People need to clam down for the R rated Batman v Superman director's cut. If they had done this to the theater release I'd agree that it would be stupid, but it's just for home video only.

I've been following DC since I was a wee lad and I see this issue two ways.

Dan Didio cannot run a company, pure and simple. His obsession with making things as dark and depressing has cost the company money and in a age where comics will never make the green they made years it makes no business sense to keep him where he is now. So while having a R- Rated Superman movie seems like an insult do keep in mind the MCU, for better or worse has changed how comics are written these days.

DC only has Batman as their biggest name, unlike Marvel who has a good chuck of characters the general public knows about. To put in simply Didio isn't fit for his position and the R-rated cut is yet another highlight on his questionable practices.

Also while it's highly doubtful Superman will become an overly dark and grim setting it's important to remember the character's over 75 years old at this point. Sometimes it's good to stray off the beaten path and see where it takes the audience. Also having two cuts of BvS may end up a good thing in the long run, although I will concede with Paladin and state that Zack Snyder's needlessy grey vision isn't going to fly as well since the MCU has proven that yes; people like color and not feeling like human garbage all the time.

That isn't strictly true. "Superman" is about as household name as you can get, irregardless of the quality recent comics and/or adaptations.

True; Superman is a big name that everyone knows about. It's just that he isn't as well know as Batman is what I was trying to state.

I finally got around to watching last night's Arrow. While I'm ecstatic to see them expanding the roster to characters like Vixen, Megalyn Echikunwoke's acting sadly hasn't gotten any better since she was the worst thing about The 4400.

I definitely have to give the actors credit for managing to stand around with their serious faces on while she sniffed that Flash action figure. I'd love to see the outtakes for that bit. :D

The Constantine shout-out was a nice touch, too.

Trying something new is not the problem. Making things dark for the sake of it is. The reason Superman and Batman work so well together is because they are exact opposites. One is dark and grim, the other is colorful and heroic. There is no reason to fix what ain't broke, and their tones are not broke.

That's because DC won't actually take anything else seriously. They could easily do several characters with several different genres. The Question would make for a perfect Film Noir. The Spectre would make a great grindhouse horror film. Dr Fate be a super natural thriller. Do a horror anthology with the House of Mystery and House of Secrets. Make an actual Jonah Hex western. Sgt Rock could be a WWII drama. Black Lightning as a blackploitation film.

They have characters that could fit every genre.

I know DC has characters that can fit into other genres, but like you I've grown worn out by the overt Batman focus and more than anything I just want something new and fresh. If everytime I post something people are going to "correct" me then yes, I can take the hint that my opinions aren't worth much to you. I'm sick of being told I'm wrong all the damn time.

Well we have a M rated Batman game, so a R rated solo Batman movie could be possible. The original Batman Year One was script was close to R rated before Warner Bros ask to rewrite it. While I don't like the idea of a R rated Batman movie, it won't surprise me if it does happen in the future.

I don't mind an R rated Batman...as long as it's handled well.

It's like the people that are all like, "OMG, did you see that Power Rangers fan film? That is exactly what they need to do with the movie!!" They just completely miss the point of what grown ups in rainbow colored spandex fighting monsters is.

Anyway, tonight's Legends was an all right episode. It felt very rushed as if they originally wrote it to be a 2 parter and then cut it down to one. This is easily the weakest episode of the season so far and the editing was horrible, especially with Heatwave. Doesn't matter though, because that is one more episode closer to when we get Jonah Hex.

@Dr. Kain: Sorry; kinda overreacted to your post. It's been a long week and honestly even if DC got their act together at this point they'll be busy catching up for quite some time.

At the very least the Lois and Clark book is good. Pity it may have gotten axed by the Rebirth reboot.

With all this talk about DC Rebirth, I really hope DC brings back Terry as Batman Beyond in the comics. Still not really enjoying Tim Drake as the current Beyond.

Batman Beyond is listed to be part of the rebirth, so I bet this is what they are doing.

Well, everyone knows it's going to be a financial success. That was fairly obvious since it's fucking Batman.

