Just blasted my way through another 10 episode of Gaoranger! Up to 34 now! This show continues to impress me. Once Ura's true plans came to light involving the 1000 year evil I thought things were getting good. And then Blue, Yellow, Black, & White died!! It doesn't matter if it wasn't lasting, that was incredibly well done. And the advent of Gao Icarus being tied to that was also amazing.
I'm up to the 3rd Highness Duke Org now, Rasestsu. Really don't care for the design but it's not really any worse than Ura. His goals don't seem as lofty yet either. After all Ura unsealed Rouki, accidentally created Gao Silver, and the entire process was for his benefit too! So as far as Orgs go he's been one of the best. Really looking forward to where things go from here. I continue to be impressed by this show each episode! |
I just love how Rasetsu is both a man and a woman talking at the same time.

2) His name is Anubis "Doggie" Cruger. Doggie is a nickname given to him because he still resembles an Earth dog whether his skin is reptilian or not. I dare you to find me a lizard with that kind of nose and ears. I find it more strange that the Japanese alien that looks like a dog has the real name of "Doggie." That's like encountering a human named "Sapienie." 3) Regardless, at least Cruger's mouth moves when he talks. Not only that, but it has full animatronics that allows eye movement and more detailed lip movement. The Japanese suit can move it's mouth, but they constantly forget that the suit can and it barely functions at all when they do remember. Hell, Kruger's mouth doesn't move at all until episode 5. In terms of quality, the US suit is completely superior. PS I'm starting to think the "K" was changed to a "C" for this exact arguement :lol |
Well then they should have made him look more like Anubis instead of being scaley.

Up to Quest 40 of Gaoranger. The last few episodes have been crazy! I long suspected that Fuutaro was Gao God but it was crazy to see the Orgs manipulate him. Though the Orgs had completely valid points, what Rasetsu said about humanity is spot on and the proof was in our waste giving birth to new Orgs. This arc may be why people think this show is 'heavy handed with environmentalism". It's of course a fantasy setting but the show is trying to illustrate (in an exaggerated sense) how humans destroy their own world. I can see where Goseiger got some of it's inspiration from now. And now that I've made that connection I see why I love both of these shows!
|
lol @ Gao God. I just call him Predaking because that is what I think of whenever I see him.
|
Gao God is way more badass than Predaking :lol I love how crazy and out there his design is. Even though it's just a remold and repaint of Gaoking it just looks so foreign to Super Sentai. Really cool and powerful.

Started GoGo V, watched the first two episodes
Like I knew, this series is AWESOME |
Dekaranger episode 1.
Not much to comment on. Ban is loud, and the rest of the team exists, at least. I'm not sure how I like Ban. He's loud and brash, but I can't say that I hate him, primarily because it's only been 1 episode, so they had to point out character traits, not actual character. I do like seeing the vehicles being acknowledged as giant, explaining why the roads are always inexplicably large enough to accommodate them. Pretty neat. Some things I didn't like, though: Ban destroyed a church and ruined a wedding then killed someone they needed to take in alive (Well, destroyed, since he was a robot). Believe it or not, policemen are still held accountable for their actions... Doggie's suit here looks better than Doggie's in SPD, but please, you gave him a functioning mouth. USE IT. At least Doggie (SPD) actually looked like he was talking, and not just having his mouth hang open like a dumbass. DekaGreen. Someone get this man acting lessons. His line delivery was on par with Samurai. |

I just finished watching the 20th episode of Carranger which features the first official appearances of Pegasus Thunder and Dragon Cruiser. Unfortuntely, it was the last episode that was english subbed. At least it was fun while it lasted especially the first two episodes that featured Signalman. Anyway, I'll probably check out the subbed episodes of Megaranger and Gingaman next though I might take a bit of a short break from Super Sentai viewing beforehand.

Ban didn't mean to destroy that church either so I can forgive that and don't worry about the enemy he destroyed. You'll see that resolved more properly in the next episode. After seeing Dekaranger it's pretty clear that the original Doggie costume is MUCH better than that lizard monstrosity they made for the US, whether the mouth moves enough or not. And I'll echo what Switchblade said. Sen gets some great development down the road and growsa decent personality. I really loved him towards the end and after the series in Magi VS Deka. |

Up to Gaoranger Quest 41 now. That was one funky Christmas episode. Not the worst I've seen but not great. I mean how could Red fall for Christmas Orgs obvious fake out? The whole episode it was so damn obvious and he just fell right into it. Oh well. Christmas Org was nowhere near as awesome as Santa-Chan from Boukenger. Oh Rina Akiyama :D

Was GaoRanger's Monster of the Week Who Is Not Really Evil the one that was played by the dude from many series such as AbaRanger? The older bald on top dude with the black beard and mustache? Sorry, don't know the actor's name, but he was in Battle Royale, AbaRanger, Gamera the Brave, and several other movies.

Yep, that is exactly who I am referring to.

