers her little brother and Phillip's words, indicating that she's regaining some part of her childhood persona, and walks away. Predictably, Motoko would expose Wakana's true nature as a monster, but Kirihiko comes to give her a deserving final blow as it'll be a threat to Museum's secrets, which is why Saeko denies caring for Wakana before. Saeko notes Wakana being happy, which she thought to be her sticking to business, but on the contrary, it's due to her becoming true to herself, which is probably sticking to entertainment instead. Phillip questions her personally about having Gaia Memory, but she'd lie that she doesn't while reminding him of his promise, though it'd become a truth as she drops her Claydoll Memory which Ryubee took. Shotaro notes that Phillip is spacing out after this case, and gets to retaliate to Akiko.. by slapping her with her slipper when she doesn't leave him alone (but by being concerned about him.. which is insensitive in Shotaro's eyes). Akiko gains upper hand in the slipper fight though by blocking the next attack and disarming it back. But both scenes aren't censored on my TV that time! |
Saber, Episodes 34-40:
Genta finally gains his new sword, and it's not even fish-shaped, 0/10 terrible show. But yeah, the Solomon Arc. It's good. Not stellar or anything, but good. Master Logos has, at least, slightly more presence on screen than any of the non-Zooous Meggido, but his motivations are pretty lacklustre. I guess the show admits that to, since does a whole bit about it? He just wants to smash up the world because he's sick of it, and he thinks humanity will do it because he hangs around with Durandel and Falchion. Combine that with Storious just lurking around, waiting for his obvious chance to betray him (which, of course, he did), and the villains aren't exactly grabbing any awards. On the hero side, things are better. Buster and Slash exist to job, that is their role, and they should be happy doing it. I like what Kento's going through - the tortured hero act is purposefully a slightly-edgier repeat of his arc from the first time round (learn to open up to others, don't shoulder all the burden yourself, etc), but he did die at the end of that, so it makes sense the lesson may not have stuck. Also, quick question - did him sealing the Seiken do anything to stop the ritual? Because it seems like it didn't. Touma keeps gaining powerups, the buildup towards him having to be apart from his friends to become guardian of Wonder World might mean more if I thought the show would go through with it, but this isn't Gaim or Blade, there'll be a way round it, probably through the power of swords and/or friendship. But hey, it's character stakes to drive up the tension between him and the other Riders, I can still work with it. Xross Saber is cool, Brave Dragon in a more cohesive colour scheme is nice to see, and it reminds me of Wizard Infinity, which is nice. |
Kamen Rider W(atch)
Nazca Arc Episode 15-16: The F Afterglow F stands for Fang (Memory) and Fake Written by: Riku Sanjo, Directed by: Takayuki Shibasaki /Burglary Rider Shotaro and Akiko found Phillip who (over)worked himself in training to become a "mosquitoweight" class boxer, due to Wakana's topic being weight management in boxing. Shotaro warns Phillip that being a knowledge fiend isn't healthy (ironically, Shotaro calling a knowledge source an "idiot" before for this, and talking about health when Phillip is working out. Well yeah, knowledge doesn't guarantee ommon sense and you shouldn't go overboard in working out) as he insists Akiko to get water. She instead miisinterpret it as taking a bucket of water to splash them... when Shotaro meant a glass of water, and making him frustrated with the agency's lack of self-control. This'd be one of Akiko's gags that doesn't involve slippers. As Phillip rests on bed, they got another client, bank teller Fuyumi Aso, whose case is a surprising one to them, to find Kamen Rider due to.. him being a public threat, apparently robbing her bank. There's also a small moment of Fuyumi being concerned over Phillip. Shotaro also finds out from Jinno that the Kamen Rider had hit second bank. Shotaro denies that Kamen Rider would do this, which is taken by Jinno as Shotaro being biased for "his friend" Kamen Rider. I guess Jinno doesn't know yet for now that Shotaro is Kamen Rider W, like Kuuga to cops other than Ichijou at first. Shotaro makes it a personal problem for the Kamen Rider named to be smeared, more enraged than usual. They track down the impostor using Bat Shot, which is revealed to be a Dopant, Arms one. Reminds me of the Cockroach Dopant before, another case of the MOTW wanting to attain hero status, this time directly using "Kamen Rider" title. Shotaro and Phillip henshin into W while ridinig HardBoilder. At least they can still go into action with Phillip's current condition, Phillip being conscious is what's necessary for the henshin, as he pointed out, they wouldn't use his body, but not when Phillip is unconscious already. W chases down Arms Dopant, who does ride bike too, a Honda Valkyrie, keeping up with Start Dash HardBoilder, but loses him with the Dopant causing an explosion with his blasts, but finds a metal that can be a clue. Continuing from that Akiko reports to Fuyumi in a rock climbing that the culprit is found. But actually, there's something fishy regarding Fuyumi's story that Akiko, along with Shotaro also want to confront. I guess Akiko isn't as skilled as Fuyumi yet in rock climbing that she got herself dangled in hasty descent. Fuyumi reveals that she's lying, she's a Twin Rose member, a cat burglar team (explains why she does rock climbing), with Kenji Kurata is her partner. Despite her evil laugh before, it's not about the fully secretly evil reveal like Marina or Motoko before, they had limits before to not spill blood, and her concern is about Kurata turning into Arms Dopant and doing something messed up, and she wants to stop him. It's revealed that Akiko has objections to help a fugitive, but Shotaro accepts it due to client's varying circumstances (and due to him being real Kamen Rider) with the condition that those 2 have to turn themselves afterwards. Shotaro got called half-boiled again for this, but this shows that he'd only act casanova to woman he truly fancies instead of any of them. Shotaro rushes Phillip in the case, and it's revealed that he's angered so much is