I'm not buying advanced tickets at all. If I go to see it, I will get the tickets the morning I go to the theater.

Finally caught up on Supergirl and damn, those last three episodes were great. The editing felt off in the "For the Girl Who Had Everything" episode, but the next two were fantastic. I love that she just instantly forgave Alex instead of spending an episode moping about it. The female Brainiac was pretty cool although of course they had to turn Brainiac into a girl, because heaven forbid Supergirl fight a powerful male. Speaking of female villains, holy crap, that bitch is going to become Silver Banshee!!!! I can't wait to see her transform into the villain!!! Man, I really wish the BvsS looked to be as fun and enjoyable as this show is. I also can't believe there's only like 5 episodes left already.

Indigo/Brainiac 8 is a real female DC character, they didn't gender swap Brainiac so that Supergirl would have a female equivalent to fight in the TV series. She was created by Brainiac 6 to help Brainiac 1 and was both a hero and villain (if I remember correctly, she kinda had a split personality: Indigo - good, Brainiac 8 - evil). She was a part of Arsenal and Nightwing's Outsiders team.

In the episode they mention her being called Brainiac 8 and that she is a Coluan.

Man Young Justice Season two was brilliant. Why do we not have a season three yet? I need, MORE. Im on a DC kick given I just binge watched S2 a couple days ago.

Cause Cartoon Network is run by a bunch of idiots.

Because the show was canceled after season 2 just like every other Greg Weisman show.

Apparently there's a rumor, from the showrunner or someone up there, that Netflix is watching the viewing figures on the service and may commission a third series if they think it will be worth it.

I need some recommendations from early on in Batman's career. Like right when he's becoming Batman. I already have Year One, so basically one that could theoretically take place after that.

My goal is to read Batman in order to the best of my ability. Like, I could hop around reading all of these stories, but I want to see where all these characters come from instead of just picking up a book and seeing "welp there's Nightwing, there's Red Hood, and there's Catwoman."

i think the next big stories after "Year One" for Batman are "The Long Halloween" followed by "Dark Victory." They're both decent enough.

A lot of people seem to suggest Monster Men, so I might try to track that down. If not, The Man Who Laughs is up next. Most of the ones between Year One and TMWL are out of print.

So I watched Man of Steel today for the first time since seeing it in theaters and wow, just wow. First off, there is just way too much CGI going on. The fight scenes look like they were ripped right out of Injustice Gods Among Us. Not to mention they freaking CGI's Superman's cape half of the time. WTF? That is nothing but pure laziness. The narrative of this film is a total mess and the flashback scenes feel completely forced in and random. Also, the tone of the movie is way too dark for Superman. He's supposed to be colorful and yet, everything is so dark and dreary. Oh, and the stuff on Krypton is extremely rushed. The only positives include the acting (well, most of it), the soundtrack, and that they didn't just make up powers as they went along to retcon things. Overall, I thought this was worse the second time around so my score is dropping from a 7 to a 6/10. It's not very Superman-like and feels the way Superman would be if he were living on the earth that The Watchmen reside in. Well that or the Crime Syndicate. Lastly, good god, that moment with the parent being pissed because Clark saved her son and then his dad telling him he should have let the kids drown is so damn stupid.

I liked Man of Steel and felt like the darker tone suited it. Of course, it wasn't perfect, and at times I felt like I was watching a live action Dragon Ball Z movie. I'm not sure how much I'll be re-watching it, but it was a fine setup for BvS.

As for the comics thing, I decided I'm just going to go Year One -> Man who Laughs -> Long Halloween -> Dark Victory -> Robin/Batgirl Year One -> Killing Joke and then just grab whatever tickles my fancy from there.

Superman is not supposed to be dark and dreary though. He is supposed to be hopefull and colorful. Not an ass either. That is why he and Batman work so well together, they are two different tones. It wasn't a fine set up for BvsS though because it was intended to have another Superman sequel first. WB just decided to scrap it and rush into JL.

Like I said, I didn't think it was a great movie...but I did think the darker tone worked. I'm not a terribly huge Superman fan though so take that into account.
