I watched The Ace Attorney movie. I didn't understand anything because it didn't have subs but i enjoyed it all the same. It was just an awesome flick.

Just finished Oldboy. Great film, but isn't the masterpiece many say it is.

Re-watched the good old Blues Brothers for the second time since seeing it at TIFF. Needless to say, that movie is even better the second time around. :D

In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to watch The Thing (The original, not the prequel).
It's still pretty good. I enjoyed it.

I also accidentally gave the prequel some free advertising when it was released because I spoke of how good "The Thing" was the same day it was released, without remembering that the prequel was a thing :p

There aren't enough horror movies like "The Thing" that rely on characterization and an atmosphere of dread to convey fear. Instead we get "how many shallow pricks can a masked maniac kill?" or "how many different theologies can we use to make a supernatural villian?" and I hate those. The first because they felt too much on everyone being too stupid to fight back or call the cops and the second for making me want to scream at the characters about why they should call a Catholic Priest.

Heck, I can only think of 2 movies that fit the bill for what I like: The Thing and The Haunting. Both of the original movies, not the prequel or remake that Lewis and Doug hate respectively.

Something about horror movies that wears thin on me is the portrayal of endurance for violence's sake.
In real life, getting hit with a pipe will yield a nasty bruise. In an action movie, getting hit with a pipe will yield a bitchin' scar. In a horror movie, getting hit with a pipe will completely obliterate a skull. It quickly reaches laughable levels of violence just for needless and boring gore

I agree. I think the general populace agrees too, which is why the "Horror" genre soon got split into "Slasher," "Psycho," "Supernatural," and "Thriller/Suspense" genres.
I really hate how characters are portrayed in such movies, and how the movies only seem to care about a body count and jump scares rather than being an actual movie.

Saw The Evil Dead in movie club this afternoon. It's bad, really really bad. The camera work is shottie, the writing is terrible, the actors are hammy... and I loved every minute of it! :D
