Yeah, that one.

The fan subber version I watched cause major confusion since Elder Kai mention Beerus being awaken after 39 million years when it's just 39 years.

I honestly don't see where soo much hate is coming from. It's a new continuity, BOG and RF are no longer "canon" and get over it. Not everyone has seen the movies and some people didn't even want to. Be happy that there is more Dragon Ball and not some fans making their own series like Dragon Ball AF.
I'm just not seeing the hate, ya I liked battle of gods, but I also see the great ways this show can go too. |
I dont think the hate is necessarily coming from them redoing the movies but more that it seems kinda lazy to have to whole arcs be a retelling of stories we have already seen.

And they probably aren't even going to make them all that different, it'll be little things here and there that don't seem like much but when added up will paint a rather different picture. It's uninspired and lazy to tell the same story twice so soon. I am happy there's more Dragon Ball, but that nostalgia doesn't make Super automatically free from criticism. |
I'm just not a fan of being sucked into something by being told one thing, "hey these new movies? They're cannon with the TV shows and make GT irrelevant! They're the first movies that will be considered cannon with DBZ!" Then immediately after a new series is launched (entirely based upon the popularity and exposure of said movies) these same movies are written out of cannon with new stretched out versions of their stories being the bulk 2/3 of the brand new show that owes it's existence to them in the first goddamn place. It's ridiculous and I think people should be mad about it.
Am I excited for more Dragonball anime? Sure. Always have been always will be. But this is where I have a problem with it. Because Toriyama, the great man god himself is working on this project no one seems to care how willy nilly he's being with continuity. About him just picking and choosing elements to keep or throw out. Nor do they seem to care about getting a rehashed story told in an episodic format that we already saw once in movie form. Only this time the movies don't even count anymore. But their cannonicity is what made them important and relevant in the first damn place. But again because it's Toriyama people seem to turn a blind eye and except the show as is without criticism. And demand that those of us with critiques of the show just get over it. So no I won't be getting over it or "be happy" about it. I'm rightfully pissed that what was a pretty great rebirth of the franchise has been snuffed out in favor of an elongated and alternate version of the same events. I'd be fine with it if it was simply a retelling, but it's not. It de-canonizes the movies it's based on. So what was the point of them in the first place? End rant. |
Again, I just don't see the big deal here. I'm preferring Super over the movies at this point because there is room to expand on elements of the movies. If I remember correctly seeing a review that said SSGSS did not get shin being achieved or Friezas Training. In this show we can see how all this is achieved, build up to the next universe, and continue for however long Toriyama wants to take the show. Exploring the other various universes, and just seeing where our favorite characters go on these new journeys.
Just because the movies were popular means nothing, so far we are seeing more of Beerus and how he acts. I'm again just not seeing what's truly wrong here. |