due to, the Kamen Rider name was given to them by the city's people. Akiko is being helpful again at trivial thing, giving Phillip the last needed keyword that the metal Arms Dopant left was apple-shaped locker keychain, which leads him to reveal that Kurata is active in the Sherwood Building. And Akiko knows it that she's the "queen of inspiration", Shotaro's problem this time to not acknowledge her. His emotions got the better of him here to immediately confront him as Phillip warns him they didn't fully learn about Kurata yet, which Shotaro claims they're the only Kamen Riders and they can learn more at the place. At Sherwood building, Arms Dopant arrives, revealing himself as Kurata. Fuyumi begs him to come back to his senses, but this is a show of how much a power can corrupt (not supernaturally) that Kurata is addicted into using the Arms Memory. A reminder of how power can erode one's (already fugitive, as even the good-natured one can get a hold of this) empathy, less risk-aware, and cause more impulsive behaviour. Not only the gun before, Arms Dopant can morph his arms into variety of weapons, this time, a Shield Sword, which W also arms himself with HeatMetal. W gains an upper hand with RevolGarry, and continuing the beatdown with other Heat forms. It's revealed that Arms Dopant is an underling of Saeko, who she calls to not play along. Arms Dopant commences his true plan to surround W with Masquerade Dopants while holding Akiko and Fuyumi hostage, exploiting the Riders' competency to his advantage to predict their next moves, including canceling their change into LunaJoker as W tries to make it seem that they de-henshin on Arms Dopant's orders. RevolGarry aiding W is Arms Dopant's advantage as well, as their true target is Phillip. Wakana is lost in thoughts about Phillip and that lost her a chess game against Ryubee, but heads to work. Ryubee thinks lowly of Wakana as immature and self-absorbed while placing his trust to Saeko (finally with her hair fully down). Saeko bullied Wakana for her freedom, thinking that she's the favored one, but it's unsure if Saeko is truly the unfavored one for this, with how Ryubee speaks regarding Wakana here. Kirihiko's position is further put into jeopardy as Saeko notices he's missing at times, accusing him as sabotaging them, while Saeko warns Arms Dopant in her call. A new revelation happens after all of that where, Phillip's true name as Saeko refers to him is Raito, and that her aim is to bring back Phillip to Sonozaki family, using Arms Dopant and the army of Masquerade Dopants for that. Phillip's twist actually happened a lot faster than I expect. /Reclaim Your Partner Saeko declares that Phillip/Raito is a chosen one that those who have him will have the world in their grasp, which is in line with the Museum inhabitant's aim, thus Saeko forces him to return. Phillip rejects being treated like a property, and views Saeko as a threat due to her expression. A skill at deducing others' expression I guess. Saeko resorts to erase his memories again, changing into Taboo Dopant, bringing back memories to him regarding Sokichi's death and W's origin. On his way for escape Phillip encounters Fang Memory, a sentient gimmick, whose temptation he rejected. He escapes using RevolGarry, leaving the captured Akiko and Shotaro behind, the former who criticizes him leaving them as heartless (with her catchphrase to not hear about that) though Shotaro claims it's fine. However Shotaro got KOed by Arms Dopant. Fuyumi tries to get Kurata back to his senses, keeping their limits as thieves, while being drunk with power, like Phillip before, Kurata instead tempts Fuyumi to also get a hold of Gaia Memory power, before shoving her away. Probably also due to Shotaro tolerating Phillip's choice here, Akiko calls out to him when Kurata lets her talk to him, while Phillip was concerned for her, really that his move here is due to him being utterly cornered and not having much choice, but the talk is only temporary with Kurata inviting him to an abandoned factory for his twisted game. Shotaro can be hotheaded, but he owes up here that he admits he got them into trouble here, also tolerates Phillip's choice due to this, even encouraging him to stay as far as possible from them. At Narumi Detective Agency, the Fang Memory appears again which Phillip tries to keep it away, but accidentally hits Makura while throwing stuff. He comes along with Watcherman and Santa-chan to look for Shotaro, while also searching for one of Twin Rose in the office from the tip they got (though Santa-chan wants to give gifts again), which spurs Phillip to act. Shotaro explains to the despondent Akiko regarding Fang Memory being 7th W Memory, as their hope to save them, albeit Phillip won't use them based on Sokichi death moment and that it can make Phillip, and by extension W, go berserk. Fuyumi is on the run from the cops, but Phillip takes her to get information regarding Kurata. Twin Rose had full honor among thieves, that despite Kurata's change, Fuyumi still had faith in him, to get him back, despite it being irrational, with no reason other than she genuinely sees him as partner, and this inspires Phillip with his own partnership to Shotaro. This shows that you can learn from anyone, but doesn't mean those that can be used as lesson are necessarily good people either. The twisted game in the factory is about Shotaro being hanged above numerous spikes, while Akiko is freed, but she had to hold Shotaro with a rope to prevent him falling to the spikes. This is a great moment of her to desperately keeping Shotaro alive, even getting her hands bloodied, which is also acknowledged by the Arms Dopant. This doesn't last forever though, albeit Shotaro assures her that it's ok that he bids her farewell, likely still blaming himself for putting them in this situation. But Shotaro is saved.. by the sentient Fang Memory, while Phillip also arrives. The inspiration he took from Fuyumi.. and Shotaro, was about actiong irrationally for once, forgoing planning, by using Fang Memory to henshin into W's mid-season upgrade, FangJoker, despite Shotaro's protests. Yeah, sometimes too much planning can also hinder for taking too long to take action. FangJoker is colored black and white, and this time, Shotaro turns unconscious, being the one that have his consciousness transferred to Phillip, due to Fang Memory being designed for Phillip as Saeko