Yeaaah, Houou Soldier's chest sticker is... definitely a big knock against him, and you can very clearly tell there were a couple years between him and Kiramei Red. Still, he manages to look good regardless and I can't complain too much for 500 yen! |
Yu-Do has come a long way since it first started. The stickers have gotten better and the articulation is much better, no doubt riding on the success of SO-DO engineering.
I have high hopes for the Zenkaiger Yu-Do, as they are pretty far from the standard humanoid mold. So speaking of larger figures in a typically smaller line, the Converge line of figures followed the same path. They wanted to introduce larger figures so they made a "Converge EX" and even did a poll asking what Gundam suits they'd like to see. The result was a lot of P-Bandai stuff that took the candy line to some pretty high prices. A lot of it Bandai doesn't consider "essential" (like a suit that only appeared in a side manga) so the prices are pretty high, but after doing a lot of these EX releases they've now started doing "SP" and "Plus1" editions which are like the EX but usually have more retail availability. Maybe none of this matters, but its all Bandai Candy toy division and I think they're stilling figuring things out. I've honestly been surprised at how much the Saber SO-DO are packing in the boxes. Buster and his giant sword felt so premium! |

Oh and the web exclusive will be the Gorgom trio, Kotaro, Nobuhiko, and Nobuhiko's dad. All the right ingredients needed to recreate that flashback scene. :lolol |

Kinda forgot Lucifer existed? https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311015154.jpg I mean I'm sure he's a great villain! Well I'm not sure. I mean he looks alright, at least! SO-DO continues to do anything and everything. Guess next wave's just doubling up on Primitive Dragons? I think this is in fact the first SO-DO Saber wave without Saber himself! Something cool about Lucifer isn't about he himself (sorry dude), but what he comes with -- RUBBLE!! Want to recreate the straight up Gilgamesh final battle of Zero-One? SO-DO is obsessive and passionate enough to have you covered! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014256.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014241.jpg Which I think neatly sets the stage for our final box of SO-DO Saber Book 6! As expected, an accessory pack... ... For Zero-One! Yeah a lot of us were expecting a Saber accessory pack, but frankly with just how much free space they have in this line to cover everything? I'm happy to see some extras like this, so let's get right into it! A closed Forceriser and a Progrise Key-loaded Thousand Jacker to replicate finishers! Pretty neat! The Thousand Jacker has a LOT of Progrise Key options including some that sound preeeetty spoiler-y for REALxTIME so I won't go into them here, but it's a lot; and it also works in this wave as Lucifer's weapon! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014351.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014945.jpg Wings, wings, WINGS!! Jin, Burning Falcon and Vulcan Rampage Gatling all came with their own wings, but they are fairly short. Understandable given the budget and what could fit in the box, but why would SO-DO want to just keep things reasonable and forgiveable when they have a chance to go all out? As such these are MUCH larger options, and Rampage's in particular includes the variant where he stabs the ground for his finisher. As a bonus, Jin's wings are connected in such a way that it's compatible with almost ANY figure, which of course they're going to show off with Saber in a picture that's too cool for words, because why wouldn't they! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014702.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014717.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014428.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014500.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311014651.jpg And finally, perhaps coolest of all -- A FINISHER EFFECT PIECE FOR RISING HOPPER!!! I'm almost surprised they didn't do something so iconic yet but this is still so SO cool to see and is a great commitment to play features on SO-DO's part. Just awesome https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0311015010.jpg And... that wraps up Book 6! Saikou Shadow, Saikou X-Swordman, Lucifer, Zi-O Decade Saber, Decade Complete 21 and two accessory packs which also lands the friggin' Samurai Sentai Shinkenger logo on the box. Woo! They said last wave was the craziest but I think this one gives 5 a run for its money. Awesome, awesome, awesome wave! And just because they can't wait? Next week they start going over Book 7 immediately! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0314092750.png |
That Hell Rising key on the Thousand Jacker is very suspicious

Also looks like there's new feet for Zero one too so you can do a rider kick pose without having the holes on his feet showing, so that's neat. |
Completely missed that part of the set, but yup! Lots of cool things going on in this one.
|
Seems cool, but wasn't expecting it! It's a pain that it only comes with one set of wings for Jin, though.
|
I was like "WHAT THE HECK IS REKKA DAIZANTO DOING THERE" and then realized oh right, Decade.
|
I was trying to sticker up Kenzan tonight and when I went to put his scarf in it was super tight. I got it in there with a bit of force, but when I went to rotate it the scarf snapped in two. Now I can't get the part that's in the back chest plate unplugged, so I'm kind of stuck.

