Indigo League also has 82 episodes. I'm half finished on it so given Indigo I'll start the first Rider.
MMPR I has 60 episodes so 34 more is no big deal. The longest Ranger series seen from Toei was 53 with Kaku. Longest Toku I've watched so far. |
I’m currently re-watching Kamen Rider W’s summer movie through Toei’s Tokusatsu World Official YouTube channel. I also watched the first Kamen Rider Black movie again through there just last week.
|
I hope the Rider shows don't get blocked by Shout Factory. I may be able to soon resume from Rider #1 if that's the case. I saw the first ever Rider episode. Want to resume from episode 2.

Rider Line start date -
Spring 2023 Fall Kira Mage (Episodes 16 - 48) Late Fall - Winter 2023 Zen Kai Spring 2023 Rider Series #1 Late Summer 2023 V3 May 2023 Don Bros. Rider will be doubled up with Don Bros in May. By then finishing Zen Kai. Interesting. I can stream the Rider shows. |
I've started watching Kamen Rider Build. Currently watched up through episode 14 as well as the Heisei Generations Final movie.
And I'm just gonna be upfront about it, I feel like this ain't the show for me. The main issue I have is that not once has the show given me a real reason to care about anything going on. Like, it has this big dramatic plot going on, but never once has it given me a chance to get to know the setting, the characters, none of that. It just threw me into this world I know very little about with people whom I barely know and so far don't have any big traits for me to connect with. It's not like, say, Blade, where I was dropped into a world so crazy it made me excited to know more and figure things out. Instead, this first arc for Build is more akin to the first quarter of Ghost, wherein the pacing is so off-putting and the characterization is so thin that I just can't work up a reason to root for much of anyone, let alone look forward to seeing them on screen. Things like the death of Ryuga's' girlfriend and the twist about the Owner would've probably made for great stuff... if I had at all known anything or cared about the people involved at the time in which these things happen. Ontop of that, many a plot element doesn't make sense to me, especially given the show's' penchant for telling and not showing. We're told that the Sky Wall is this big deal, but outside of just being a gigantic literal metaphor, it really doesn't serve too much of a purpose outside of providing the Nebula Gas, especially given that the wall and the gas itself are easily avoiding or circumvented. We're told that Sento is this selfless hero, but whenever he's on screen he mainly just acts like a condescending jerk and alot of his more heroic traits/moments are simply delivered secondhand by other characters. We're told that Ryuga is a selfish douche who doesn't qualify as a hero(especially in HeiGen Final) despite him probably being the most sympathetic and kind character in the show so far. Add on that none of the action is really doing anything for me and that I find that most of the comedy really falls flat, and this show really isn't giving me much to work with. It has its moments, sure, but nothing to really help carry me through. Heck, Decade atleast had Diend. It overall feels like a show that cares alot more about its plot than its characters, and that just ain't me. Like, I'll still finish it, because if I can make it through Decade then I can make it through anything that Kamen Rider has to throw at me, but I'm sorry to say that so far I'm really not seeing where alot of the love this show gets comes from. |

Again, alot of his alleged more positive traits are delivered secondhand rather than him actually showing any of those positive traits to the people who matter or even to the audience. And half the time rather than using smarts to get out of a situation or to communicate with people, he typically just opts for brute force or relying on Misora's' simps for info. Probably the most messed up thing was the episode where it's implied that he wrote the letter from Ryuga's' dead girlfriend to try and get Ryuga to be more "heroic." Like, people give Sogo from Zi-O crap for being manipulative. This is way worse. |
Quote:
Sento's selfless acts are for example, taking in Banjou and believing in him, he's the very reason Banjou ends up in the cast. There's also how he treats Haruka in ep. 4. But just like the walls, some of the next few parts will emphasize that more. Banjou's selfish traits is shown in him complaining when others don't focus to help him clear his name or reverting Tatsuya into Smash to go after Night Rogue. |
Quote:
By the way, is Zi-O being accused of manipulation? He is the most frank with everyone and even his uncle cannot really lie! |

Meanwhile with Ryuga, sure, I wouldn't say he's a great guy, but alot of his actions and his general thought process are really understandable for the most part. Sento promises to help Ryuga clear his name only to proceed to not actually put any effort towards that. Ryuga's' primary motive is also to avenge his girlfriend and to make sure that no one else suffers as she did, which I'd personally qualify as far more heroic than anyone in the show gives him credit for. However, I don't think this is necessarily a bad trait, nor do I think it makes Sougo any less heroic. The Sougo we know generally only uses it for good and due to his lack of friends, it's probably his coping mechanism and the only way he knows how to work with people who regularly debate whether or not they should kill him. Shame that you're not enjoying the show and protagonist (also a self-proclaimed title for Sento, not like he's wrong either) much so far, but I hope you'll still find the winning formula in later episodes when the plot starts to escalate quickly. |