noted. FangJoker fights through a horde of Masquerade Dopants, with Fang's power being creating bladed weapons in the right body. But FangJoker is a form that can go berserk to the point of almost attacking Akiko while Arms Dopant holds her hostage, as Saeko noted, to protect Phillip/Raito at all costs, while Shotaro tries to restrain the volatile form with the Joker half. Props to W's suit actor Seiji Takaiwa to convey the 2-in-1, like making the Fang half of the body more aggressive compared to the Joker half. Shotaro notes that this is Phillip's fear of using Fang, Phillip would still have standard decency despite can be pragmatic due to his logical approach, and tries to stop this by finding Phillip in the burning Gaia Library. After he does, the Gaia Library is restored to normal and they can fight properly, getting Akiko out of their way. Arms Dopant shows signs of cowardice by running away from this, but the blades created by Fang also can be retracted as boomerang-like weapon, so it covers range part as well like Trigger. FangJoker finishes the fight with his Maximum Drive, the attack name directly said in the series Fang Strizer, which is a spinning kick with a blade on his leg and a projection of Fang Memory's head (that can be used as force field as well). I'd say the finisher is better than the likes of Metal Branding or Trigger Full Burst, albeit still don't live up to my expectations (expectation set when watching a video of Climax Heroes' finishers). Kurata then got arrested along with Fuyumi as per the promise, but like usual, sometimes W just leave the fates of the guest stars offscreen via Shotaro's film noir monologues like this one, without showing much about what Kurata reacts to her other than muttering her name, or losing his power. The role is reversed between Saeko and Wakana that now, the former's the one being happy while the latter's spacing out, with Saeko planning to get Phillip/Raito back. Well this'd probably make Wakana happy too, or probably less if she found out the nature of their relation. Saeko then spends her time watching over the factory inside her Ferrari 360 Modena, explaining about Fang Memory and Phillip/Raito. Saeko then escapes, while FangJoker experiences another drawback, the form being only able to be used for short time due to the burden it puts on Phillip. Shotaro is more impatient for not being in control to order Akiko to take his still binded body which he frees himself, but also insists for her to not tear his clothes. Shotaro takes over again by their henshin into CycloneJoker to chase Saeko with HardBoilder, bursting out of her exploding 360 Modena (really rich..) to assume her Taboo Dopant form. W clashes energy blasts with her in LunaTrigger's Trigger Full Burst, but Kirihiko has mastered his Nazca Dopant's super speed, saving her, while the destruction they cause almost dooms a child which W saves with HeatMetal, but luckily he did it in front of the cops including Jinno, allowing them to restore their names, while W refers to Jinno by name to inform him about the impostor Kurata's location, though Jinno takes it the wrong way to think he's famous... W speaks here, so people here have harder time recognizing voices? Phillip continues regarding weight management... but by overeating rice cakes, turning him obese, to Shotaro's utter frustration that he can be really lunatic. |
Just watched another set of episodes of Kamen Rider Kuuga. Only six episodes to go and this will be the very first Kamen Rider series I managed to watch all the way through. I’m considering checking out Agito afterwards.
|
That's a fairly good one to start with IMO! I have just finished BLACK RX and so have completed every main TV show from 1987-2009, being as I didn't complete W,Ghost or now Saber.

See: -Kenzan's sword getting unsealed as it flew towards the sword tree -Touma saving Rintarou from Zooous which allows the latter to turn the great book into Tategami, which makes it easier for Master Logos to steal it -Touma obtaining Elemental Dragon also allowed him to summon Luna, accelerating the ritual as well. |
Not sure if counts but I also ended up starting to watch Kamen Rider Dragon Knight on YouTube which is the US equivalent of Kamen Rider Ryuki and it seems pretty interesting so far.
|
It's called Kamen Rider, right?

Rewatching Wizard, OOO, and drive simultanously since i kind miss episodic season with lots of MOTW and damsel of the weeks. For some reason they feels more heroic than the season where the riders bickering each other or keep fight the same enemy and make the motw less crucial.
Ofc i love the long arch rider too, i might just feels exausted from Saber |

So far it feels as though it's almost like another Drive situation, where I found the underlying plot concerning the secondary and tertiary is more interesting than the main plot.

Alain's arc is definitely one of the best; pretty much everyone even including people who don't like Ghost seem to agree it's great! I really love this bit of the season where they used an obscure function of the toy - the Necrom Eyecon in the Ghost Driver - to do something screwed up like this. It's not something that happens an awful lot in Rider but it's almost always great when it does

"Oh, Alain's great!" "Alain and the takoyaki is his arc!" "Alain gets a training arc!" Plus I think I think he's got the better base form. On design surface alone, though. The way his glossy hoodie wrinkles is kinda odd lmao Also he and Espada can shake hands for using guitar in their jingles. |
While I do like Necrom a lot as a Base Rider Form, I think out of all of them I prefer Base Specter as my favorite base form. It takes what I already like about Ghost, puts it in one of my favorite colors and does little design touches to make me love it a lot.
|
I guess we're going three for three here, because Ghost is my favourite of the three and one of my favourite main rider designs in general! It's a perfectly rounded design imo
|
Started watching V3. Loving it, adoring it, but it's slightly marred by the fact that its monster theme is animals mixed with manmade objects. Which is a good, fun theme! It's just unfortunately I uh, I've seen Dynaman which completely mastered that with guys like Word Processor Armadillo so anything after that is downhill

Oh right this was the promotional episode between Ghost and Zyuohger when the Ichigo 2016 Movie was coming out.
