The Tomodachi life stage had a really low blast zone I didn't remember and I got killed by it trying to K.O. you off lol

So it seems whatever was causing the bad online connections has resolved itself seeing as Powerman and Matrix were able to have matches.

It'd be nice to have a full online match again. I don't get why the connection was bugging out so badly during my last few rounds.

3 players increases the chances of connection issues due to having one bad apple in the bunch, though :lol
