Damn near every series, regardless of era, tells the origin of their powers. Bad actors are all around the board, and that money oriented series design is the only thing that keeps Sentai on the air. As for stories and drama, Yellow4 dying isn't "Deep story telling" that's just "The actress wanted to leave the show, so they had to scramble last minute." Many early series had incredibly shallow stories. Typically amounting to "Monster shows up. Pose. Destroy monster." At least in current series they try to create and weave a storyline into their series. Many early series were MOTW series in true fashion. The interest of what kids want to see shift from generation to generation. Or should we merely shove what we perceive as better down their throats and force them to enjoy it? You know what? Fuck it. Super Sentai was always money oriented. They didn't make Bioman to show a dramatic series of love, death, and heroics. They made Bioman to make some mother fucking money. And the moment toy sales began to lower, they'd shove some new gadget into the series to put that shit on the shelves. They did that thirty years ago. They did that twenty years ago. They did that ten years ago. They do that today. |