It continued the tradition of having some sort of team up between the two SHT shows that year though downplayed from the prior two Combination Specials, this time it just having the Rider/Sentai lead insert into the A/B Plot of the episode they were cameoing in. That wouldn't last though since with the last one for Ex-Aid/Kyuranger and Chou Super Hero Taisen, it was just minor cameos during fights. |
On my rewatch I really had to laugh at this episode because. Because they actually tie Zyuoh Eagle into Takeru's very significant decision to start trusting and working with Alain??? He was getting there anyway and it would have worked just as fine without it, but when they straight up have him say "Yeah I can trust him, I barely know Zyuoh Eagle and I worked well with him" it's just so funny. Have to love Tokusatsu sometimes.
Oh, and it leads into what is now one of my favourite movies ever; so just a win all around! |

Don't forget this one!
https://i.imgur.com/2Eh4xIW.jpg I really wonder exactly how long Sakamoto's been using that same shot of three people in a line. It'd be hilarious to find out he's been doing this since his Power Rangers days or something. |
Tfw the director said he wants to do a Thouser V-Cinema

I finished Kamen Rider Kuuga a few days ago and it is indeed pretty good despite a few issues. I really liked Yusuke as the show’s main protagonist and Rider as well as its supporting cast. Hell, I didn’t even mind the slow pace during its first several episodes because of said cast and never once it felt boring or was going through the motions. I also seriously love its opening theme song. I’m considering checking out Agito next and then Ryuki onwards.

Apart from usual occassional cancellation, W's schedule on the TV station is further reduced in favor of the re-aired Ex-Aid, slowing down the story more, and it's been a while since I got into the latest part of the airing in these 2 parters below, the last pair of episodes for Nazca Arc, before moving on to Weather Arc.
Kamen Rider W(atch) Nazca Arc Episode 17-18: Farewell, N! N stands for Nazca and Nemesis Written by: Keiichi Hasegawa, Directed by: Satoshi Morota /Memory Kids It's shown that to refresh himself, Shotaro regularly goes to Barber Kaze for a shave and hot towel in face, with Shotaro even knowing Kaze personally. He talks with another customer who apparently also loves Fuuto including praising the barber, and designs the town mascot Fuuto-Kun. Of course, said customer is actually Kirihiko, being another one who loves Fuuto, but the talk continues due to their faces being covered by the towels, until those come off from their face. All of the talk immediately ended in an instant (with Kaze being aware to send them outside), continuing their feud as usual. Kirihiko explains about himself being the distributor of Gaia Memory which he sees as a path for human evolution, which as Shotaro pointed out, he's doing the opposite of Fuuto love with making the city cry instead for distributing evil tool. Both henshin into their respective Rider and Dopant forms, with W finding another difficulty of Fang Memory moving on its own, and Akiko with Phillip failing to find it, resorting to CycloneJoker, then CycloneMetal, and HeatMetal, of which they can't put down the significantly stronger than usual Nazca, especially when it utilizes super speed. Nazca also still proclaims his love of Fuuto, not listening to W's protest about him actually making the city cry; he's deluded to consider his actions. As Wakana departs for work, Ryubee gives her back the Claydoll Memory. To me, Wakana here seems to feign being enthusiastic about the returned Claydoll Memory, a sign of her probably wanting to cut ties from the family, but is still too scared to do so for now, along with the Memory meant as a bond of the family. Saeko reports that Phillip/Raito still have not returned, but there's advantage that Kirihiko masters level 2 of Nazca (super speed). Kaze's true intention is to hire Shotaro for a case of his missing daughter Akane Egusa, who in flashback, shown to know Shotaro as well. Shotaro thinks it's normal due to kids typically wanting to run away from home at her age and she'll come back naturally. Well that's optimistic, but a bit of generalizing, with Kaze reminding Shotaro about Akane's difference; not detailed how but Shotaro remembers and agrees to take the case. Shotaro returns to Narumi Detective Agency, only to find the office being messy af due to Phillip's idea looking for Fang Memory. Shotaro reports that he got a case, and Akiko would prioritize work over Fang Memory... distracting him by turning on Wakana's radio show as she and Shotaro leave for work... albeit it'd be coincidental that the topic of her show is about bird-man. Shotaro and later Akiko interrupts Queen and Elizabeth's photo session to get an information from them that Akane's hanging out with her friends, which is made up as suspicious for 15 year olds, and finally made Shotaro realize that he doesn't really get kids nowadays. When they meet Akane, who's with Yayoi Kubota, Akane doesn't laugh anymore at Shotaro and Akiko's pranks, and has other attitude problem like refusing to go home, giving me Yuuko vibes from ep. 3-4. The youth problem is shown to Shotaro here with those 2's friend Touma Fujikawa revealing a Bird Memory, and possessing rebellious spirit to seek freedom of having fun and cut down meddling adults such as detectives. In the opposite of usual joke, Akiko is somehow called... old lady here by Touma. Touma hands the Bird Memory to another friend, Yuichi Kanamura, to become Bird Dopant who pulls Shotaro high up to the air, albeit he saves himself by henshin into W, surprising with Phillip's unconscious body dropping the cage that he used to catch a kabuto beetle.. setting it free again. W uses LunaJoker to capture the flying Dopant, and then LunaMetal. Yuichi claims to surrender, but hands the Bird Memory to Touma, who, to both W and Kirihiko's surprise can also change into Bird Dopant, despite that normally it's impossible for a Memory to be used by multiple people; another new revelation. Relevation comes again with Yuichi suffering painful side effects on the area he plugged the Gaia Memory (without Living Connector), not holding back to show the skin outright melted. Kirihiko reveals to Saeko that he wants to use Gaia Memory to evolve humanity into ideal life-form. So Kirihiko does genuinely have good intentions, but he still uses the wrong means to achieve it, a well-intentioned extremist, along that he'd agree to sacrifice corrupt adults to achieve it, but he has limits on his atrocity to not