OH! I thought they were legit filming their own entirely original stories. I'm kind of disappointed that they are not now.

It depends on the season as to how "Original" you wanna be, but yeah, generally the non-suited stuff plus some suited footage (the zord interiors, shots with the some actors demorphed) is all new, with the fight scenes intersersed but recontextualised (as much as you can recontextualise 'spandex heroes whale on villain").

EDIT: Oh! There are a couple of wholly original footage stories - I think both tie Dino Charge and Ninja Steel openers were purely New Zealand based.

As for Orion vs Gai, ain't it interesting how Gai is the only human on a team of aliens, but Orion is the only alien on a team of humans?

I faintly remember these two shows, possibly because I was watching the corresponding sentai shows during the years in which they aired so when the Power Rangers adaptations rolled around, I remembered looking them off. Ninja Steel stoked my ire though, as I was/am a significant proponent of a specific Hurricanger ship, and I was affronted by what they turned episode #30 of the original show into. :p

Most of the recent actors are American who get shipped out to New Zealand, since that's still cheaper to do than base everything in the US.

The series does typically feature things like that. Granted, not usually to some highly dramatic degree, but it's there. Based on what you've said, the few shows that pop to my mind immediately are Lightspeed Rescue, SPD, and Beast Morphers.

That said, one bit of advice I'll give, and I know it's alot harder to do with some seasons than others, is to try to disassociate whatever seasons you do end up watching from their Sentai counterparts. It can really distract from the experience, I've found. Interpret that however you wish.

In Space, much as I love it, is very much a season that relies on you having been with the show since the beginning, so I can easily see why anyone watching it without that context wouldn't get much out of it.

I went to put it on earlier only to find Netflix has removed all their older Power Rangers shows, which is so frustrating. Hopefully these turn up again soon somewhere so I can get onboard and watch them!!
