Gokaiger 4.
From a storytelling perspective, it makes sense to do it the "normal" way and have the audience and the heroes all start at the same place but honestly for my personal tastes I really love that the Gokaiger are already an established bunch of characters, and the audience has to catch up with them. It just makes the plot beats feel that much more believable and makes the show feel more thoughtout. Although I am a little disappointed that we only ever got hints about Joe this episode though, and no actual visual flashbacks. I mean I know we only got hints about Marvelous too, but that scene of him AkaRed surrounded by fire was really awesome. That said, as a pure cock tease, this episode did its job. I am interested to learn who Joe's master was, considering that he flipped the fuck out after his master was shit talked. I mean that was really his first emotions in the show, up 'til this point, he'd just stood around smirking and trying to be cool. I mean he REALLY lost his composure. As I've said I just love this team, they have a great dynamic, and they feel so unique from the other teams I have watched for great effect. Especially after coming off the back of Gaoranger, with a team so bound in sentai cliché that their team just didn't work at all. It's the little things, like how Marvelous let the kid use a Gokai Change because it may have been harsh, even dangerous, but it was also the best way to get the point across. And like in this episode, everyone let Joe have his way, they didn't need to soapbox him about teamwork, friendship and all the rest. Minus Ahim, the Gokaiger's realise that teamwork isn't about wiping one another's arse. You just wouldn't normally see this in sentai, which usually tries its hardest to be as safe and politically correct as possible. One again, some great action. Aw yeah Jungle Fury! I mean Gekiranger... Joe's five sword style was just pure insanity, especially that Final Wave, holy shit. That said, what is with the suit actors in this show? Ahim's like a third of Luka's size when they transform, from all the other scenes they look the same height. Honestly Ahim's suit actress is so small, she looks like a dwarf or small child, it's just really distracting. I get that they'll be height discrepancies in an adaptation but these fights were made for this show specifically, so was it that hard to get the heights right? |

You find out who Joe's master is later, with flashbacks, so don't worry...they don't drop that plot point. |

To be far I think Dairanger was horrible. Love the characters but story ends shitty. |