involve kids while Saeko looked up for it. Yuichi is hospitalized, but a nurse reports that he'd be fine. Not only Yayoi, but Akiko is relieved as well and consoles her, another showing of her dedication to the job and clients - those who are related to them too. Shotaro digs their story more as Yayoi explains that they're interested to become superhumans, enjoying to fly through the city as Bird Dopant, but, if even adults can get drunk with power like Kurata before, like what Queen and Elizabeth speculates, youth is even more suspicious to this, with Touma using Bird Memory to attack people and treat it like a game (that's outright Grongi thing, monsters who are all cruelty), despite Akane's objection, with Yayoi telling those 2 about his next location to attack, which is in the ramen stall Jinno and Makura eats while discussing about ace cop transferring, a foreshadowing of an important character. As someone who objects to Touma's idea, Akane has been warning others about Touma's attack, which happens soon after. Now I don't understand about Akane's standoffish behavior earlier, or that she is a slight prick but has standards, or the side effects she suffered later. Shotaro also comes, and had an awesome moment of flip-kicking the Bird Dopant away as the Dopant charges towards him. Phillip actually comes too with RevolGarry, and tests a theory regarding Fang Memory that it'll come through him when he's in danger, which is proven true, and finally they can henshin to W FangJoker, with Akiko somehow forgetting that it's Phillip who turns into W, to Shotaro's anger that she let his body fall. FangJoker beats Bird Dopant with Fang Strizer with Touma also getting the side effects, but yet another revelation, the Bird Memory doesn't break. I'd like it better if FangJoker deals with the flying by his boomerang ability. Kirihiko comes and W calls him out for selling underages Gaia Memories, but Kirihiko denies that as there are no records of underages buying Gaia Memories, with him waiting for Saeko's investigation to explain as W and Nazca fights again. /The Friend with the Wind The Fang properties to protect Phillip is a good advantage in the fight as well, that it can deal with Nazca's super speed, due to moving W's body on their own when there's attack, giving him automated response to super speed. Nazca's body breaks down anyway while W tries to finish him off. But it'd be better to try convincing Nazca, given there's a hint of redemption (and reminded by Fuuto-Kun poster), by appealing to his love of Fuuto, convincing him to not make childrens cry again. On the way to treat Touma, Phillip and the audience catches a glimpse of Living Connector on Akane's body, which later he confirms her ownership of the Bird Memory. Looking into the locations Touma attacked, Phillip found a clue that all the locations have the parents of Akane's rival in track and field. That'd mean he's doing what he did for his friend's sake, but doesn't mean it's noble trait if it involves innocents. This'd be a bad consequence of genuine friendship (corrupted further with power), non-friends are also people too. Akane got the Bird Memory due to being depressed, with the one handing it to her being a female.. confirming that it wasn't Kirihiko who sold it. It's shown too that even as human, Gaia Memory users would receive some buff in physical stats, improving her track and field capabilities. Akane apologizes for showing the Bird Memory to Touma and causing the chaos to happen, but Shotaro would show more tolerance to the kids, by blaming the ones who gave her the Bird Memory utilizing youth's cluelessness with Akiko consoling her as well, then pitying her as she sleeps in the bed (with her boots taken off, good as usual for Japan media). Kirihiko comes across a secret doorway which Saeko gets out, and enters it, discovering underground cave system beneath the Sonozaki Mansion. Ryubee appears to explain about the place, where the first set of Gaia Memories was discovered there and it operates as experimentation place. It's confirmed too that, the family purposely bend the rule to get children using Gaia Memory, due to getting more comprehensive data, giving accelerated evolution. Ryubee would give no regards to those children's death for achieving Museum's goals. Ryubee has lower moral standard than Kirihiko, who would be ok doing that to adults but not tolerate children, and his coinscience defies Ryubee here, but it's a reckless action, despite that Ryubee still explains the way to save Akane, due to another truth that, Kirihiko was a pawn to the Museum as well to peel the secrets of Nazca, that while he reached level 2 in Nazca, it's his limit and he'll die soon, and him changing to the Dopant here shortens his lifespan further. Kirihiko flees, but Ryubee assigns Mick to end him. Nazca is saved by Wakana as Claydoll Dopant. Despite the new truth Kirihiko gains, and the next question he asks to her, he's actually aware to Wakana's behavior that he thought she hated him before, but is now gone due to Wakana showing concern to him after saving him. I guess her behavior change isn't fully restricted to only Phillip then. Kirihiko gains an inspiration from Wakana by his question to know what she would do if she got betrayed by someone she had faith, which is to know what her true self wants, and for Kirihiko, it's to take care of Fuuto, thus he decides to help W, before bidding farewell to her and tell her that he loves her radio show, keeping all of his potential demise secret from Wakana (though she'd probably find it later in newspaper). I'd think that either Kirihiko's redemption is the usual rushed type to only take some inspiring speech/tips from others, or that Kirihiko isn't really redeemed - he'd still agree on his philosophies like sacrificing some people like corrupt adults, albeit not supporting Museum and Gaia Memories anymore, but he'd also do something that benefits Fuuto if the option is available to him. However when Akane wakes up, she's acting strange, slapping Phillip and pushing Akiko, while demanding Bird Memory and escapes. Though Akane's the owner, she still suffers the side effects which gives her something akin to drug addiction even when her friends presumably use it quantitatively more than herself, and later, the Bird Memory can potentially kill her as well. Phillip however attaches a tracker in her and inform Shotaro. On her way Akane meets the woman who gave her the Bird Memory, which is Saeko. When Shotaro meets Akane again, she had retrained her Bird Memory which she uses to turn into Bird Dopant and satisfy her flying desires. Shotaro laments about