... but I'm also fully aware that Riders use similar or the exact same transformation system so you have Riders who do look similar. In the case of Zero-One there's Vulcan & Valkyrie or Jin & Horobi for example.

You still have a much more diverse range of suit designs here than a Sentai team has. Which allows people to pick favorites and only buy those, where as in Sentai - if you dislike one suit you basically dislike them all. Maybe that's closer to the actual problem? Maybe people would buy entire teams, or at least be tempted, when they like 3/5 and then buy the other 2 for completion?

Whatever the reason, I do think the poor sales are at least a bit based on how most Sentai teams were basically the same suit except for different heads or stuff like skirts.

If you are Bandai making a full SHF team of a sentai team how many of each unit do you manufacture?

Obviously you make more Red than the others, but do you make the other 4 (or more 5 or 6) in equal amounts? What if one of them is notably more popular than the others (like Kiramei Green currently is for Kiramagers)? Then you get people struggling to complete the full set making the total buy-in price for the full team just too expensive for a show that skews towards kids.

The money for Sentai toys has always been in the "narikiri" or "dress up" toys. The bulk of the SHF Sentai toys came from Akibaranger and Gokaiger because they are legacy properties that celebrate nostalgia, marketing to adult collectors with the income to afford Figuarts.

I remember the ToQger action figure line that only had the boys, and I'd just rather not have them bother with figures at all if they are only going to do the guys. At least we are getting Yu-Do and Shokugan figures of complete teams lately.

Well only Red and Six would be retail, the rest Web-Exclusive and thus made to order anyways :lol

The thing with Riders is that like... hm, how do I put this.

If you're not a completionist, right? And you just want the main title character to represent the series, no other secondaries and later heroes yadda yadda; just what you have at base as the big symbol of the series? You get the Main Rider's main form. You get Rising Hopper, you get Rabbit/Tank, you get Mighty you get Sword Form you get Tatoba.


The equivalent to that for Sentai is a full team of 3-5.



Even when they're there at the start, a secondary rider is never like, just a part of a team. Even in stuff like Blade and Ex-Aid and Hibiki where you do have Riders working together right from the get-go, it's really not the same thing as Sentai. In Rider, each hero is their own individual before they're a part of a team. In Sentai, each hero is part of the team before they're their own individual. Sixths and extra heroes breaking those rules notwithstanding.


I mean, like, just look at how most collectors view it even. When it comes down to Sentai or PR figures coming out, it's always constantly "oh I hope they make the others soon so I can complete the team", and with Rider it's like "god I'm loving Vulcan and Horobi right now more than I thought I would, I think I might pick them up after all". It's not like there's not overlap here and it's not like the opposite scenario won't happen; where you'll definitely get people who'll only want RPM Black or ShinkenPink or MMPR Blue, or people that will refuse to have anything less than the main form of all riders in a given show. But that happens a lot more rarely than the other way round.

Wait Kyoryu Red sold terribly? And Kyoryuger was the most popular recent Sentai (regardless of what you think about it). No wonder they abandoned it during ToQger.

But honestly if they are redoing it, only ZyuRanger and Gokaiger will be made.

Main Sentai SHF I'd want would be Zyuoh Eagle and/or Whale, and... yeah, that's never happening.

I'm just glad my Top 2 Rangers were made, even if I was never able to get the ZyuBlack due to how stupidly expensive he got on the aftermarket.

Zyuoh The World, Lupin Yellow, Gaizorg - I would buy a few Sentai Figuarts for sure.

There are some cool monster designs I would love to see as figures too, like Zamigo Delma for example.

We're likely going to be getting Gaisorg in Lightning Collection next year when Dino Fury starts anyways.

Actually, it kinda makes me wonder, since Takara Tomy buys Transformers molds off of Hasbro to sell in Japan, do you think they could do the same for the PRLC?

I'm not sure how badly he sold but it was definitely to the point where he was on sale for very cheap. That's how I got my replacement one when the wrist peg on mine broke. Haha.

yeah, almost all of the Sentai figuarts can be gotten for cheap on Mandarake. I think the only set that held value was Zyuranger but then again I haven't checked aftermarket prices for Sentai Figuarts in awhile.

More so the reception, would the collectors go through all the trouble of importing these figures to have them in 1/12? How would they react to a line of noticeably different quality and size from the higher end collectors item they are used to? I haven't seen any Toku toy reviewers do any LC stuff since it came out.

They could, but I don’t think Hasbro would want to go up against Bandai who in turn are working with Toei.

Gotta say, the line continues to make each release's predecessor look really poor in-comparison. Original SHF Den-O was so lanky and weirdly-proportioned.

The armor-swap ability also feels very nice once you actually remove the parts necessary. Everything clips in but not too tightly and the head is actually on a sliding clip at the base of the neck, so you can't just pop the head off. You need to slide it out of its track after taking off the chest armor.

I'd say the only downside to its structural stability is that one of the thigh panels can loosen and fall off when you move the leg, but it's not falling off just by looking at it so I'd say overall this was a success in terms of adding a form change gimmick to this line.

Personally, I'd love if they'd offer the eventual Rod/Axe Form set both as an SS release and as an add-on set like Beast's mantles for people who don't want multiple Den-Os but would like the armor, weapons and any specific hands that go with those forms. It sounds like easy money to me. They most likely won't do that, but it'd be nice.

I just realized you can't close and open up the ForceRiser in the SHFs of Jin, Horobi, and 001 because the Progrise Key can't close up too and that means I won't be able to make any "finisher" pose with them. Yeah, I can pose them about to use the finisher, but I wanna make it authentic.

I'm expecting SS Ryuki to just come with his Sword, Dragredder's head, and the shields. And then Dragredder will be their own SS Release (7000 yen-ish P-Bandai maybe)

If anything, I expect the FRS Ryuki to come with Dragredder instead.

I think they will omit Mirror Monsters altogether. Packing them with the Riders would make the figures too expensive and I doubt they'll bother releasing them on their own.

What we will get are the accessories made out of them, like Ryuki's Strike Vent or the cape on Knight, but full on articulated Mirror Monsters aren't going to happen IMO.

The robes bug me. Literally no pose that shows that he can lift his legs out to the side. Which gives him the same issue that Cronus had.

On the topic of Ryuki, it’s difficult for me to see them not making Dragredder, though he’s almost certainly gonna be a separate release. It’s just far too icojic and popular; it’s like having Blade without his swird but even worse.

We might also see Darkwing, but that’s as much as we’d get imo.

I guess the could reuse the Mirror Monsters from the original? But SS tends to reproduce everything so having an original Dragredder alongside an SS one would look a bit odd probably.

But yeah the probably will omit Dragredder since the 20 Rider Kicks edition omitted it, and I feel like the primary reason the did the Mirror Monsters in the first place was to one up the Figma Dragon Knight so that consumers would focus on Figuarts more.

Regardless I doubt we're getting SS Ryuki anytime soon. They probably wanna tackle the obviously flawed ones like Fourze and Faiz first.
