Need ALL OF THEM.

After Wärring with myself for years, I finally went Astray and bought a Gundam model.


...Now that the bad pun has sunk in, I bought a Sengoku Astray model yesterday (1/144 HGBF). I've had a rough history with model kits and swore off them about 10 years ago, but Build Fighters was so good that it made me want to try again. However, before I break into this thing I want to know more.

While I've done plenty of custom work on toys (ones bought assembled), I'd like to treat myself as a noob for models. So first thing I'd like is some good guides with a beginner's slant. More aimed at the building to make sure it doesn't break or fall apart.

The second thing is that while I already have plenty of acryl paints (many of the colors I need even), I've never been able match Bandai's awesome gold. The booklet tells me the Gundam Marker I need, but I can't read the Japanese. Could someone help me ID what marker I need?

So...anybody ever have this model kit and can tell me if it's good for a beginner such as myself? I already know I'd need a Gundam Marker for the panel lines, and I'd have to paint the scythe green. Just trying to find out as much as I can before I go ahead and buy it. No need in rushing into something I'm not too knowledgeable with.

1/144s are a great start for beginners.

I heard DS falls apart easily though. Is that a common thing with that kit or was the review I read just a case of bad QC for that one?

Could be either QC issues or something went wrong with the build for some people but a majority of the time it comes out fine.

Yeah, the Wing kits from 1995 aren't as complex as high grades you can today either.

So go after one or two of them for my starting point?

Sure, it'll be good practice for any future kits you may purchase.

Yeah, high grades or SDs are usually the best jumping on point.

Also, I'm planning on using this for panel lining. Just curious, how much ink is in one of these? Enough for just one kit or would there be enough to do a second one?

Ohhh, thats kinda cool. I'm not usually one for gun/sword combos but I love energy weapons.

Why is it green if it's a blade? And if it's energy, how is it serrated? Don't get me wrong, I love that he has a beam saber bayonet, I'm just wondering how it works. lol

So I discovered today that there's a hole on the bottom of the escape pod thingy for the K9 Unit, and another on the bottom of the K9 proper. Using that knowledge, the hole for attaching the sniper rife, and a peg/peg adapter, I came up with these:

So, does anyone here know what witchcraft is used to make the frame sprues for RGs? I'm puzzled as to how they could make parts that are already jointed on the sprue.

Well, inspiration has struck. I now have two different customs I have in mind.

I want to make a GM Bomb Disposal unit using these two kits.

And also a Jungle Fighter Ramba Ral Gouf R35. Basically a Gouf R35 with the Valuable Pack and a green/brown paint job.

I'm hoping they turn out good, and I will be modifying the Gouf in some ways. This'll be my first time modding kits and not just painting them, so wish me luck. lol

What's the difference between a Ver. Ka and a normal MG?

A Ver. Ka stands for the Katoki Version. Katoki is an artist who worked on different Gundam series, like 0083, V Gundam, Gundam Sentinel, G Gundam, and Gundam Wing.

Ver. Ka's are basically him updating the looks of those suits that he dealt with from those series. Even some he didn't.

So basically, just looks. Ver. Ka's in my opinion look a lot better.

I'm impressed with the level of complexity in the Unicorn, there's twice as many different pieces for the torso as a usual HG would have. And that's not even counting the full armor parts. This is going to be a long build...

I want to order from them but all of the kits from that series that I want say "backordered" and "august restock" (which its august right now...), so should I go to another website so I don't have to wait on this.