the worsening situation and henshins into W. W uses Hardturbuler from RevolGarry to fight the flying Bird Dopant, then continues with CycloneTrigger to shoot off Bird Dopant and her fireballs. Kirihiko as Nazca comes to assist W, for once doing what W hoped for Fuuto lover to do, by using Ryubee's information to save Akane, using his Driver to locate the Bird Driver, which W uses Bat Shot in the TriggerMagnum to perform Trigger Bat Shooting which is a wind blast that is made sure to be accurate with Bat Shot's targeting. I guess LunaTrigger's homing properties isn't 100% reliable for this situation. Akane feels better then returns to Kaze with Touma and Yuichi waking up. Kirihiko warns Shotaro about Museum's secrets while handing him the Fuuto-Kun keychain as he departs. Kirihiko begs for Saeko to leave Sonozaki family with him. Kirihiko is fully nonchalant throughout his last moments yeah, but I don't know if Kirihiko somehow can see the possibility of Saeko following him while he feels Wakana hates him before. Sure before ep. 13-14 Wakana had nasty traits, but Saeko had even more so and openly shows disdain to him for his 'failures' which he tries to make up, or he's making one final chance even if he knows that he won't get it, but it's worth trying (he started his plead with "if you love me"). Not to mention, Saeko was the one doing something Kirihiko disapproves of giving Gaia Memory to children. Saeko promptly turns into Taboo Dopant to shoot Kirihiko dead, showing how unpredictably ruthless she is, not even to her family that she had her own ambitions. Kirihiko is still nonchalant, enjoying Fuuto's winds... the opposite of the ace cop Jinno and Makura talked about before, who is Ryu Terui, making his first debut, declaring his hate for Fuuto instead for the nasty winds. |

Kamen Rider W(atch)
Weather Arc Episode 19-20: The I Doesn't Stop I refers to Iceage (Dopant), Investigation and Intensity. Written by: Riku Sanjo, Directed by: Hidenori Ishida /That Guy's Name Is Accel Shotaro is yet again trying to become hard-boiled, this time by playing billiard below the Narumi Detective Agency office, which he likens the gameplay of predicting ball's direction and hunting them one-by-one into detective work. But with the usual half-boiled gag, though I'd feel this is flanderization or escalation, Shotaro failed so much in a mere basics of billiard, with him slipping the cue stick away. Terui arrives at the place, and he's not called ace cop by Jinno and Makura for nothing... he's able to sink all the balls in a single break, surprising Shotaro (anyone would be likely as surprised too...) as the feat is hard-boiled as hell. Terui (with Shotaro finding this out as well) introduces himself as a police detective to Akiko, asking for a case to find culprit behind assaults that left the victim frozen. The hard-boiled stuff is the most sensitive topic to Shotaro.. so much that he succumbs to negativity here, to irrationally and pettily kicking Terui (someone hard-boiled) out due to refusing to play second-fiddle to authorities. But of course, Akiko's the chief and therefore she's the one to decide (along with dragging Shotaro who Terui asks to 'borrow'), especially after Terui pays and that she views Terui much more highly than Shotaro, expressing an interest in him, along with Phillip deciding to look up what bothers him about Terui. Much character shilling for Terui here, though personally I don't fully agree with the shilling with him considered much cooler than Shotaro right away by style or appearence; I mean Terui did have inhuman skills at billiard, but only Shotaro saw that. As Shotaro and Terui arrive at the crime scene, they find a frozen apartment room, belonging to the attacked Shinya Ikeda. Shotaro finds out again about Terui being the one in charge, and Terui shilling continues from Jinno (who hypes him up as someone to establish Special Crimes Unit) and Makura (who had Terui as role model). Terui finds a blue chrysanthemum as a clue, and while Shotaro seemingly has put his irrational dislike of Terui away to cooperate with the clue, it's Terui's turn to be hostile to him, in greater extent than Shotaro before, showing great aggressiveness and confrontation to him while pushing him to wall, refusing to hear his questions. Ryubee and Saeko are talking about the freeze from Dopant's attack as well, while introducing Wakana to the basement of the museum, trying to get her into official Museum work. Shotaro and Terui finds the Iceage Dopant who is targeting Ikeda again, who survives but is in bad condition. Terui is revealed to have a sword named Engine Blade, which is so heavy Terui had difficulty lifting it and it damages the asphalt, walls, and cars when hit. Terui orders Shotaro to henshin into Kamen Rider, much to his surprise that he knows, and has everything figured out. A bit of delay with Phillip focusing on his new topic for a while, showing again the difficulty of 2-in-1 Rider. As Iceage uses, well, ice, W uses HeatJoker to deal with the ice attacks. Iceage escapes, with Terui vehemently pursuing it, and catches a glimpse of a woman running off with a blue flower left behind, and Terui is revealed to know Phillip as well, telling Shotaro to give the keywords to him. They go to the secret base in the office, finding Phillip going into another one of his hijinks, wearing St. Bernard costume due to following Wakana's radio show. Shotaro finally had enough and forbids Phillip listening to Healing Princess. This gives a forceful parent to a child vibe in Shotaro and Phillip where parents can forbid kids to follow their interests (e.g. playing games) due to it being 'distractions'. It ironically also reveals Phillip's more 'human' side having his own hobbies and interests too, which is inherent in humans and can't be just taken away like Shotaro or those figures want them too - it can cause problems but the interest can be directed into positive path while still being kept. Terui reveals more of himself that the mechanical kabuto Phillip caught before was his gadget to spy on the protagonist trio. He also reveals an Accel Memory, as he wants to become Kamen Rider too, taking over W as they don't have what it takes, to the displeasure of Shotaro and Phillip of his behavior. This'd just be self-centered and detrimental to force only 1 'hero' fighting in the city, as Kamen Riders aren't omnipresent. To prove W, Terui tests Phillip to help with their case, and with additional clues from Terui, Phillip identifies the flower shop Cornflower Blue, while Akiko reveals the owner as Katahira Makiko (Akiko with M added ~), the woman who run from the