More FFX. I'm enjoying the game the more I play. Right now I'm just travelling around a forest, fighting monsters and moving around the Sphere Grid. This is what RPGs are all about. Although two bosses in quick succession seems a little harsh!
That said, right now the characters I have are Tidus, Kimahri, Lulu, Wakka and Yuna and I'm already a little overloaded. Mainly because with Lulu's deal with all scenarios black magic and Yuna's ability to both defend/heal my team and kick ass with the Aeons, the rest of my team all feel a little pointless, I don't use Wakka at all. Sadly most of all though is not only is the voice acting atrocious, I don't even think the translation was done properly, with the way characters erratically jump from one personality to the next, scene from scene, with no sense of emotional ramifications. It has a lot of story and world building, but I find it impossible to care for any of it. |
I have just been playing Mario kart 8 wind waker HD and Tales of Xillia

I 100%ed everything with Lemmy and just used my favourite looking Kart and Wheels rather then actually good ones. You only need 1 Stars on all Cups for the Gold tires which is fairly easy (although I got 3 Stars on all Cups) and the Time Trials are pathetically easy. The only thing I don't have is the 10,000 Coins for the Gold Glider but me, my brother and partner play VS 16 races every night so we should get it soon. Anyway, I'm gonna rant now. Mario Kart 8 looks very pretty, play well, good new items and gimmicks and has EXCELLENT courses (probably the best set of 32 in the series' history) but almost everything else is ludicrously half-assed. I am amazed at how this is considered acceptable from a major game like this. The roster is objectively worse then Wii's when it comes to variety. MK Wii came out 6, almost 7 years ago. 9 Newcomers accompanied by nine cut characters and the newcomers are so much worse then those cuts it's not even funny. 7 Koopalings (all of which are fundamentally similar and can be represented by a single characer in Bowser Jr), Baby Rosalina (a slight remodel of Baby Peach who is an OC that literally nobody wanted) and Pink Gold Peach (Are f*cking with me?) VS Birdo, Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong (all of which have been staples for about 12 years), King Boo, Honey Queen, Dry Bowser, Dry Bones, Funky Kong and Wiggler? Come on Nintendo. A roster that more then half of is taken up by 7 Koopalings, 5 Babies and 2 Metal Recolors is just stupid for a Wii U and 9 cuts is just not acceptable for a next Gen game. I think its safe to say everyone expected better. Birdo is even alongside the other female characters who weren't cut (+ Wendy) on the Royal Raceway banners just to remind us how crap the roster is. Item distribution. People whined and whined about how Wii was too "Crazy" or whatever, but the distribution in 8 is just stupid. Basing it on how far you are from 1st makes it unfair for pretty much everyone who isn't 1st, 2nd or 3rd and what you can get in which place is BS at many points. I shouldn't be getting a Coin in 5th when my brother in 2nd has a Golden Mushroom. That should not be possible. I'm hoping a patch comes out for this because from what I've seen its pretty unanimous that their attempts to fix the distribution just didn't help, I often find that if you ever drop lower then 7th you'll be very lucky to hit even 3rd by the end of the race even if you continue the race flawlessly. Options. And by that I mean the fact that there is absolutely no Options/Setting Menu anywhere in the game. Anywhere. This is 2014, that is just insanely archaic. Related to this, the decision to put the map ONLY on the Game-pad is just too much stupid to comprehend. For a game's that's main purpose is Multi-Player, restricting the map to ONE player assuming that someone is using the Game-Pad instead of one of the other 5 or so possible controllers is ridiculous. And that's not even taking into account the fact that during a race you have to take your eyes off the screen to view it. Come on. In every other game they'd put the option to put it on the main screen or something but again, there's no options in the game. And last but definitely not least is Battle Mode. I mean, What the **** is with this? This is one of the most undeniably lazy and half-assed thing I have ever seen in a major video game. The fact that it was an afterthought is so painfully obvious that its just sad. Absolutely zero effort has been put into Battle Mode and its just pathetic. And those are the major ones. There are so many minor nitpicks that just stack up as you play. No Expert Staff Ghosts. No recognition for 3-Starring every cup. No way to check how many coins you have despite needing 10,000 to get the final Glider. Mario Kart 8 is massive fun and me and my friends have spent many hours on it, but it is impossible to not realize how many mistakes were made with this game. The thing is though, Nintendo will get away with it because they always do. The fanboys will always pretend like its the best thing ever and downplay any legitimate complaint as "trolling". Nintendo are starting to put in less and less effort with every game. As great as this game is, there is always this nagging feeling that it just isn't completely finished. I know it sounds like I hate the game, I don't, but it should have been better and there's really no excuse for why it isn't. It could and perfect. But its OK because now Nintendo are turning that insanely boring mini-game from SM3DW into a full game. Ugh. /end rant I'm still enjoying the game, but I'm very ready for Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Pokemon AR and OS and Hyrule Warriors to arrive. Then after that I think its PS4 time. |

I just can't get enjoyment out of FPSes, partially because I get motion sickness when I do. |
I love a good FPS, can't remember the last time I actually played one.

