Modern anime is practically the last ten years for me, I was only really an active anime watcher until I was about 15/16 where I'd burnt through large chunks of the "classics" and "popcorn titles" and that is what really bridged me to "popular" anime which usually resulted in painfully pretentious and usually downright awful series which eventually killed anime for me.

Probably the big three examples of recent times of that shit is Attack on Titan, Durarara!! and Bakemonogatari. The last two especially are just hipster garbage and the only merit is showing off how hipster you are that you actually sat through that nonsense.

That's why you gotta get on Gundam 00 man. Pretty good show made in the last 10 years.

You didn't like Attack on Titan? I haven't seen the full series yet but from what I have seen of like the first 4 or 5 episodes its good. Asides from the story itself, I don't see anyone could hate AoT because it was made in the best possible circumstances for a manga based show.

It's soul destroyingly boring. Argue semantics around adaptations, season endings and all the rest but that doesn't change the fact that for whole episodes nothing of any value happened - I couldn't give you exact numbers, and wouldn't want too but from what I remember you had maybe two to three full episodes worth of plot in the whole season, the rest was exposition dumps and painfully dragged out action that hoped basic shock value could take the weight. Maybe it would if I was 12 but pushing twenty three I require a little more stimulation.

It tried to be an atmospheric mood piece but was simultaneously much too juvenile and too damn slow to achieve anything other than sending me to sleep.

yea Attack on titan anime i dropped the subbed in ep 4 and dub in ep one just could not get in to it. the manga on the other hand i am really like and the fact that i love show it work better as a manga. so i am hoping the 2 anime film that retell first and second halfs of the anime do it for me

Modern anime is hard for me to get into, mostly because I find a lot of the animation crappy, character designs seem to be recycled, and not a lot of the stories seem interesting. The only modern anime that I really like that came out in a slightly recent time is Sword Art Online. A lot of what I watch is just the old stuff because that's what I grew up on. Anything from the 80's-2009/2010 is what I enjoy the most, though the later 2000's are a little few and far between in series.
