Perhaps, but those themes were part of the problem!

The terrorist group which were responsible for the sarin gas attacks in Japanese subways around the same timeframe had beliefs which echoed 'ancient civilizations' and 'ancient powers' and Ohranger's tone change was somewhat symptomatic of the tragedy at the time (though I think they were also criticized for how they responded/reacted to it as well. Think of it, fatal gas attack in the real world and Bara Skunk's semi-comedic gas attacks in Ohranger. Not exactly the best mix)!

Maybe instead of: "Shin Goranger" Anno should shoot "Shin Ohranger"? He managed to add references to the Fukushima accident to Shin Godzilla, so here he could be more frank.

I doubt he would do Ohranger only because the Shin series seem to be revisions of stuff he worked on or enjoyed when he was younger. That said would be interesting to see him give it the Shin treatment given how the show had to be toned down due to real life events that year.

If he made Shin series for stuff he enjoyed, then expect Shin Hurricanger :lol

I did get Kyu on a Maylay set so due to Cosmic Fury I will watch
Kyu even though the US is doing a continuation of Dino Fury.
