Everyone's talking Gekiranger now. Speaking of which!
Gekiranger 10-12 More training! The Elephant Master is introduced. I honestly didn't expect him to appear past the episodes he was introduced in, so when he randomly showed up in the Bath-house in twelve, I was pretty surprised. I like this guy. Like Shafu, he seems to have a unconventional way of training them, but whatever works, right? Time for some Rio development. Didn't exactly go into his past more like I thought it would, but now Rio gets his own master. That's pretty rare honestly. Can't think of a show with a main villain who has to learn form someone else aside from Lost Galaxy. And this training isn't just any regular training...it's actually attempt to murder your pupil and absorb their misery training! Though, Rio's apparently something of a Rin Jyuken prodigy and overcomes Master Hawk's attempts to kill him and surpasses him...sort of. Gan is continuously looking to be a Geki Jyuken prodigy as well. Given that he can sense the same things the masters do. Master Hawk seems interesting like a foil to Shafu. I had to question how wise it was for Rio to keep him alive at first, but since he plans on killing him eventually, I guess he's got it all figured out. |
Decided to go and watch the entire series of Hurricaneger last week. Watching a few eps each day, currently up to 27.

Gobus 32.
I love how Gavan tries to act like the Gobus is a bad team and in the response the show tries to point out just how shit he is. Fuck you Gavan. The only reason I can't hate this episode is because my favourite sentai - Goseiger - was about 70% made of episodes that totally ignored what came in the past, while trying to pretend their teamwork sucked, so we could come to the same conclusion we already had about fifty times. At least this was the FIRST time Gobus has done it and hopefully the last. Hey look, its Gosei Knight's favourite place in the city! What...wrong show? I kinda forgot, since they stopped putting the Enetron towers in the establishing shots, despite it being literally the first thing you see in the opening credits... |
Oh neat! Neziranger retur-What? They're gone already?
...Oh. |
Watched the Gosei VS Shinken movie. Personally, I feel it could have been better but it could have also been handled worse. There was no "fanservice" scene with the girls like the past couple of VS movies I've seen (Deka VS Aba and Magi VS Deka) which would have been fun but it was a nice little romp through Shinkenger town.
And Kotoha was adorable and I see no issue with that. |
Finished Megaranger!
It was decent, but it had a boatload of problems, too. The main villain was insane (No, not all villains are insane), and stupidly petty to ridiculous levels. Their "Master" was a non-character other than needlessly forcing Gurail onto them and being a deus ex machina (Making the Neziranger forcibly fall back every time they were going to win). The rangers themselves didn't fare much better. They each had a one sentence description for their character and that was about it. Their character episodes helped expand them (Somewhat. Miku and Koichirou were stiff as boards), but immediately after, they're back to normal. Shun learns to be compassionate towards others? Next episode he's back to being a smug asshole. Kenta learns that not every problem can be solved by screaming louder? Next episode his mouth opens wide enough to be a new world record. It goes on and on. Yusaka wasn't on the same boat, but he had his share of problems, too, being too perfect. Every other episode he appeared was displayed a new talent (Offset that there were multiple episodes where he was absent, making it tolerable). Harping on the effects of a late 90's toy commercial would be like kicking a dog after it fetched the ball. The overall design was hit and miss. The mecha were lovely. This series is making me want another Mega Voyager :lol The others were great, too. Galaxy mega looked amazing and the Delta Mega and Mega Winger, while not as good as the other two, weren't bad. The ranger suits were nice. They're different, but still interesting to look at. I liked the screen on their head, above their normal visor. The monsters, on the other hand...Sometimes, you'll run into an amazing monster, like the Lion Nezire. Other times, you end up with something like the Canary Nezire...I know 51 episodes = 51+ monster suits, but still, some were just down right terrible. Speaking of monsters, I loved the Neziranger. They were everything I was hoping for, which is to say, the Psycho Rangers with cooler voices :lol They were awesome, and just as insane as I like it (Well, Nezi Blue, was). I didn't like how little they got to do, not even being around for 10 episodes, but their presence is certainly one that won't be forgotten. It's unfortunate. They had so much potential for all different kinds of stories, but it didn't amount to much beyond what Hinelar had planned... Oh well. The action was nice (Though some mecha fight scenes around the middle devolved into "Token punch -> Finisher," much to my annoyance), and the characters were all likable to a point (*Looks at Miku*...To a point...), and they played off each other well (Though, it worked better for dramatic arcs, since the comedic arcs tended to fall flat). We don't talk about the crepes... Anyway, dodgy effects aside, Megaranger was pretty nice. |

It was most definitely not here. I despised how completely stupid the Psycho Rangers sounded because of whatever editing they did on their voices. |
