With the reviews dropping about "Cuties" and "Cancel Netflix" trending on Twitter, I cannot help but feel utterly disgusted and defeated by an industry I once admired and dreamt to be a part of someday. So many in the media are defending it and the trends are heading towards a dangerous direction. I don't know if I can in good conscious view any new content coming out of Hollywood. This is not a political statement. This is genuine concern about the direction our society is heading, particularly in the entertainment field.

Trust me, there's definitely a lot of trash coming out of Hollywood these days. And while I am tempted to say that film quality havs been in decline in recent years, the reality is that there have been plenty of trash films that have come out since the bginning, it's just that social media has allowed people around the world to emphasise and critique them more.

What's happening in Cuties has been made into a film before and frankly, I don't know what that says about society nor do I wish to know.

Ooooooh!!!! I'm definitely liking the look of these new Old Republic Black Series figures. While I have nothing against the new Disney canon (except for giving Admiral Ackbar a quick unsatisying death), I can't say I'm not nostalgic for the EU.

I seen a scene of the movie and learned more from the comments for the poor fools who watched the movie. It is worse than you think it is. Like what the fuck.

I refuse to watch it but I’ve have listened to commentators who have seen it, and how they describe it absolutely disgusts me. This outright evil content that should be burned.

I’m aware that Hollywood has always had trashy films but there’s a line one should know to never cross, and Cuties crosses that line! The subject matter isn’t novel, but the cinematography is softcore CP. This is abhorrent content. It needs to be expelled from existence and those who made the film belong in jail.

The thing with Cuties is that it's AGAINST sexualizing children as seen with the original film, but Netflix's marketing glorifies it. Very Cool of Netflix to take a movie about a woman's personal experience about an issue prevelant in our culture warning against it and to fucking end her career y marketing it by gloriying the exact shit it's against like how Fallout went from being against nuclear warfare to "wow nukes are cool"

Yurp. Our 4 seasons are: Dry/scorch/worse than summer I assume, Raining (closest one you'll get for a 'winter'), durian season, and lastly the haze season because some place just keep burning their plantations and the winds pushes it to our area and it's hazy for like a month to three.

Odd how this movie that's been out for 8 months would only now be judged on this then. I'll just quote what a friend had to say

"Anything can be misinterpreted by anyone. Generally speaking the film is considered a strong representation of these issues, an interesting coming of age story, and a specific story about a specific culture that the filmmaker is intimately familiar with as it is her own. And so for white america to take it and just market it in a way that is supposed to appeal to pedophiles I think it's a trash fucking take to blame the filmmaker or film for creating a piece of art based on her own life and culture. Especially because she had to scrub her fucking online presence as a result just to escape the harassment. I think that art should be allowed to exist. I think that art depicting difficult subjects should be allowed to exist, whether or not it succeeds at tackling them. Dude that's literally been my argument from the time. Netflix marketed the movie in a way to glorify what the movie's against and you said that didn't matter and that the movie was inherently awful by linking the guy who proudly worked for Alex "They're making the frogs gay" Jones but now you're saying there's a difference, which in this case, was Netflix's fault entirely as the original film had no such marketing when it got advertised and released long before Netflix made a deal to distribute the movie?

The movie's existed for months with relative silence in Europe but it gets one badly done Netflix poster and suddenly some random American lad known for being dodgy online happens to know the ins and outs of the casting process (and also accusing the director of nvestiagated by Interpol) and starts a feeding frenzy online based on out-of-context clips and hearsay.

Argh, I'm buying things to cope with sadness and boredom. I really really need to stop.

Hey so I'm going to throw my hat into the ring for the cuties discussion. I've heard from a person who has actually watched the film that despite the well intent the film still has the child actors act sexually and by focuses on those actors' bodies in a sexual way. This may be to simulate the way the adults are looking at them, but it's still damaging to those actors. According to the same person it shows the girls acting as the one choosing to sexualize themselves without showing some sort of manipulation by an outside actor. Along with this is has them sexually harass a boy their own age again without context.

Hey Deepsea (and anyone else for that matter), if you're bored I have a few suggestions:

1.) Read a book (online or physical).
2.) Play some games (mobile or console).
3.) Watch some cartoons/anime from your youth.
4.) Spread encouraging messages to your friends and family on social media.
5,) Learn a new language.
6.) Do something productive.

I'm personally combating my boredom by reading my Bible, sharing Bible verses on my Facebook, watching anime and doing university assignments.

I don't know why but I suddenly got really nostalgic for Phineas and Ferb (anybody remember that show?) and Minecraft so I started immersing myself in those things in the last week.

On a side note, I know I said learn a new language, but I'll admit I've been slacking off a bit. I'm trying to learn Japanese so I can finally read the Gundam EXA manga which was never translated.

I’ve actually been doing some of that myself. I’ve been participating in an online book club. I did buy a Nintendo Switch and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth as a new hobby. I’ve been watching some old shows and new shows. I’ve been learning Spanish and Norwegian. I’m about to start watching Astro Boy en español as a way to watch tv while practicing my Spanish. And I’ve been working on my art and my voice (singing and impressions).

As for religion is concern I’ve been feeling distant from my ward and I’m considering converting to Asatru. I just got a book in the subject.

I haven’t been buying a whole lot over the past few months, but within the last couple of weeks I’ve been spending more than usual. I think that’s because the pandemic has brought a big disconnect between me and my friends. A lot of them haven’t been keeping up with me even through text.

I hope Deepsea can get through this. I’m not the best example but I try.

Okay so I was on Reddit and a trending post was a video of someone going on about how Cuties went too far. I got curious and clicked.

And boy do I regret it.

To illustrate their point of how Cuties was borderline pedophillia, they actually included clips. Just two seconds of seeing them do...stuff I don't want to mention makes me sick. Like, I actually feel physically ill.

I'm gonna have to agree with people here. Cuties has gone too far. If this film really was made to promote a message against sexualisation of minors, then congratulations you did your job. I never want to see something like this again.
