When I saw the skeletons, my first thought was: "Someone is getting ready for the Skeleton War. :lol" but I had a feeling that the Cybermen would be involved. The reasons being:
1. The preview of the episode 2. The symbol used for 3W and the doors 3. The dark water 4. The photos from the set earlier this year Can't wait to see the conclusion to all of this next week. So sad it's the season finale already. :( |
Because with the Doctor there's always some traits that run through every incarnation of the Doctor. With the Master it's just "evil" and "progressive madness". It's a far cry from the Moriaty-like character the Master originally was and it's something I miss. That's no different to everyone missing an older Doctor before Capaldi came along.
And I'm not quite ready to call this Master a "regeneration" yet. This is the Master and there could be any number of reasons he's had a gender change (only a fraction of the previous Masters were fully-fledged regenerations). I fully EXPECT it to be a regeneration though because the whole point of this exercise was to turn heads. |

Also, I saw a theory over on fanfic.net, along with news that the shippers are awakening from their graves. Here it is courtesy of ozzie loves the squaddie: Clara is pregnant. I think in the beginning of Dark Water she was going to tell Danny. There's already been a lot of foreshadowing with Clara and children/babies; •she works with children (governess, entertainment manager, nanny, teacher), and is almost always the one to go after scared, alien children •she has to decide whether or not to save the baby inside the moon •"Do you want to have babies?" "What? ... yeah." •Kill The Moon Ends with a shot of Clara staring wistfully up at the moon •she finds Danny's parental attitude very attractive •"If humans remembered what things felt like, you would'e stopped having wars, and stopped having babies." When the Doctor talks about war the camera's on him, but I believe what pushed her to confess everything to Danny was that she discovered she was pregnant. She kept telling him very emphatically that her I love you was only for him now, and in the background (and aboyandhischin pointed out to me) one of her sticky notes says 'three months.' That could mean any number of things, but this seems most likely. It would make sense that when she discovered she was pregnant, she'd call Danny to confess everything and start her normal human life with him. It also explains why the Doctor was so willing to help (though I think he would'e shown sympathy regardless of whether she was pregnant or not) - he scans her, and says, "Oh, you're a mess of chemicals." It could just be her in mourning, but it could also be pregnancy hormones. What do you guys think? Coz if Moffat actually deciedes to kill of Danny :lol it would explain how Listen happens, as much as I hate that episode. |

Holy fuggin shit I did not see that coming. Clara went crazy, Danny died ( may he rest in peace ), and that woman we have been seeing all these episodes is actually THE MASTER who supposedly died when ten and him put the time lords back into their pocket dimension and he has an army of Cybermen!

At least the s3 Simm version anyway. I try to forget The End of Time happened. |
What was wrong with the End of Time Master now? He was brought back wrong because of her, so his body was burning up, and it made him go a little rockier than usual.

Several times the Doctor has expressed interest in being ginger or upset that his new form isn't ginger. If the Doctor could control what his new form looked like he would be ginger instead of other colors. |

We're getting close. I understand there have been one, maybe two, small tweaks to the titles for this episode (that are apparently ticking people off left and right). I am both excited and nervous. The last episode was fairly restrained so I'm hoping we don't get two episodes worth of bombastic nonsense and handwaving/reset solutions crammed into sixty minutes. There is that awful falling effect to contend with as well. Still, brave heart and all that! :D
Oh, apparently there is something post credits, if you haven't heard. It's probably just a trailer for Christmas, but it should be worth sticking around for. Edit: Quick post episode thoughts, I need to digest this one for a bit. Clara's credits, I was amused. She is not gone. Neither is Missy. I still don't like Danny Pink, but all of the actors excelled with the material they were given. I really do wish the Doctor would return to using his intellect to create solutions and stop letting love defeat every problem. The Brig's cyber-conversion will be a hot button issue, but I'm glad Kate survived. Poor Osgood, RIP. |
Didn't like it very much at all :( the "twist" was insanely obvious from the start, the Cybermen have just devolved further and further into bad ripoffs of other similar things and Osgood continues to infuriate me in ways unimaginable (but she's dead now! Woo!). Everything was so speedily cobbled together at the end it didn't really properly handle any aspect of it at all.
Gomez was absolutely superb though. I'm not a particular fan of the new series "Oh Doctor please just notice me!" Master but I can't fault her performance at all.And she killed Osgood, making her even better. Bleh. |
So, Zeo, what are your thoughts on Missy? Dead or Teleported?
I think the latter, but it does kind of render the Brig's last act pointless. |
Probably teleported, but it bugged me how everyone just instantly shrugged it off and moved on the next thing. And how that kept happening until the episode ended.
I really don't know how I feel about the Brig thing. On the one hand it was a really cool moment but on the other hand I was still processing the whole "wait, so every dead body buried on Earth is now gone?" thing. Plus the fact only he and Danny were the only ones to overcome the orders didn't strike me as very good writing. |
Yeah, I was sort of distressed with how quickly most deaths were brushed off. I wasn't a huge fan of "She born of the Tumblr Crowd" Osgood, but I liked Kate and at the point I thought she was still dead it was distressing at how it was just ignored. While we didn't get the giant reset button I expected, I think there was some pretty deliberate manipulation of emotions without thought to its effect on storytelling.