For the record, I'm not saying that Build is super terrible and the worst thing ever or anything like that, it's just very much not my cup of tea so far. And I do hope there'll be a turnaround as I keep watching. |
Quote:
Even genuine selfless motives doesn't automatically make them heroic, like if they're extremists who'd accomplish that by primarily doing extreme things they'd be (typically) anti-villains, such as Takatora in Gaim wanting to preserve the human race, but doing so by committing genocide on the remaining humans not getting Sengoku Drivers (albeit he had asked for Ryoma to focus on quantity for mass Sengoku Drivers so there can be more humans saved). Quote:
Of course Banjou's behavior is understandable, but someone being understandable doesn't mean they get free pass for everything (which is also often used for outright villains too, like explaining their actions as in "they have bad childhood!") Quote:
Though even that applies to Sougo somewhat too that his manipulating is one of the dark traits that can lead into him becoming Ohma Zi-O, if not moderated, shown in the Ryuki tribute 2-parter (ep. 21-22). |
I can understand where DreamSword is coming from. Not in the sense that I don't like Build (I love Build), but in the sense that it reminds me a lot about how I feel with OOO. Sometimes a show just manages a near total whiff on an emotional level for a specific viewer. You can tell WHY people like it but it simply is not working for you for various reasons.

I'm not trying to debate morality or philosophy, I'm simply not digging how Buold as a show tries to really talk up Sento while talking down to Ryuga, when most of Sento's' positive traits are simply things we're told about, whereas Ryuga's' more positive traits are things we're actually shown. Meanwhile, Sento's' negatives are really downplayed whereas Ryuga's' are condemned almost every episode. It's an issue of Telling and not Showing. Not trying to talk down to you. Just attempting to clear up some things. Quote:

Watched Episode 0 for Outsiders. Was an okay start. Disappointed Smart Queen was only here to job to Genm.
Still seriously confused as to how Ohja is still around. Motherfucker literally has 2 different endings, and neither let him be a rider again. He's either dead, or his timeline as a rider was reset so that he never became one. While the same argument can be made about Ryuki himself in the various crossovers, the big difference is that he doesn't have numerous specials focused around Shinji's return specifically. Also, the idea of Ohja Survive is terrifying, and I hope it actually pays off. Unrelated, this would've also been the perfect opportunity to bring back G4. His whole deal was that it's AI basically took over the user. Making it so G4 just straight up takes control of a Humagear would be a great way to bring it back as well as expand on it's AI. |
Up through episode 22 of Build. Here are some off-the-cuff cliffnotes on how I felt during this little section of the show.
Really not a fan of the constant gaslighting here. So many characters, even Sento himself, insist that Sento is the one responsible for the war, when that's not even remotely true, and arguably even worse than that, when Hazard Trigger comes around and it's time for the final bout with Grease, Sento proceeds to gaslight Misora into thinking that she's just as responsible as he is for everything going on. Stand up guy. Speaking of that final bout, it really should've been Grease vs Cross-Z Charge, considering that both the suits and the characters in them have a very blatant duality thing going on between them. But no, it instead goes to Build, because Hazard Trigger I guess. Heck, as much fame among fans as the Hazard Trigger debut episode has, I felt incredibly let down by it. The form itself really doesn't do much to stand out from other Berserk forms I've seen in Rider, and the sequence itself goes by really quick. Not helping is how easily the form is beaten both in the episode itself as well as in the "Raising the Hazard Level" specials, which only proceeds to undermine its supposed power more. That said, the main reason I was let down by that episode was the death of Aoba. Because see, I ended up feeling way more for Grease and the Three Crows than I did any other character so far. They group have a fun dynamic together, their character moments are very strong by comparison, and their friendship as a group actually feels genuine. Heck, there's a scene where they're all just kinda hanging out and having fun together, something that Sento and Banjo, the supposed "best match" have yet to have. I was actually legit let down that Grease ended up losing to Build in the end, and that scene with Grease reflecting on his fallen friend got way more out of me than the leads have. So, yeah, when Aoba died, rather than "Oh my god, Sento's gone off the deep end!" all I could think was "Wow, I was just starting to like these characters and now one of them is dead. Great." Outside of those highlights, it's basically just been more of the same so far in terms of how I'm interpreting what the show is presenting me. It has a few moments here and there, but it's still nothing great for me. |

After weeks of putting it off, I’m finally back on watching Kamen Rider Den-O. At least I'm now closer to the introduction to this show's secondary Rider since I'm now up to episode 17.
|
Early Den-O's pacing is kind of an issue. I appreciate the slow roll-out of the Imagin, but the pattern of New Imagin two-parter, New Imagin focus two-parter, New Imagin two-parter, New Imagin focus two-parter, etc. does get old before it runs its course.

