I have some Power Rangers nostalgia, but only for the first 2.5 seasons or so. MMPR nostalgia helps me enjoy Zyuranger more than I would otherwise, but I don't think Zyuranger is one of the better Super Sentai series I've tried (only watched maybe 6 or 7 episodes of Zyuranger).

I got into Super Sentai because one of my friends got into Gokaiger and insisted I try to watch some. When I finally relented, I ended up watching Shinkenger and Gekiranger in like 3 weeks. Now I'm hooked.

Grew up on DT and SPD when they were the current seasons, so I get a nostalgic kick out of Abaranger and Dekaranger due to the use of the footage/designs(Saw Aba and working through Deka); I also grew up with some Sentai too so it was involved as a part of my childhood.

I'm practically on the same boat myself years ago. Was interested in Super Sentai due to the use of their footage in Power Rangers and that series is a huge thing for me especially during the Mighty Morphin - In Space era. Zyuranger is the very first Sentai series I checked out and currently one of the only Sentai series I watched in its entirety along with Dairanger, and oddly enough, Jetman and that's mostly due to reading about this series on Wikipedia as well as having a very good tribute episode in Gokaiger. Was very well in my way into Liveman (also due to a very well done tribute episode in Gokaiger), Kakuranger, Megaranger, Gingaman and Gokaiger and several other series, despite of not making much headway compared to these five series, though I ended up stopping because of stuff that's going around at the time though in the case of Kakuranger, Megaranger, and Gingaman, I ran out of subbed episodes to watch during that time. It's safe to say that I am now more or less back to watching Super Sentai again and this time I'm also planning to check out some Kamen Rider and even one series of Metal Heroes due to the use of their footage in Masked Rider and VR Troopers and in one or two cases, positive word of mouth. Just found out the other day that Metalder and Kamen Rider Black RX (will watch Kamen Rider Black as well due to the former is actually a sequel series to it) are officially subbed in their entirety along with two standalone KR movies on which some of its footage was also used on Masked Rider which in turn is very good news for me. Maybe none? I thought it would feel redundant to watch a Sentai season and its Power Rangers adaptation.

I first planned on watching Super Sentai when we weren't going to be getting more Power Rangers, watching the seasons that wouldn't be adapted. When I was finally about to start, it was announced that we were getting more Power Rangers, and I cancelled those Sentai viewing plans.

A couple years later, and dissatisfaction with Neo-Saban along with not knowing how long it would take to get to Power Rangers adaptations, I started watching Super Sentai, anyway. I started working my way backwards and, after a little while, jumped to Jetman. That and Liveman were the two seasons that stuck out to me, looking at suits and mecha when I first looked up Super Sentai online, nearly 16 years ago.

I've seen a lot of people saying interest in Zyuranger is what got them started on Sentai. It held the least interest for me. I was going to put it off for even longer, but I've watched it.

After seeing numerous seasons, I feel foolish for thinking it would feel redundant to watch a Power Rangers adaptation and its Sentai source. I find it interesting to learn things I didn't know, but I don't think I feel nostalgic. They feel more compartmentalized than I thought was possible. I saw a Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers DVD set in the store while I was in the middle of Kakuranger, and my first thought was, "Hey, Alien Rangers!"

None really. I personally stop watching PR with Turbo or In Space. I did return with Dino Thunder in 2004, but stop again. In 2012, I started to get into Kamen Rider and Super Sentai when Super Samurai was airing.

None, really. I don't really have much nostalgia for PR series beyond Turbo, In Space, and Time Force. So when I watch a Sentai that I've seen the PR version of, I don't really connect the two and the nostalgia goggles allow me to enjoy it more than I would. I still find Megaranger to be painfully unmemorable and Dekaranger to be just...Average.

When it came to getting into Sentai in the first place, well...Shinkenger was the first I tried, and that was while it was airing, so I didn't have any real nostalgia for it.

I grew up on Power Rangers, but I have surprisingly little nostalgia for it. Because despite being deeply, deeply obsessed with it since it debuted when I was in 3rd grade, part of me always hated the show in equal measure (honestly, I feel like if I didn't hate PR a little bit, I wouldn't have become nearly as obsessed with it-- so much of my obsession is rooted in imagining all the ways it could've been better... if that makes any sense).

As a youngster, I'd fantasize about a parallel world where Power Rangers wasn't just watered down pablum for American toddlers. Being half-Japanese, I always knew that Power Rangers was based on a Japanese show, but it wasn't until I got the internet in 6th grade that I discovered all the nuances of Sentai. And I was stunned to discover that Sentai provided a window into the alternate universe I longed for since Power Rangers debuted. The fantasies were real! The Power Rangers concept, when treated with respect, really could be as satisfying as I always imagined.

And after discovering Sentai, I kinda dropped Power Rangers and never looked back. It's been so long since that happened that I think I probably have more nostalgia for Sentai than PR at this point.

Whe could have another mecha like ginga-bitus ?

Power Rangers nostalgia in no way affects my enjoyment or lack thereof of Sentai. They're separate shows. I love Timeranger, and I love Time Force, but for different reasons.

Well, I don't think carrier mecha are super popular.
Not saying that we can't get more, though. With the cube animals, it would actually be rather easy to design a carrier for Zyuoh.

