I don't watch Who nor do I really want to so my observation is kinda moot, but I keep thinking of a heroic genderbent Green Goblin whenever I see you guys say "Osgood."

Just want to say with a very general statement that I did not enjoy the finale very much.
|
I don't get the hate of thee finales. Except for Season 7's finale, they all have been utterly fantastic. I think I might rate this one as my 4th favorite finale, bumping the finale to S6 to the fifth spot, but it still did not top either of the three Tennant finales. Well, maybe...
|
Personally, I will always feel that The Big Bang - series five's finale - is possibly my favorite single episode of Doctor Who ever.
|
Honestly this was the first finale I've felt really let down by. RTD's always kinda fell apart at the end but were extremely enjoyable until then, and while I don't remember them quite as fondly even season 6 and 7's were among the highlights of what were otherwise pretty average seasons.
Big Bang was fantastic though, well aside from the whole Dalek mercy bit. Doesn't top Parting of the Ways as my favourite, but in terms of craft I'd say its the best one. |
I was loving the new season. I was loving every episode, every damn episode. And now they killed Osgood. And I don't care anymore. And no, I will not let it go. >_<
|
Well, I've had some time to think and get my ideas in order. I have some points to make: Damn you Moffat for killing Osgood, and damn you for leaving both our heroes so unhappy. Even if Clara's coming back for the Xmas special, she deserves better. Damn you.
2) Cyber-Brig still feels off, but I don't mind as much as long as he becomes a force of justice. Basically, Iron Man. 3) No way in hell has Missy been perma-killed. Overall, the series has been bery iffy. Episodes like Mummy on the Orient Express and Flatline were really good, but there were ones like Listen and Kill the Moon that really weren't so good. The finale feels especially epresentativee of that fact- it still feels... meh. Not good, not bad, just... meh. Overall, this series, while being miles better than 7 or 6b, is still not going to be my favourite. Even though Mummy makes it into my Top 10 list :) |

Also, I found a thing. I don't agree, as sexist as that sounds, and I'm only going to say one thing: Male Rani. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9tVske9RGQ |

I liked the finale enough, but I also did feel a high bar was set by the previous episode, so in a way it didn't exceed expectations. But it was good enough, I don't really have anything to complain about it.
Overall I enjoyed this season a lot more than I was expecting. Capaldi has been a very entertaining Doctor, and the highlight of each episode. It also did quite a bit to develop Clara in ways that the 7th series didn't, so that was appreciated. Here's hoping the 9th series will be better. |
I had a theory I'm going to force down your eye-holes.
Santa is in the Christmas Special. I love it's Nick Frost, by the way. Anyway. Santa is in the Christmas Special. What if, at the end of the episode, The Doctor's present is.. OSGOOD COMING BACK TO LIFE?! You owe me Moffat! |
Don't you get enough of annoying Tumblr fan girls without having them physically appear on the show?

It's a pity Death in Heaven didn't have a moment where Osgood had to get over the the fact the Doctor wasn't a young "attractive" man anymore, because that was really all that was missing from her repertoire.
|
It appears as though there will be a clip from the Christmas special on Children in Need this Friday.
(Oh, man. CiN is auctioning of the Quattro from Ashes to Ashes this year! Heartbreaking! Also a Doctor Who set visit, but I'd rather be firing up the Quattro!) Quote:

That's good. Everyone likes different things. I didn't see her as being much of a character. She was more a collection of tropes and representative of an unpleasant sub-section of internet fandom. For that, I was glad to see her go.

Am I the only one who didn't care about Osgood dying? Hell, I didn'te ven remember that that was her name.

Double post, my bad.

Just a reminder that the Doctor Who bit should, I have been led to believe, be coming up fairly soon on CiN.
Edit: Interesting clip. Nice to see Dan Starkey without a thousand pounds of make-up. I wonder why the holiday satsuma reference was upgraded to a tangerine this time out. Foreign markets, perhaps? |
Yep, it's just been on.
Well, I'm much more excited about the Santa christmas special now I've seen the preview. The elves are really funny, and Clara's back, so she has a chance of a happy ending. Wooh! |
Here's the clip, for anyone who is interested.

According to the CV on her agency's website, Catherine Tregenna, who wrote a number of Torchwood episodes, is apparently writing an episode of series 9. I wasn't going to mention it as a few writers in the past have had them officially writing for the show but their episodes never materialized for some reason or another and nothing is final until it comes from the BBC. However, the news seems to be exploding out into the wider sphere and I figured I'd pass it on in case anyone was interested and missed it.

What has been confirmed, however, is the title of the Christmas Special: Last Christmas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8gmARGvPlI (I'm not sorry...) |
A couple of very small snippets of scenes in the BBC Christmas trailer. The YouTube version still seems to be locked to the UK, but the one on the Guardian site works fine for those of us outside. Clara looks happy to be back! (And, man, Jenna just keeps getting better looking. Pardon me while I melt into a puddle of goo. :lol)
