Today's Questions from the TARDIS tin video is great. Michelle Gomez is delightfully bonkers! :lol

If you've been on the fence about plunging into the Big Finish audios I urge you to take advantage of this amazing offer and listen to the kind of stories the show should be striving for. |
Posting the short version since it's Christmas and family festivities and all that. Wasn't godawful but meh. Just because you admit to shamelessly ripping popular sci-fi off it doesn't make it any more acceptable Moffat.

Aside from Moffat doing his best The Thing impersonation? The ending was amazing. Old Clara, telling him no man could replace him. The perfect ending... And then Moffat went and ruined it by having it be another dream.
|
I liked it; it was nice to see a low-stakes Christmas special after the last couple. It's not one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever, but it was fun, had some good humor, and there were some nice emotional bits. I had my suspicions about the dream part, but I was totally taken in by the fake-out with Clara at the end. Better than some Christmas specials, not as good as others.
Glad to see Clara staying around; Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi have great chemistry together. Just maybe readjust the Doctor:Clara ratio next season. |
Merry Christmas to me! Jenna is back for all of series 9! :D

Ehhh, it was fairly good. The side characters were... well, Shona's the only one I can name you from the three, and she and Santa were good. Especially with Nick Frost playing him. The Brain Crabs, despite being a total ripoff of Alien (just because you admit you're ripping off stuff doesn't make it better...) were a threatening villain, and the ending... That would have been a great way to end Clara's story. Her and the Doctor finally coming back together and admitting how they lied to each other. And then Moffat ruins it all by making it another dream. I'd like to sledgehammer him in the face for that, but at least we have Clara back next series. I've grown to like her since Series 7. I'd give it a 6/10- not the best, but better than The Doctor, the Widow and The Wardrobe.

I don't want to watch a world where Osgood dies yet Clara is allowed to stay. Not that I'll stop watching. I just want to bitch about it.

Season 6: The War Games
I have to say, this holds up very well. It really doesn't feel like it drags, even if it's ten parts long. The part where Jamie and Zoe leave, though, is sad as anything modern Who can produce. I give this episode 8/10 |

Anyway, another wondeful Xmas special. Nick Frost was fantastic as Santa, but it was the episode's references and homages to Alien that really made it kick ass. So this is what happens if you combine Ridley Scott and Christopher Nolan. :lol Glad to hear Clara will remain as they did a fantastic job with her this season. They turned him from being my most hated companion into a top notch one. I hope the fantastic writing team from this season sticks around for the next. |

Mathison sure, but I hope no one ever contacts Frank Cotrell Boyce to write for Who ever again.

What did Boyce write? Because the only episode I thought was weak was Deep Breath. All of the others were great and far better than anything Season 7 gave us.

Into the Forest of the Night. And that was worse than pretty much every season 7 episode.
I also wouldn't care if the Kill the Moon guy didn't come back either. That episode kinda sucked as well. |

I thought the forest episode was really good. Sure, it wasn't the best of the season, but it was a fun and interesting episode. It was unique too.
Season 7 though, was really bad. That is why I bought the Complete Matt Smith Years set. I got it for less than what it would have cost me to buy S7 and the two specials on their own. |
I thought Rings of Akhaten and Asylum of the Daleks were the only REALLY awful episodes of season 7. There was a lot of average episodes, but ones like Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, The Crimson Horror, the Snowmen and (to a lesser extent) Hide and the Name of the Doctor were all excellent episodes.
As far as entire seasons go, 6 was way worse than 7. |