crime scene earlier. Terui acknowledges W's capabilities, but same as previously in what Akiko and Wakana sees, Terui sees Phillip as the useful one. At the flower shop, Makiko's son tell the detectives that Makiko hangs out at Fuuto Park regularly, albeit is defensive to his mom due to her infamy due to her negative traits. As they reach the Fuuto Park, Terui catches a glimpse of a woman with a hat, sunglasses, and mask (..!), where it's shown that Terui's true purpose is going after her, leaving Shotaro and Akiko to find Makiko. Terui identifies that woman as Shroud, who gives him the AccelDriver in a metal suitcase surrounded by a ring of fire. They really should've named it AccelRider instead, it contains bike's handlebar and not steering wheel! ;) It's implied that Shroud 'worked' for Terui, this time to make him a Kamen Rider as he claims Shroud has finished my Driver. Akiko, as normal person would do in theme parks, won't waste this moment by actually enjoying the rides in the park, to Shotaro's dismay. But turns out that, having fun doesn't mean that you'd fail, as Akiko's the one to find Makiko, who is also.. riding a merry-go-round. That'd mean Shotaro's too serious either being confused of grown-up riding it or not approving Akiko having fun. Shotaro and Akiko approaches her, who tells them that she used to ride merry-go-round with her son. But as Shotaro questions her about the frozen victim, Makiko realizes that they're cops, and reveals her true cold and icy persona, ignoring them and leaving. Shotaro warns her that he'd make her pay if she makes the city cry, but she pushes Akiko to Shotaro to run, and both are confronted by Iceage again, which Shotaro thinks Makiko's the Dopant. Shotaro henshins into W HeatJoker right away, but Iceage is strong enough to freeze Heat, which means HeatJoker won't be advantageous enough. Terui comes, and it's his debut in TV show (as his real debut was in Movie War, the first of secondaries) as Kamen Rider Accel, a bulky red Rider with engine properties in his stomach, using Engine Blade as his weapon. Accel can also rev the AccelDriver to release a fire from his body, freeing him from Iceage's freezing. Accel also can use Engine Memory in Engine Blade, turning it into flaming blade, which is based on one of the three engine types, representing jet type here (the other ones being steam and electriic). That'd mean Accel is stronger than HeatJoker, at least in their fire abilities (with W also shilling Accel's combat and Akiko throwing her catchphrase). As Iceage escapes, Accel shows another one of his ability, turning into a literal motorcycle in his BikeForm to chase Iceage down. After he catches up (and in reverse, Iceage releases a steam from its body to extinguish the flames on her like Accel before), Accel ends the fight with his Maximum Drive, Accel Glanzer, a spinning kick like Fang Strizer, but with skid-mark like trail. Accel was engulfed in flame before the kick, but it's not used at all in the attack...it suddenly disappears after he jumps. They then note that the defeated Iceage was a decoy created by Makiko, who escapes while carrying a Gaia Memory, as there are no Gaia Memory after Accel destroyed it. Accel chases her, and as she's cornered, Accel still tries to attack her, which W tries to stop, like usual to not give excessive beatdown to an already powerless threat. W now sees what it means to be hard-boiled in Accel... /Kamen Rider Style Accel is relentlessly brutal in trying to take down Makiko, the supposed Dopant, in her human form due to her taking everything away from him as W Memory owner, even rejecting and berating W for trying to reason with him, as per his usual refusal to questions - that'd be very dangerous mentality to have which this episode does explore. After he de-henshins, Shotaro calls out Accel (still in Rider form) for not following the values expected from Kamen Rider, which is to hate the criminal act, not the criminal itself - which means not killing someone after they no longer pose a threat. As expected in a hardass (-boiled?) and brutal character, for upholding moral and humanity values other than simply destroying enemies, Accel berates Shotaro as naive and attacks. Even Akiko, who shills Accel before, now instead jumps in Shotaro's defense, and Accel de-henshins, but declares his hatred against Fuuto again, claiming that the city and people there are rotten. If Terui refers to 'rotten' here as in people who object to him, including condemning non-toxic flaw like being "naive", then he'd possess self-righteous views, "with us or against us" mentality. Later Akiko too, laments that the 'cool, sharp, and capable' Terui have really violent side, reminding that in that kind of person, negative traits aren't the part of their coolness (e.g. "chad") and can't be played up as admirable like Terui's brutality, despite some audiences doing so. Phillip suspects personal connection between the freezing attacks and Terui, while describing hard-boiled as those who ruthlessly pursue their belief, having iron will, which refers to Terui. This one's not shilling though, more like talking about why being hard-boiled doesn't actually work, going against Shotaro's values - a deconstruction. I actually feel that other than a sigh, I find Shotaro not responding enough to the real consequences of being hard-boiled here, other than going to stop Terui against his injuries, making Akiko throwing her chief position to prevent him leaving as endearing this time which is worrying about his state. That alone also qualifies for iron will to stop potential danger despite his injuries. Terui throws a bit of his anger to Jinno and Makura as well for failing to find Makiko (the "good work" seems sarcastic, opposite to treating those 2 as children in his mumble), and decides to work independently. While Terui follows after Makiko's son, Watcherman informs Shotaro and Akiko that Makiko's personal territory is Ayumi Park, and it's shown that Makiko visits the place and flashback of her playing with her son appears. Makiko meets her son in present day there, who is named Kiyoshi, and shown to be cold to his mother, ignoring Makiko's explanation to explain the reasons. Accel, naturally, jumps into the conclusion that Makiko is so despicable that the son won't defend her and resumes his attack. Shotaro and Akiko arrive to stop him, with Accel calling Shotaro out to not realize what he already did (likely the assumption that Shotaro let the supposed criminal continue her attack unprovoked, which'd be rotten in his eyes, and while it can potentially happen, doesn't mean one's own action is never wrong