Oh, look at that. When the mecha has actual proportions, it doesn't look like shit.
Shame they fucked the toy up. Red becoming Gorilla is neat. I'm curious how it works in action. Also Tiger Knee |
I'm really into all of this.
The JuuouChanger is incredible. I think this might be the first time I ever buy a Sentai henshin device. I can see that sitting quite nicely on my desk. Loving JuuouEagle/Gorilla. That's a really fresh and cool gimmick. The way they use the negative space of the eagle to reveal the gorilla is really neat. Here's hoping all of the Juuougers acquire a form change at some point. Haha... Cube Giraffe looks just like a "!" block from Mario when folded up. Between that and the blocky, 8-bit effect on the logos for the toys, I now suspect there to be a secondary motif of 8-bit video games (not just Minecraft). I'm actually surprised we're not coming out the gate with Legacy hero toys. Pretty interesting that there doesn't seem to be much of an anniversary gimmick yet. Those thinking Juuouger will be less referential than Gokaiger appear to have been on the right track. |
Yeah, the pictures of the mecha look pretty good. The stacking gimmick is growing on me. Its a shame you can't stack them in any order. Each one seems to have a fixed position (top, mid, bottom) that it goes in in either combo. The uni-leg of the toy version still kills my interest. I'm curious to see the MiniPla and if it corrects the uni-leg problem.
Though the Gorilla having launching fists almost had me. Also it's like an entire season of just the Bear Origami from Shinkenger. |
The new images are making me hate things a little less. I love Jyuoh Eagle's sword. The chain-sword element is great, as is the clear nod to the Bringer Sword from Jetman.
The Eagle-Gorilla change is great and disappointing at the same time: disappointing because I'd hoped the rumors of a six-person team in the first quarter were true, but great because it's a new idea and (at least initially) looks cool. I wonder if it'll be represented in figure form as a reversible torso. Sadly, the uni-leg is alive and well in the second mecha and alternate combinations, but we get a tiny image of how Jyouh King is supposed to look outside toy form, and it's... less bad? But yeah, I think I'm going to skip the DX mecha line and either go with minipla or wait to see if Sentai Artisan does something palatable at a price point I can stomach. Anyone else think the giraffe looks more like a distorted hyena? The most interesting possibility posed by these scans is that the other Jyuohgers (do we have an official romanization, yet?) could gain secondary forms as other animals as the series progresses. Perhaps this gimmick also explains the relatively plain suits and the animal-face prints. |
I am really surprised that this is the first Sentai since Go-Busters that we dont have a big collectible gimmick like the Shuriken.

Is it just me, or does the new mecha look an awful lot like the Lightspeed Solarzord?