Aren't MogyuDaiOh, Hyper Ressha and Lion Ha-Oh carrier mecha?

Do you know anything about toy sales? I imagine they could easily suffer. I'm basing that on the assumption that they're costly, because they're big, and they wouldn't be as high of a priority.


Oh, wow, you could do some simple but fun things with that.

I believe Carrier mech toys stopped being popular in the 80s and the combining mech toys took over.

As for PR nostalgia, it greatly fueled my love for Zyuranger. Once I finished that, I tried watching Dairanger, Kakuranger, and Megaranger - all series that I enjoyed the PR adaptation, but none of them had the same effect. I eventually settled on Jetman, which I enjoyed for the same (non-nostalgia) reasons I liked Zyuranger. After that, I enjoyed Sentai for what it was, not for Power Rangers nostalgia. So it definitely did have an effect on my ability to enjoy Super Sentai.

I still think Megaranger is kind of boring.

Then again, when I say carrier, I think of mecha that actually carry things, while others think of the likes of Titanus/King Brachion, who are giant mecha that can combine with the main robot, so it might just be a different line of thinking.

That's what I mean. If a toy is expensive to produce and doesn't sell that well, they could easily fall to the wayside if kids aren't into them.

Sea themed? There are a few, like the whale from Go-Onger or the Ebi origami from Shinkenger. There are also a lot of individual limbs based on aquatic life (As well as boats/subs/etc).

Considering the "Domain no Ouja" rolecall we have going, how would you suspect ZyuOh the World to handle it? One untapped domain you could reasonably find his 3 beasts in? 3 seperate dominions? Or unique role call that doesn't involve declaring his status as Ouja of something?

At this point I'm banking on him just shouting "世界の王者!" Because sekai means the World and that's his name ZyuOh the World and I'd totally expect the Japanese to do something like that.

But now I'm curious how, if he is KaixaBird as the hand that grabbed the cube looked like one of KaixaBird's, how he gets 3 animals based on Larri and the other Zyumans wondering how a human can have multiple power sets whereas they can only have 1 and it has to be what they already are.

Zyuranger was my first series and it gave me such a nostalgia high (due to growing up with MMPR) that once it ended, I just wanted more of the same. I was turned off from Dairanger and Kakuranger because they weren't Zyuranger, nothing more. Thankfully, I got over that - I just haven't gotten back to either series yet. I'm fairly certain I'll love them, especially since Dairanger has some of my favorite suit and mech designs in the entire series.

Does super sentai have the same heisei and showa split that kamen rider does?

It doesn't seem like they do. It feels like, because Sentai didn't have a noticeable break in airing, they don't feel a need to distinctly separate the old and the new.

That makes sense that does since it didn't need to try and reinvent itself after a long break like kamen rider did.

I am probably going to get back into watching super sentai since I only really watched ToQger, what would be a decent place to continue from?

There are tons of great series to go for. My personal recommendations will always be Gekiranger and Kakuranger. But you can't go wrong with the always popular Gokaiger, either. Some series that people are a little more iffy on are Dairanger and Dekaranger, and if you're looking for something a little older, Dairanger and Liveman are good choices, too (Jetman if you're big on drama).

I do remember Geki ranger from Jungle force, I really liked the suits so might go there and kakuranger I remember being reccomened ages when I tried to get into and stopped for reasons I do not remember.

Gokaiger I know if fairly popular so I might go there and it is shame Deka ranger is considered iffy given that the the ranger series that came from it is one of my favourites.

Really the thing with Dekaranger's iffyness from what I know/read is that Deka kind of goes against the normal Sentai formula and is a very episodic series, and watching it currently, I personally think it's either a hit or miss season.

I love it however and it's definitely up with my favorite seasons, so yeah I'd recommend it; And plus if you liked SPD it's likely you will like Deka, they have similarities in them and it's one of the more "faithful" adaptations that PR has done. A big reason why I like Deka is that it's like SPD, one of my favorites. The Dekarangers and SPD rangers are also pretty similar in some qualities, not carbon copies but they share some personality traits.

Abaranger, Megaranger, Carranger and Gingaman are also great series to check out. I also recommend Shinkenger if your looking for something more modern.

No. I've seen it divided into eras by production teams, but there's no clear past/modern divide like there is in Rider. Probably because Sentai's never gone away for years like Rider has.

There isn't really a noticeable split like in Kamen Rider or Godzilla, but I usually separate Sentai into eras based on prevalence of CGi, with the "showa" era ending with Timeranger and the "Heisei" era starting with Gaoranger. Of course, that doesn't actually line up with the emperors, but still.

How do those "guess and win" remote games during the credits work? Especially on a technical level? Do the Japanese keep some weird memory card game console type tech exclusive to their TVs and if, say, Sony pops the same model out over in the states they gut it so they can laugh at how those silly gaijin don't get magic super TVs?

Not sure this belongs here, but is the spring Zyuoh/Ghost crossover special actually part of the episodes of each series? That's what it's sounding like to me. I have no idea, but I know interactive TV has been around in the UK for at least a decade and a half. I first heard of it a decade ago, watching British TV recordings from 2001 & 2002, and it blew my mind.

Yeah, based on the promo at the end of Zyuohger 06 it looks that way. Probably one or two episodes of both shows with crossover elements, sort of how Shinkenger and Decade did it in 2009.