either like Terui's). Phillip arrives too with Fang Memory so that they fight Accel as W FangJoker, outright viewing Accel as insane. It seems that true Accel is stronger than base W, as he keeps up with FangJoker. Accel shows another one of his abilities, using jet variant of engine type to fire energy projectiles. Accel then uses electric variant of engine type to enhance Engine Blade's slashes with electric. W counters with Shoulder Fang, and restrains Accel, claiming that losing composure reduces his fighting effectivity. Contrary to popular belief that when someone is angered so much (except those that literally have anger as actual superpower) they can mow anything in their way, instead you won't be able to keep clear head. Accel claims he's doing his job as officer, but W figures it out that Accel was only fighting for vendetta, though Accel admits that as he reverts to Terui. Duty as officer? More like Terui knows nothing/being blinded about that, as murdering criminals constantly with no trial or conviction is a criminal act itself, especially that it comes from a cop himself, not from a vigilante. Phillip figures it out from the fact that the victims of Iceage Dopant attacks involve Terui's family after his search. Terui lashes out again for being a "know-it-all" regarding his feelings, but Phillip's rational is put in good use here, he acknowledges that, but is also why Terui had to tell them to actually solve the problem, the very reason he hired the protagonist trio... Terui's impulsiveness is clarified again as Saeko (bringing Wakana along) is preparing to meet up a valuable ally of Museum which is said as the lead suspect in the freezing attacks lately, and the W Memory user. Which, as Shotaro pointed out, the consequence of revenge and violence is that being blinded by it so much that Terui almost killed the wrong person, after telling his story that his family was killed by a freezing attack and his father bringing up W Memory... and he had the nerve to tell the trio that they have no right to stop him after finding the supposed monster, viewing everyone but him as in the wrong. Talking about law where they work, it's the reason why death penalty is questionable as well. Like most of the secondary Riders, Terui's an anti-hero, as while he's a cop doing his job (not a corrupt one), he had several unpleasant traits like being driven by personal reasons like hatred and revenge, the brutality and violence in carrying his will, and the self-righteousness to reject reasoning until now, all which are needed to be kept in check. Especially in series like W where the Dopants are like Riders, only strong in their Dopant form, but is completely normal in human form which can be easily subdued. Unfortunately the consequences of those trait isn't always shown in other characters possessing those traits in other media, or worse, portraying actual morality as being ineffective (while thinking that being heroic/moral is simply destroying evil), which can lead into the audience thinking that heroes have to possess those traits to become 'effective', while bashing those who object as being "stubborn" and "naive" (like Terui himself). Regardless of it being 'effective' or not, doing the right thing means you shouldn't resign to the cynical perception of reality and only doing what is most 'effective' like pragmatism and the end justifies the means instead, which are morally wrong to do, to regards unlucky few with finite value like cattle, disregarding their individuality and feelings, and even if anti-heroes are subcategory of heroes, doesn't mean they don't have to work towards becoming better persons all-round. Shotaro leads Terui into the real Iceage, which turns out to be Kiyoshi. Kiyoshi is dancing in a dance club, but kicks everyone out as the protagonist trio and Terui comes. Shotaro notices that Makiko's infamy is due to her son, not herself, who wastes her money and attacks people. Kiyoshi is borderline psychopathic, abusing his power to attack anyone who pisses him off, including Shotaro accidentally shoving him at Cornflower Blue, even enjoying inflicting pain to others, excusing himself due to others mocking him as useless son. While Makiko was actually a good mother, protecting him by spreading flowers in crime scene. It finally gets through Terui's thick head that he almost killed an innocent. Makiko tries to stop Kiyoshi once again, but he directly defies her mother to escape by pushing her to ground, enraging Shotaro. Shotaro and Phillip chases after him to fight as W HeatJoker, while Akiko takes care of Makiko and Terui is still disgusted but conflicted at Shotaro's "naivety". Akiko admits to him that Shotaro is half-boiled, but the scene plays it out as acknowledging it as endearing part of Shotaro instead, reminds me of Kagami in Kabuto being 'praised' for his idiocy due to him rushing to do the right things. In W's fight, Iceage has an ability to control nearby water as well, turning it into freezing projectiles. W changes into HeatTrigger to fight against it, but gets overwhelmed. Terui arrives and henshins into Accel, fighting against the freezing projectiles with steam ability in Engine Blade. Accel finishes the fight by launching Iceage with electric Engine Blade and Engine Maximum Drive A-Slasher, launching A-shaped concentration of energy. Terui almost kills Kiyoshi in his human form who is reduced to begging for help, as Shotaro and (M)akiko tries to stop him, but to their relief Terui handcuffs him instead. Though not fully as he'd only do it in Fuuto, Shotaro succeeded in making Terui change a bit to play by his rules (actually law rules are like that in the first place) there, with his half-boiled traits held in higher regard (even Shotaro only calmly denies it there.. well should argue about iron will being something that he had too). It feels wrong to me that all of Kiyoshi's aggression instantly disappears at this point though, even without power (or it should be the reason). Another twist comes that, the Memory Kiyoshi used wasn't W, but Iceage, so it means that Terui didn't catch his real target for now. Said real target is discussed by Saeko and Wakana as a real monster for his Gaia Memory usage, not following anyone, and that they're lucky he's not their enemy. After the case ended, Shotaro is back at being irrationally mad at Terui.. due to him acting like he owns the office making delicious coffee (even to Shotaro) and attempting to take over him as Phillip's partner (as usual, Shotaro being viewed as beneath Phillip), leading to Shotaro throwing pillow to him. Yes, Terui's change isn't full at this point. |