NOOOO! OSGOOD!!! DAMN YOU MOFFAT! DAMN YOU AND YOUR STUPID DEATH-FETISH! *Realises everyone hates Osgood" ...Missy, right guys?
Anyway, now that I've partially calmed down, that was... mixed. Honestly, I just found it meh. Mostly because it seemed kind of silly, what with every grave coming back alive, but I'm just going to say that only most graves came back. Otherwise there wouldn't be enough metal for everyone. Logic concerns aside, this new Master makes me kind of off-putted, what with her almost ship-fic love of going "We're not so different." I almost expected him invite her into the TARDIS again... and I just remembered Moffat wrote Curse of Fatal Death, and with that ending everything makes sense. Anyway, Danny's final ending makes sense, even if I still don't know where the kid came from, and I'm going to miss him. He was good. He was the best Cyberman ever. Apart from Craig. Also, that's not The Brig as a Cyberman. I don't care what it is, but it's not the Brig. At least, that would not be a fitting end for him. And poor Doctor. Thinking you've found Gallifrey and it turns out The Master was being, as usual, a massive assweed. And poor Clara, being pregnant and all with no Danny. I honestly think she deserved a better send off than that. I don't know, but it just felt... not enough. Maybe after the Angel's Take Manhatten anything will feel small. Much better than that episode, though. ALso, did anyone else see the gag in the credits? Overall, this is probably my fourth favourite series finale, behing Parting of the Ways, Journey's End, and Doomsday. Actually, it's probably ties with Doomsday. I will try, later, to fix this into an actual coherent review, but right now my feelings are still pretty high, And crushed. So, next month, Santa Claus... Oh god why? |
.. Fuck you Steven Moffat. Fuck you so hard I refuse to spell your name right. Osgood?! She dies but you save Leftbridge?! .. DIE IN A FIRE!

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. Capaldi was great, Gomez was amazing (I really hope she's not dead - I want more Missy). The resolution paid off a lot of the stuff that's been set up over the season, mostly very effectively. I think the only real downside I have was the death of Osgood, who was a really fun character and had a lot of potential. Fingers crossed that this was just the Zygon. Still, we got Danny Pink dead out of it, so it balances.
The best part of the episode, though? The Cyber-Brigadier. Conceptually, it's a really goofy damn idea, but I will be damned if it didn't bring a tear to the eye. I'm sure he'll never appear again - and I really don't want him to - but I love the idea that he came back, one last time, to help the Doctor. |
Damn I did not expect that. Danny turned into a Cyberman but somehow retained his humanity, The doctor actually considered killing someone, and as usual we lost another great companion. I also wasn't expected Santa Claus to appear in the tardis. Loved this episode it was a good season finale.

Wait, is the season done already? What about the 13th episode?
If so, it was an awesome finale for what turned out to be an incredible season. I already like Capaldi better than Smith and they did an incredible job with Clara. Glad Danny is gone though as he was doing nothing but hindering the show. My favorite episode of the season is Listen, by my god these last two episodes have been the best they have done with the Cybermen since Season 2's finale. This season went by too fast but it sure as hell more than made up for the garbage seventh season. I can not wait for the Xmas special, especially with Nick Frost as Santa. That was unexpected at the end and awesome. |

Next day. ... Nope, still hate Moffat. Bring her back!
|
I have to disagree. I hate a lot of the things Moffat has done, but killing off Osgood is not one of them. She was the embodiment of the Tumblr fangirls and she served more of a purpose in death than life.

I think we can still be friends though. Unless..

I liked Osgood, personally, but I'm not super upset at her death after mulling it over for awhile. It was such a great scene and Michelle Gomez was so damn amazing that I can live with Osgood dying if that's the price we had to pay to get that scene.
I'd still be cool if that was actually just a Zygon, though. |

I just thought Osgood that died could of been the zygon one due to the fact zygon could not remember they where a zygon so the real one could of been out there alive still

I'd like to chime in having finally been able to catch up through the finale about 5 minutes ago.
This series as a whole is just all over the place. Capaldi is spot on as the Doctor. I enjoy his fiery almost manipulative portrayal very much. But most everything else this go around was just phoned in. Clara was serviceable as always and Missy wound up being FAR more enjoyable in the final two episode than her lesser appearances through out the series. But the bits with her tacked on for some weeks felt just like that. Tacked on, randomly even. I didn't feel there was true significance to them. And that they didn't really constitute some sort of overarching plot. The handful of actually enjoyable episodes were (for me) Deep Breath, Listen, & Dark Water. But what I found enjoyable with these was almost drown out with the pointless drivel of a majority of the others. Pointless half companions who didn't amount to anything useful like Courtney just drove me mad. Danny was utterly useless and devoid of character development until the last 10 minutes of the finale. The Doctor as the President of Earth? I mean the list goes on with ill conceived and poorly executed ideas this year. But I'm firmly in the camp of thank god Osgood died. She was just plain awful. If I'd had to hear "bowties are cool" one more time I'd have tried to do her in myself. So bravo Missy for that. While I feel that Cybrigadier teeters on the edge of smack in the face insult and meaningful albeit misguided tribute, I was happy to see Kate live. So I can forgive it. And the Santa bit at the end with Nick Frost brought a smile right to my face so I'm actually looking forward to the Christmas Special quite a bit. |
You to?! I loved Osgood! I wanted her to become the next companion!