Now up through episode 33 of Build. I feel like the wiki has very much mislabeled the start and end points of these arcs.
Anyway, the Rogue miniseries was literally just torture porn, so not my thing at all, and even from a storytelling perspective, it doesn't tell us anything the show itself doesn't already, so watching it felt like a waste of time. As for the arc itself, I felt that, for the most part, that it was basically just a repeat of the previous two but on fast forward. Fighting the other country, the other Crows dying off(so now all I have is Grease, thanks), more bottles being brought in at lightning speed, etc. Which, by the way, I've noticed that this show is really bad at handling its forms in general. Every new suit it introduces is effective for maybe three episodes at max before getting completely outclassed. Heck, even the FullFull Bottle is stonewalled by Hard Guardians a mere episode after it gets done making a joke of Rogue who was previously making a joke of every other suit beforehand and etc. Like, look, I get it, there's an arms race going on, but it doesn't exactly make for compelling storytelling the way it's presented. Atleast not for me. Side note here: My headcanon for Tsukasa was that he had short-term memory loss. My headcanon for Sento is that he is actually delusional, given how often his actual behavior clashes not only with his alleged "smart guy" position as well as how even the plot kinda undermines any sort of characterization he does get. Such as his dumb stunt about "betraying the country" so he can steal Pandora's Box, which is two minutes later rendered meaningless. Character dynamics are definitely weird in general for this show. I've already voiced my feelings about how this show favors its plot more than its characters, a recent example being Gentoku's' complete 180 towards the end of the arc for like no reason, but the biggest point of confusion for me is actually Grease/Kazumi. I noticed that, when it comes to the "lesser" scenes involving the characters simply interacting, which in turn gives development, all of those are with him and Banjo. Meanwhile, all of the "major" scenes, which do nothing but advance plot and/or action sequences are between Kazumi and Sento. It's such a strange imbalance and really, I have a way easier time believing that Kazumi and Banjo are close friends rather than Banjo and Sento, which in turns makes the big scenes between Sento and Kazumi feel really forced(like the action scene where the spirits of the Crows are cheering them on). Tying into that, the rare times this show tries to do humor feels incredibly off-tone due to just how much drama is going on with every episode, which is not helped in that it really doesn't match my sense of humor. The couple of fourth wall breaks especially feel out of left field in a show like this. But back to character specifics, Banjo's' stuff also kinda confuses me in terms of thematics. Him being an alien and using that to pose the question of if he qualifies as human feels like another repeat, given that the show already posed this question in terms of the Nebula Gas experiments, of which alot of people in the cast have already gone through(him included). And when it comes to Cross-Z Magma, while it is a cool form, shouldn't Grease be the one with the fire-focused form, given that he all the time talks about how his passion and soul are ablaze? Feels like a misstep. In the end, it's clear that this show's' primary focus is just on being a geopolitical war drama, and really, I can get much better example's' of that in the average entry of the Gundam franchise. Is Build out and out horrible? No, but outside of Grease, it just really hasn't been doing much for me. Might take a break from it to watch Black Sun, since that dropped recently and has my interest piqued. But hey, to give the plot some credit, the Sky Wall finally has some sort of real purpose, so there's that atleast. |

But even more there's also lies the deceptive power of humor, the troublesome nature of the joke content; If someone confronts a joke-teller, or speaking out against even mild forms of inappropriate behavior, there's a risk of being shamed for being over-sensitive and refusing to play along (phrases like "can't you take a joke", "you must be fun at parties"), the pressure to play along to avoiding social exclusion or ridicule as humor is also a form of social dominance. And this can send false feedback that any of those people, they can shamelessly get away from what they did due to normalizing those acts. |
I just finished watching Movie Wars Mega Max movie and I practically loved every single minute of the film and I can easily see why this is one of the best, if not the best, Kamen Rider crossover movies that has ever been made. Plus, I now know what Kamen Rider season/series I’m planning to watch next after finishing up on Den-O and it’s Fourze since I’ve already seen W and OOO and I've been meaning to watch this series at some point anyway.

Kamen Rider Saber - Trio of Deep Sin!
I may have forgotten this existed, but finaly got round to it. Pretty good, all things considered. Given the chance to breathe, it's very melancholic, with all 3 of the main cast given a chance to shine (less Rintaro though, his portion feels the most rushed). Do I understand what happened at the end? Ehhhhhhh about 40%. But I get the emotional point of it - Touma really did connect with that kid as his protector and dad and prove he does care about the "little people". Also icey Falchion looks cool. |
So I just finished Kamen Rider V3 it was pretty good. Feels like a more focused version of the OG and those last 10 episodes with Riderman was the shot in the arm needed what fantastic follow up.