Kakuranger 12:
Not a whole lot to say on this episode. We finally have a major villain (just when I was wanting one too). He's a mad scientist Yokai name Dr Yugami. Him and Tengu make copies of past Yokai to fight the Kakurangers. I do like that each Yokai comes from a character focus episode and they fight the corresponding ranger. Good fight, grow. Good fight, bad guys win. Kakurangers pulls a new power out of their collective asses followed by another good fight! If there's any misstep in this episode, it's that the Juusho Fighters come out of no where. However, I don't care beacuse the Juusho Fighters are awesome. |
Kaku 12.
It was fun. Looks like we're finally getting a reoccurring villain, which is always nice. The Juusho Fighters were great. Watching them was like watching Gekitouja, fast and awesome. It's kind of a sour point that Sasuke just kind of knew they could do that, but meh, not really much else to complain on. |
Deka 4
I don't really have much to say, but the decision to delete this guy was a tad much. Kidnapping and smuggling are bad, but not execution levels bad... Anyway, I'm still trying to determine who I like more between Deka and their SPD counterparts. I definitely prefer Bridge to Sen-Chan, but between the rest, I'm still unsure. I might prefer Sky to Hoji, but that's only because Hoji's story ark in eps 3 and 4 was so cliche that I'm not sure if it's the character or just the writing that I disliked. |
Ooooooookay, they are monsters, the point of Sentai is to destroy the monsters. No one has ever complained before.
As for Kaku 12, that is the one with Tengu, right? |
SPD imprisoned them, though...
If they were going to be a normal Sentai, that's fine. But they're not. They're policemen and detectives. Getting a Delete approved for murderers is fine, but smuggling and kidnapping? I'm a tad afraid I'll see this later on. "You've been charged with Jaywalking on 12 planets. Delete Approved!" And yes. Kaku 12 was Tengu. |

Totally agreed with Switchblade. The cast is far superior to their SPD counterparts. Hoji was already a better character than Sky. But episode 37? That cemented him as one of my favorite blues ever. Sen-chan being the Only truly dull member of the team for about half the series

And again these guys are special police yes. But they are also super heroes. I don't care what the setting is, they're doing the same thing every sentai before or after has. They're destroying the monsters that threaten the Earth or life on it. Why does there need to be an alternative for guys like the Hell Siblings, or Shake, or Abrera, or Genio, or Durden, or any other number of them? These were serious criminals who committed murders and mass atrocities on countless planets. They were very real threats that if not stopped could and would have destroyed the earth. The whole point is that in a childrens show the bad guys are irredeemably bad and the good guys are absolutely good. Whose more "good" than a cop to a child? And who would be more seemingly evil? Big scary alien mosnters. Why would they try an alternative on someone who is so "clearly evil" to a child? This also brings up why the aliens associated with Dekaranger are humanoid like and based on average animals like dogs, swans, chickens, gorillas etc. They're the "good" aliens because they're based on animals that are earth like and relatable to children. |
I thought those events were retconned out during the new 52 (Don't know, I don't read DC)
Anyway, it's still a tad excessive that someone who smuggled things online got the same punishment as someone who was wanted for murder on 29 planets. Hell, seeing as how absolute they are, I'm a tad surprised Umeko wasn't Deleted for losing her license in episode 5... And isn't Kamen Rider for the same age group? Why are they allowed to take alternate routes, like how Kirihiko/Nasca was kind of sort of redeemed in Double, or the Mole Beastman being saved by Amazon instead of getting killed by him? |

And W is not a great example because the Dopants were being influenced by their memories. Yes they made the initial choice to use them but after that they were corrupted by them. They were innocent in that sense, predisposed to be redeemed. They weren't in full control of their actions. Alienizers are fully in control of themselves. |

A lot of this probably just boils down to Japan being a different culture with different views on capital punishment and certain expectations of the "heroes vs. monsters" genre. |

More Deka!
Right now, I say that Sky is currently a better character than Hoji, who's only characterization, even after his 2 episode arc, is "I'm perfect." You've said that he becomes better at episode thirty something, but until then, Sky is just better, with better motivation, traits, and flaws. Jasmine is better than Z, though. She had an interesting backstory, and I'm glad SPD took cues from Deka for Z's backstory, too, since I loved it there as well. I do prefer Doggie being the one outright to save her, rather than be cloaked and only reveal it was him a decade later. Comparing Ban vs. Jack, it's a tough call. Ban is energetic, but there are just moments where I wish someone would slap him and tell him to shut up for a freaking second. Oh, and I prefer SPD's morphing sequence to Dekaranger's. |

Oh, and I forgot I didn't compare Sidney and Umeko. ... They're both characters. Okay done. |

Dr Kain, please refrain from real world examples. This discussion is already borderline political. Let's not go over that line.
|
Dr. Kain I've removed your post.
This warning is for everyone so please read. Please do not bring real world politics into this. At the point that multiple people start doing that, warnings and infractions will be given to any involved. Please keep in mind that we're talking about a fantasy television setting, please try to keep comments within that context. |
Episode 12 of Gekiranger. I'm finding it interesting how most of the villain stuff was more or less ported straight into Jungle Fury while the hero stuff is completely different. I'm not sure Power Rangers ever did that before or after.
I'm also finding Master Elehung to be really fun. |
I have now reached Dekamaster.
It's pretty cool. I didn't realize Doggie was barefoot the entire time. Anyway, there's not much to really comment on. It's neat, and the episode after was nice, teaching the rangers to not rely on him. Also, Ben G was Nobuyuki. I did have to double check, but I was pretty positive because that voice of his is awesome. |
