Power Rangers is a bigger market than DBZ and Megaman combine here in america, a Lord Zedd, like i've said before, would sell GANGBUSTERS in fact, i'd probably willing to bet a Lord Zedd figuart would be one of the best selling figures bluefin tamashii could ever bring over here. Bluefin Tamashii is the distributor over here for figuarts, they don't produce the figures, but they got a say in what gets made for the market, as the countless Megaman and DBZ polls have shown. the figuarts DBZ line would be DEAD if it wasn't for american sales |
To be fair the Dragonball Z characters are still Dragonball Z characters though. They appeared in a show that was massive in Japan, and whether its bigger over here or not its still reasonably popular in Japan otherwise they wouldn't keep churning out OVAs and videos games of it over there.
The examples of Megaman and DBZ are all well and good, but Bluefin are yet to show Tamashii Nations make a character that was created by the US for the US. I DO think that may happen for characters like Lord Zedd since he was extremely popular, but I agree with Snowfall that a lot of people are probably overestimating just how many Power Rangers Figuarts we're going to get that aren't just ranger teams with Sentai counterparts. |
Megaman and DBZ are not Power Rangers. Both of those franchises have HUGE fanbases over here, primarily with older teens/adults who collect those kinds of things.
I'm not claiming that Power Rangers isn't a popular show, but it's primary audiance is kids and parents are not willing to spend $40+ on a single action figure. That's been proven time and time again. Everyone claimed Shinken Red would sell gangbusters in the US, if they'd only take a chance and release him and look what happened. And again, the single biggest flaw in your argument is that none of Bluefins polls have once listed a Power Ranger character, only the ones with Sentai counterparts. Perhaps if the figures they're currently bringing over manage to sell well enough, they'll take an interest in making Power Rangers exclusive ones, I won't rule that out as a possibility. But right now, it's just not happening. They're taking notice of the US fans and that's the first step, but let's try to run before we can crawl. |
Power rangers has a larger fanbase over here in america though, power ranger is more of a household name than DBZ or megaman.
every young person in thier 20's would see a lord zedd figuart and go "HOLY SH*T I REMEMBER HIM! THAT'S SO COOL!" and might just impulse buy it because of that strong nostalgia like it said, its not a garuntee, but its a WAY more possibiity than you think |
The flaw in your logic, Snowfall, is that Zedd was released in Japan. Saban/Toei dubbed and released almost every season of MMPR in Japan now. Including episodes with Zedd and the Psycho Rangers. So it does have a Japanese Audiance, they would know who and what he is, so they could make a Figuart of him and sell it in Japan. Even as a webshop exclusive. So you're arguement about how He's an America Only Character and he'd never sell in Japan? Invalid.
And the arguement about how Kamen Rider and Sentai are mainly a kid property? Then explain to me how Figuarts sell at all. Since, as you said, more kids watch it then adults. That arguement makes no sense. If adult collecters didn't buy Figuarts: Bluefin wouldn't exist, we'd never get Figuarts in our local TRU's, and Figuarts would never leave Japan's shores. And I'll end with this. Unless you work for Bluefin, are in every meeting, or have mental powers, you don't know what they're doing. I don't know what they're doing. This is all speculation. So to talk in such absolutes, like any of us know for absolutely sure what's going to happen, is what's foolish. Look how about many people said they'd skip Goseiger. Look how that all worked out for you. |
I don't suppose anybody here knows the date in Sept when Red Buster is released do they? I can't seem to find anything other then the month.

I'd agree, except for one point.
Outside of villains (Who I'm led to believe are poor sellers in their own right, often getting sold as exclusives), there are only 4 American made characters, Titanium and the Spirit Rangers (Hailing from two extremely lackluster series). The argument of "They're only listing characters with Sentai counterparts!" really doesn't hold when the PR only list is minuscule and the characters themselves weren't heavy hitters in terms of popularity. |
The arguement of figuarts in TRU, i believe, is totally irrelevenat. That has noting to do with bluefin at all. However, i do agree the most parents wont shell out anymore than $40 for any sort of toy, be it rangers, marvel or dc.

Okay, I'm sorry to ask another question about SAL, but I am really having a hard time feeling comfortable on choosing that option. I think my problem is, Mandrake does not give me a shipping estimate. I have to choose my shipping option when I place the order, but there is no way to know what shipping will be beforehand. I want to see a clear price difference between DHL, EMS, and SAL before I choose, because if ti is only like $5-10, I'd be better off just going with DHL. However, if it is like a $20-25 price difference, I might go with SAL. Is there a big difference?
|
That's my problem with Mandarake. When I almost ordered SH Den-O Wing Form and the 4 form pack for about $45, they emailed me the total price and the shipping was $30 f*cking dollars! o_o

you DO know how big that set is right...

Not getting shipping estimates is still a legitimate complaint IMO. It's one of my problems with Mandarake too. I've only ever gone SAL, though, because I buy when I know it'll get to there I'm at and I'm not too impatient about getting my figures. So I guess I can't be of much help here.. |

Yeah, I just stupidly bought the Fourze Modules 1 and 2, Machine Massingler, and Display Stand from Mandrake not realizing it was going to be $105 once all was said and converted. I'm kicking myself for not canceling my order.

I'm not blaming Mandarake.
But the air of "It's cheaper" isn't entirely true when the only shipping options it gave me when I ordered were EMS or DHL. |

BTW, DHL was 2400 yen for just Kamen Rider Knight and it was 2400 yen for the four items I ordered. Just in case you guys were wondering if you should ever use DHL. How it is the same for one item as it is for 4 I do not know.

Supposedly Nakano has a "special" DHL rate which I've yet to figure out. |
Is it just Nakano? It seems like Shibuya's DHL rates aren't too bad. Kokura's rates are bad though. And if you get too much stuff, SAL stops being cheap too.
