Yeah, the Minipla look good in the combined forms, which is probably how a lot of people would display them anyway. If you want the individual mecha forms, Yu-Do looks better

I absolutely love the posability of Minipla. Seeing older robos like Jet Icarus in dynamic poses that their DX versions could only dream of is a real cool thing. I wish Yu-Do was the same scale as So-Do, but with these figures being robots, the size difference will be a lot more passable. |
Wasn't sure where to post this, but since it's relatable...
Does anyone have the Shinken-Oh Minipla sets? I am looking for the instructions on how to build the first 5 mecha. I bought a full set, but the boxes for the first 4 weren't included. I have tried many different searches to see if I could find something, and came up with nada. If anyone has them and could send me pics of them, that would be amazing. |

I’m planning on ordering it from ami ami, but do these kits sell out as fast as Figuarts ?
|
I think this one will due to the popularity.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be taking any chances for Gaoking and try and get a pre-order in when it goes up.

Train theme mecha are my favorite. I never picked up X-Emperor, but now I'm considering it. Great job on the build!

I just looked closely at the Zenkaiger minipla candy blog article, and I think it's the first time in years I've been unimpressed.
When I saw the DX mecha compared to the Change Hero(?) line, I wrote off the weird-looking robot forms for Gaon and Zyuran as the limitations of a DX line that has to include lights or sounds. I'd expected the minipla people to pull off their usual miracle of making a product superior to the DX in nearly every regard. Instead, these maintain the weird uni-leg of the DX mecha, and the arms also look pretty limited. Zyuran and Gaon already have dodgy-looking alternate modes, and the minipla version doesn't appear to improve on them. The article uses some camera tricks to make their flaws less apparent. I presume all this is in service of a superior ZenkaiOh ZyuGao mode, which they won't show off until their next article (next week?). I'd already preordered these through Tokucollectibles, and it looks like each of the first two sets include only two mecha, although there will be a combined set released, as well. I'd assumed when I placed my order for both that the first one would contain all four. Oof. My guess is that these are substantially larger than previous individual mecha in the minipla line so their combined mode will have a height somewhere near that of the combined mecha of previous years. I suppose we'll have to wait until next week at the earliest in order to see. |
Yeah I was in the same boat. Something didn't add up with how many Zenkaiger Minipla releases showed up at once.
The robot forms kill it for me, and despite the combined form looking really good, I'm more interested in a single combined mech, rather than 2 bigger mix and match ones. I'm waiting to see what else comes down the line, but the Yu-Do looks good! |