I'll never understand the deep hatred for Microsoft at all.
|
I bought a PS4 and am currently playing Tomb Raider. The game is pretty damn awesome outside of Lara having character shields to max and the lack of being able to actually crouch at will (really messes up the stealth mechanics).

I don't care enough about any video game brand to hate one :lol
The last FPS I probably played was Killing Floor on PC, that was a great online experience. Need to get some FPS for my PS3 really, but I'm also really tempted to download The Warriors as it's like seven quid on the PS market place. One of the best games Rockstar made in my opinion. Plus I just rewatched the movie, haha. |
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is coming out in September.
Super Smash Bros 4 3DS is coming out in October. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is coming out in November. Super Smash Bros for WiiU is coming out in December. And I want it all. And a lot of Figuarts. *Goes back to playing Persona 4* |
Despite Tomb Raider 13 not being overtly open world, it's the kind of game you can just get lost in. Especially when you revisit old locations, with new ways to move around, turning the familiar into something new and exciting.
I'm only about a quarter of the way through, but I am absolutely LOVING this game and it's only gonna get better now I've unlocked melee, something the game has sorely needed and I'm starting to get better versions of my weapons. Only real frustration now comes from the far spread of the checkpoints, exploration can leave you punished when one mistake lands you right at the start and the start being very far away. Plus, I guess because they aren't part of the main game, the platforming and puzzle solving in the Hidden Tombs is a lot harder than found in the core game and as such it becomes very frustrating and something I get stuck on for a while. |
Well I just 100%ed Tomb Raider. It was awesome as a whole despite there being points of frustration and Lara's ever invincibility when it comes not not dying. I do wish the enemies would respawn in areas though as there are trophies I still need that I did not learn about until I was right at the end of the game. Anyway, aside from the character shield thing and the lack of being able to crouch at will, this is by far the best Tomb Raider ever and its story was quite good. If I were to compare the game to make it simple, I would say this game is like Far Cry 3 meets Uncharted. Overall, I give it a solid 8/10. Oh, and I also love how you can change Lara's outfit and it actually stays changed even in the cut scenes.

Persona 4 Golden
Cast Off! Change Teddie! |
Whenever it feels like I'm getting into FFX, I'm assaulted by all out boredom again. I like travelling around, fighting monsters and getting new skills, that is what an RPG is to me but FFX is action light, talking heavy. There is nothing wrong with an RPG focused on its story, world and characters, honestly these days we could do with MORE RPGs like this but it's just so atrociously acted that I find it impossible to care about anything.
Yuna literally sounds like she is reading from a script, complete with pauses where she appears to be catching up with herself while Tidus regularly stumbles around, or audibly forgets his lines and these are our core duo. It just feels cheap, did they do the whole thing in one take without a single rehearsal? Could they not afford better actors? Or at least a better mixer who could work around what they have and try to polish and tighten it? Jesus. How can I care about these characters when they sound exactly like what they are, pre rendered bits of code with people reading lines of dialogue over the top? And yes I know, it's a ten year old game and holding it to the standards of modern games is not fair, but I'm just a little shell shocked myself I guess at how creaking and ancient this title feels already. Have games really come that far? Or is this just another case of Japan refusing to progress like they always do with their sentai shows? If that wasn't bad enough, I finally got a taste of Blitzball that the game wont shut up about and who...the hell designed this abomination? I LOVE table top board games, if I had friends I'd be playing them every day, but table top doesn't translate well to a video game when literally the only addition is animation. If I wanted to play a table top...I'd be playing it. We had competent sports games in the early 00s so I physically can't comprehend why they went with a structuring for this game that feels so broken and archaic. |
I've been level grinding like hell in Conception 2, i need to beat that boss chamber.
|
Just bought Fifa 12 for a quid off of eBay :lol I heard 13 and 14 were just worse versions of that one any way and as I'm not an active follower of the sport, it doesn't matter to me that it is like three years out of date or whatever. Should keep me happy until September any road, when 15 comes out which is supposed to rework the formula from the ground up. We'll see.