Got pictures?

Here's the damage. |

Assuming the damaged area is big enough to drill a hole into, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fis6PPFsbtE |
lol I was also thinking that something Gunpla related would be the solution. You should be fine. Good luck. A decent pair of nippers might do the trick, too.
|
Maybe you could leverage off the back plate with a flathead screwdriver and then push it out with something?
|
Daaaamn, that sucks... at the very least he's cheap to replace, right?

Did a quick assembly of Ark-One, one of my favorite suits from Zero-One.
Pretty simple figure. Some white paint on the shoulder pads and belt. Panel liner marker here and there. The big addition is black paint near the elbow joints. That little bit makes a big difference. https://i.imgur.com/OgB9VjS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tdh6bbv.jpg |
Who's the duplicate figure in Chronicle Gaim 2? Apparently it's easier to just buy the whole box instead of a set so I wanted to know who the dupe is. If it's Jimber then cool.

CHODO lives!! Its 9th wave is to be here in July for 5500 Yen at retail and features a renewed Ultraseven, Alien Metron, Nexus Junis Blue (to complement last wave's Red), and Cosmos Luna Mode; celebrating his 20th anniversary. Lots of anniversaries this year! The accessory set features the usual beam effects, but also has a slugger hand for Seven; a stand; an alternate arm for Nexus and a table for Metron, because Metron!

While looking for other stuff I found this image of Fourze's old candy toy line in wave 1 and felt it was pretty relevant to post here with the discussion a couple pages back. The way they did it was by having three figures with one module weapon each, and then a box that contained seven other modules -- so a total of 10 per wave. I imagine SO-DO would probably be able to fit more in there, especially between two boxes.

We've had some great accessory packs recently, so I could definitely see a good amount of modules per wave. All show Rider forms is seven figures, so maybe three waves could probably accommodate that and all the modules. Nadeshiko and Fourze's many weird extra forms could be P-Bandai.

It's also worth noting that we have had slightly larger waves before to accommodate for a gimmick -- OOO Combo Change 1 had 10 boxes instead of 8, due to the gimmick working in such a way that you need 2 boxes for a complete combo but 2 + a special extra box for Tatoba. So if they feel Fourze would do well enough and that it'd need the extra space, we could see a 10 box wave. Same goes for stuff like Ghost and Drive too. |
We got a two-fer tonight -- Book 7 starts with Primitive Dragon and Elemental Dragon! There's not much more to it than that, so I'll get these two notes out the way -- Book 7 reveals continue next week, and Primitive Dragon comes with alternate Fantastic Lion stickers!
Funnily enough, the blog says they straight up didn't know how Elemental Dragon's fighting style would be; so enjoy the guesswork! http://bandaicandy.hateblo.jp/entry/20210321_rider https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0318100941.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0318100910.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0318101009.jpg |
Primitive Dragon looks great! Elemental Dragon is accurate to the suit, but unfortunately I really don't like the look of the suit
|
So much paint on both of them! But, why can't they include the hilts?! Is it that much effort to include a tiny piece of black plastic with every figure?
|
How are the shoulders doing on your SHODO figures? I'm curious as to how they hold up over long term, even with constant playing around and posing. I'd check myself since I have a few figures, but I won't be home for a little while.

I just checked the shoulders on one of my Shodos. One is a bit loose at a certain angle, but otherwise fine. I don't see any problems other than some standard ball joint wear.

I love that this style of shoulder pads is show-accurate, but the way they've done it kind of makes me worry since I haven't been able to check in on my figures in a super long time. |
I've been thinking for the past few weeks or so... I know we're going on about what SO-DO CHRONICLE line could be next, and there's certainly some of those that could be interesting (Fourze and Ghost in particular), but I find myself realising I wouldn't be as interested in a new SO-DO CHRONICLE line as I would YU-DO CHRONICLE.
Sentai infamously just does not get figures anymore outside the candy toy lines, and certainly not for anything past the current series. And with the way YU-DO lines are set up, with the exception of Kyuranger and Kyoryuger any past team including their sixths would fit in an entire wave on their own. That would exclude super forms, but I think most would be willing to accept that or there'd be a niche enough audience for PB waves of super forms. Anyone else kinda feeling this way? It also seems flexible enough to allow extra heroes like Princess Shinken Red, and then other extra heroes that would require two boxes are on teams like Gingaman which would allow for that. The only one aside from Kyuranger and Kyoryuger that seems problematic is Dekaranger due to having 8 rangers which wouldn't allow for an accessory box. |
