I'll still always take OT and their practice to try and translate everything best they can rather than TVN who go 'oh well there isn't a direct translation we'll just leave it then and add some cute animations to it instead'.

While it is inevitable to pick up basic terms like "Nii-san", it just feels like some subbers assume I know more than they think (This is more prevalent in anime subs, which leave an abundance of Japanese terms in), especially since translation notes aren't always present (For example, one anime gave me a translation note for "Aniki" right off the bat, but didn't for "Aibou", which I only learned later thanks to TVN's Kabuto sub (And subsequently forgot, meaning that, should a show leave "Aibou" untranslated, I'll be left shrugging and hoping context will help me remember :lol). |

Also, if they're worried about translating it into something that wouldn't make sense... why then leave it as something we cannot understand? Also, why then do they do, well, what they did in Ryuki when that girl is talking about her "Onee-chan", which obviously means brother. I know this because when other people say "Onee-chan" they actually translate it as "brother." It's inconsistent and lazy. |

Kiva 40 and 41
Speaking of translation issues, the sub on Kiva is refusing to translate mother or brother anymore when they did so a few episodes prior. It doesn't bother me too much, but it's noticeable in the subs. Well, whatever... I think douchery is like some sort of hate plague in Kiva. Kengo, being humbled, lost it and now the full strain has passed onto Shima. Thankfully, Nago has IXA back though. Nice to see the three monsters (I've gotta think of a better name for them) all think of Otoya as their friend now and are willing to die for that. Or get turned into weapons, whatever. Even though, I know they'll be sorta alright (and suffer twenty years of boredom playing cards), it was still sad to see 'em get taken down by King. I think Sagarc is like a UFO thing though. A snake themed one, seeing as Taiga just summoned a bunch of giant sagarc snake flying saucer things. |
I think those 3 are called the Arms Monsters.

"Oh if we try and translate this it might be inaccurate and make no sense...so we'll just leave in a word that has no meaning to the English speaking audience at all...I mean they could decipher the meaning from the translation even if isn't 100 percent accurate but fuck that cute animations yay!" Episode 6 of Amazon, where our Rider has already started befriending banished monsters.
I love how Amazon's so badass he doesn't kill the monsters half the time, he just rips them to shreds and then sends them back to Gedon who finishes the job in a blind rage. |