Our first look at the upcoming Super Mini-pla rebranding, or whatever:
https://twitter.com/candytoy_c/statu...57830473592832 A few people in the comments pointed out that it lines up with a recent Bandai trademark filing for "Shokugan Modeling Project" |
The first Zenkaiger minipla set showed up this week, and I've had it built for a few days. I'm kinda torn.
As expected, the hero and animal modes for Zyuran and Gaon are... not good. I was actually surprised by how bad the beast modes look. It's clear these have only been photographed from VERY specific angles. The candy toy folks weren't able to work their usual magic with these, so they're missing some articulation you'd expect: the arms for Zyuran and Gaon are on a swivel, with no elbows. Oof. The tyranno fore-claws aren't articulated in any way; they're just solid pieces of plastic. In their beast modes, getting the upper and lower teeth to line up is surprisingly difficult. Since I knew those modes would be disappointing going in, my opinion of this set was always going to be based on the combined ZenkaiOh form. Fully put together, it's good, although with flaws. Also, the "good" is somewhat qualified; it doesn't look its best without box 5's replacement parts: they make the feet practical, remove the arms sticking out of the chest, and give the robot a sort of waist (more like an ab twist.) The whole thing has, for the most part, the kind of articulation we've come to expect from Sentai minipla. The left and right sides hold together better than I'd have expected given how few pegs are involved. Where the articulation fails is the head: it's got good up-and-down movement, but the big side-horns run up against the teeth on either side, so left-to-right movement is very limited. The elbows run into a similar problem to last year's Kiramajin minipla, where the elbows face the robot's sides, but with the added challenge of the giant gauntlets/legs limiting what you can do. Once we get to the arms, we arrive at my biggest problem with this release: the shoulder connections are very loose, so the arms to fall off frustratingly easily. The gattai has some elements of proper, interesting transformation (rarely seen in recent Sentai!) and parts-forming. It's a shame, then, that this combined mode fails an important test: I find I don't much want to transform it. Neither of the other modes it can assume is appealing. From what I've seen, it looks like the DX mecha is *much* more fun to transform, and doesn't appear to involve much parts-forming. That lack of interest in transforming it, though, gave me a little freedom. Box 5 eliminates the need for the chest-arms, and I pulled the arms of the back off because they were pretty much just unsightly kibble. What I'm left with is a surprisingly cohesive (for recent Sentai) robot. It's not terrible. I'm interested in seeing how the ZenkaiOh VrooMagine turns out, and I'm very curious as to whether there will be any decent combinations that include more than two at a time. If you decide you want to pick it up *and* you want decent individual robot versions of Zyuran and Gaon, I'd recommend picking up the whatever-they're-calling-Yudo-this-year. |
Ah that's a shame to hear. I am really enjoying Zenkaiger and it took a lot in me to resist the Minipla. But yeah there were a lot of red flags and I guess I'm little relived I didn't end up picking them up. Probably best to give my wallet a break this year, especially as it seems like it's a year for Kamen Rider stuff.
We are getting GaoKing so I'll have Sentai representation on that front. Also if a new Zenkaiger robot is Train-themed, I will absolutely have to pick that Minipla up. I'll be looking out for the Yu-Do now. As much as I like the combined robot(s) this year, the transformed suits might be my actual favorite designs from the show. |
This is my first time posting on here. You all have some really cool pictures. Once figure out how to post my pictures I'll do so.

Looking forward to seeing your posts! I have X-Emperor coming in the mail, directly inspired by posts here, so be careful! Browsing all the cool minipla pics definitely makes you want them even more. |
Thanks for the warm welcome ShiShiLeo, I'll be posting some photos soon. This seems to be the only way I can post pictures, not sure why. Maybe someone can help me.

https://flic.kr/p/2kQXHM1 I don't think you can embed directly from Flickr. The URL you use for placing images, needs to end in an image file format like .jpg or .png. I use imgur.com to host my images. |
Okay, I'll try it out tomorrow sometime. Thanks ShiShiLeo

Is the Gogo V line available anywhere still? I don't want to pay almost $300 on Amazon just for Victory Robo..

Anyways, that's a nice collection. The only one we both have is Jet Icarus lol. The Gogo V bot looks awesome, and I kinda regret not grabbing it...but I haven't seen that series. The ones I REALLY regret not getting are Zyuranger. |
Thanks for your help, I'll try to remember what to do next time. Try Mandarake, that's where I got my sat from for 10,000 yen plus whatever shipping was. You might even be able to find other kits like Daizyujin there.

I would honestly wait for a Daizyujin reprint. The Shokugan Modeling Project made it clear that they would be revisiting older kits. With the popularity of Daizyujin, I can't see how it won't be re-released in some way. |

I think I'm going to hold out for now (partially because I don't need them that much but also partially because I might move within the next few months and want to save as much as I can) and hope that you're right about reprints down the line. I can definitely see it happening as well, it just makes too much sense. |
I keep looking for KishiRyuNeptune to be on his own & not with DimeVolcano, but all I can find is a set of them together. So I'm assuming that means there's no way to get Ryusoul Gold's Mecha solo, huh?

You best bet is yahoo auctions via a proxy. That's where I've seen the most individuals boxes or separated sets.

What a beast! Awesome stuff right there.

Can the DX toys do that, or is that just a minipla fan mode?