Anyway, played a few more hours. From one moment of pure boredom to probably the strongest moment so far, FFX is frustratingly inconsistent, but I guess you should never complain about moments of brilliance? Just wish for more of them... The attack on the Blitz Stadium was insanely fun but it only got more awesome when Maester Seymour entered the fray, religious overtimes aside, God that was badass. Shame his voice was completely ill fitting...just like everyone else, then. Likewise the whole twist of "Sin is Jecht" is really stupid, but that is probably the strongest acting we've actually seen in the game so far, dare I say I think Tidus may have almost felt an emotion in a conversation that almost sounded natural?! As an aside, how do you even win in Blitzball? I swear I haven't been able to land more than a handful of successful plays, and not a single goal, even when the stats are in my favour. It's so infuriating because even on manual the game is playing itself, and poorly. I think I could play it better, if it let me play... |
More Tomb Raider 13.
I know this game was basically a slasher film in game form but I wasn't expecting it to get THIS dark, Jesus. There are a few other developments I'm not so hot on, namely how Lara is only getting punished more but somehow seems to be taking less damage which really detracts from the stakes. That first wound was horrible and all, but considering you've fallen down like four mountains since, it seems weird that is the only wound you see as worth nursing. And yes I know there'd be no game if you could break your limbs or whatever but it tries to make you terrified, then takes all the terror away with its immortal, ungodly destructive protagonist who is supposed to be this "poor and fragile" girl. This Lara is more badass than other version and this is meant to be her damn origin story. I mean my GOD. Fire arrows, upgradable weapons, shotguns. I don't so much clear rooms, as orchestrate operatic carnage. It's ridiculous, completely ill fitting with the narrative but absolutely GLORIOUS to play. |
Yeah, that was my main beef with the game, Lara has character shields turned up to the max.
|
I started Diabolical box, i forgot this game had the longest prologue in the series.
|
Pac-Man World 2 is one of the greatest games ever.
WHO ELSE AGREES WITH ME?! |
Just "finished" the Shanty Town level in Tomb Raider and God I feel like such a broken record but this game is so great. "I grew up Glasga'!", shooting dynamite out of the air to kill your enemies, travelling through the decaying landscape towards the place, Roth covering you like an avenging angel with his sniper rifle, the set piece chase sequences just unf, this game is great.
|
More FFX.
Blitzball is so unfathomably broken that it's impossible to put down, even when the frustration is inducing migraines. With stats that make no logistical sense, a ridiculously convoluted game system that is only ever half explained and a mechanic that means the game always tips in the CPUs favour it's like a slot machine where you know you're always going to lose but you just don't want to believe it yourself. Letting in one goal every hour to give you a false sense of hope. In terms of the core game, spent an hour travelling through the wild fighting monsters, gaining new abilities and equipment. This to me is what an RPG should be and I'm disappointed these moments have so far been so few but they are always entertaining when they do happen. Shockingly for all his hype Auron kinda sucks but Wakka is surprisingly useful when placed alongside Lulu and their flirtatious banter is fun. |
I've been playing a lot of Mario kart 8 today, managed to get star ranks in mirror mode for the mushroom, shell and banana cups.

Started playing Max The Curse of Brotherhood since it was free on Xbox Live and its a pretty cool platformer. The visuals are nice and the game is haaaaaard. There were some puzzles that really liked to screw with my head :lol
I also finally got around to pickup Titanfall and its....GLORIOUS. That game is freakin great. Its fast, its fun and no teenagers that scream insults into your ear :lol |
I finished chapter 1 of Diabolical box.
|
Tried Dark Souls.
I am now done playing Dark Souls. |
VVVVVV
Yes, that's the title of the game. Its a fun little Indie platformer I've been playing since it was like $4 on the 3DS eshop. You basically manipulate gravity with the push of a button. I've been playing it for like 2 and a half hours and its a challenging game at points. The game mechanics are introduced very slowly but IO like how they introduce them. I'm stuck on an escort level where if I flip gravity back to normal, a buddy follows me. And he falls in spike pits. A LOT. Borderlands I'm stuck in the Dr. Ned DLC, as i ran away from the pumpkin boss, he followed me and I turned a few corners and he up and disappeared. The fuck? Now I have to exit the area and come back. Kid Icarus Uprising More achievements and weapon fusing... |
I spent the day playing Watch_Dogs. The first two hours were sluggish as I am not a fan of the lack of a jump button and it feels like driving on ice because the car slides all over the place, but for the most part, I have been having fun. Actually, in the 8 hours I played, I only did four story missions. I spent the rest of the time doing side missions like Gang Hideouts, Convoy Chases, dying, Crimes, and getting the collectible stuff. In fact, I've already maxed out all of my upgrades at this point and have 11 points waiting for the next batch to open up. I've collected more than $140,000 as well. That has been far more fun that doing the story missions. I absolutely love the Gang Hideouts as I've been having a blat just using all of the machines and stuff to take out the guards before I stealth my way through the rest of the goons. Graphically, it is good, but pales in comparison to what Ubisoft showed us at E3. It looks just as good as GTAV on the PS3, which is kind of sad considering this is the PS4.
I do have a question though, do I have to do the online hack stuff to get 100% completion? If so, that is going to cause a problem. |
Quote:
I've been trying to get the race achievement/progress, but it seems like nobody freaking does races. So that's a loooong wait. For single player, I've acquired all collectibles so am down to finishing off all of the side missions. Good lord do I hate convoy chases so much. But I've almost done all the gang hideouts and am halfway through the fixer contracts achievement. |
That's bs that I have to do online stuff to 100% the singler player.
