FRS Ultraman Z looks amazing
https://bandai-hobby.net/item/5793/ Also more details for Drive https://bandai-hobby.net/item/5805/ Looks like the tire may be made from a softer plastic to emulate rubber. |
Hello guys, I'm new here.
Just grab some FRSs but Can anybody tell me that why Bandai don't make the toe joint anymore? Only Kuuga has these joints. Maybe they want seperate FRS line with SHF line, I think. BTW, the upcoming Drive look good. The only problem is the ass-hurting painting job. |
Drive is a little underwhelming to me because I was fully expecting them to do a tire change gimmick, but there's not one -- he just comes with his sword and gun, and admittedly it's pretty cool the shift cars can slot into them! He still looks good, just had higher expectations.
Z looks absolutely fantastic, and I love that he comes with literally everything the SHF does and THEN throws on top a fully-functional Beliarok!! I'm genuinely tempted to swap out my SHF at this rate, that dumb talking sword is so alluring. I wonder now if FRS Ultra is intending to go backwards through New Gen and try and cover all of them? It's a bit hard to tell because Z has immense popularity on his own, so doing him isn't necessarily indicative of that. It would be pretty cool though, and would gel well with their pre-established pattern of covering the currently-airing Ultra. If they DO do that then there's only 7 main New Gen Ultras to do, wouldn't be too hard! |

Also I agree. Drive looks great but you know a lot of that detail, like the stripes, are going to be stickers or paint. |
Who's next after Drive Type Speed?
|
Presumably either Gaim or Kiva. I imagine we'll have both by the end of the year
|
Drive looks good, and I'm glad that his gimmick is removable. However I do agree with those saying he's light on accessories, was hoping he'd have at least one of the main three tyre changes. If the leaks are to be believed, our final Heisei 20 Rider will be Gaim, and then we're in the wild.
|
The leaks were for last night's reveals, so they're completely false. Up in the air whether the next one is Kiva or Gaim
|
Some of the Gundam leaks were right, but it could have been a lucky guess
|
It better should be Kiva - my all time favorite Rider.
I hope that they will release all the FRS final forms. |
I do hope Kiva is next, but I'm glad he and Gaim are some of the last ones. They're far and away some of the more complicated base suits to create as a kit with their surface-level linework. I assume Gaim will have a lot of stickers.

Also, I assembled Shin Kamen Rider.
It's frustratingly good. I say frustratingly because it's actually potentially a fantastic kit. I elected to leave out the hair and paint the skin black. The few silver pieces are pre-painted, the construction is solid and is one of the few FRS kits that feels almost like an action figure when built. The elbows and knees especially have very well-designed, natural bends. Also the sculpted textures are phenomenal. But there's very little accessories. A single extra scarf, a single pair of chopping hands. It's really weak. He needed bare minimum some relaxed open hands, and ideally some splayed hands for grabbing poses. It severely limits posing options for a kit that's this well articulated, and no gripping hands means a hypothetical Shin Cyclone will need to come with an extra green runner with gripping had parts. I have a feeling Bandai intentionally left the hand options out so as not to compete too much with the SHF. As it is it's still very well designed and articulated, but display options are annoyingly limited. |
The lack of hand options is really strange and one of the turning points for me going for the SHF instead. It's a shame because the kit looks absolutely gorgeous

I beautiful look at FRS Wizard

That's gorgeous. Shame about the driver's sticker. I secretly hoped it'd be parts separated for easy painting.
Interesting that the forehead gem is a sticker. There must be now yellow/gold plastic on this kit. |

Unfortunately, HLJ didn't get mine in stock. Don't you just hate it when HLJ doesn't get stuff in stock in time? Talk about utter laziness.

I do not blame anyone for passing on Wizard due to the stickers. Genuine struggle.
Attachment 62922 Looks nice on the shelf, though. |

Also for the silver on the shoes, red on the ankles and wrists, and indeed the collar. Other than the shiny silver under the helmet and chest, all of them had issues. I've done enough of these kits by now to know that it's not just my dexterity to blame. |
Jeez, what’s the point of having a painted silver spruce if two thirds of the colour will be stickers anyway. Thank goodness I have paint and Gundam Markers.
|
The Shin Kamen Rider kit is nice but a bit overpriced compared to other Kamen Rider kits.

Not terribly interesting news but Bandai Hobby has in-hand pics of the Dark Kabuto kit up. They gave the black a high glossy finish which seems wasted considering the red circuitry pattern is, predictably, still the normal semi-matte finish stickers, ruining the entire point of the gloss.
https://bandaihobby.hatenablog.com/e...DI1OS42MC4wLjA. Also I feel like we've gone a while without any FRS Kamen Rider news. I know Drive is still coming but I'm wondering what else. Still hoping for a FRS Battle Hopper for Black and Cyclone for Shin Kamen Rider. Speaking of, I'm surprised we still haven't got Nigo yet. Also I want to get another FRS Shin to repaint into New Rider 1's colours, since it's obvious that's not going to happen for a while. |
Well there's only 2 Heisei FRS left to go, Kiva and Gaim, so the next release won't be a big surprise.
We will probably get some recolors and retools to pad out the line (Kamen Rider Knight, Zeronos, Diend?) Rider Machines can still go either way. Either they were a good sub-line and we'll get more, or the Try-Chaser was just a test and we won't see anymore. |
FRS Ultraman Bazar is happening. And it's using Bandai's multicolor molding technique. Looks pretty good

So I finally got Wizard. Already painting the inside of the coat, but getting a look at the accessories I'm pretty disappointed. I don't know why Bandai is so stingy with their extras, but Wizard doesn't even have closed fists. I also feel like it's pretty weak that the Driver doesn't have a swappable hand. I don't expect a full loadout of alt hands with every ring, but it's still weak as hell that they basically give you no options.
I also don't think the parts separation is as good as it could be. i totally get not being able to do the coat trim in silver, that's just unavoidable, but the silver stripe along the back and on the shoes easily could have been parts. Not Ghost-bad, but after Blade it doesn't feel like as much effort was done here. Makes me kind of worried because Shin Kamen Rider also felt a little light on extras, namely no relaxed hands or gripping hands. (meaning we're stuck waiting for a FRS Cyclone if we want a bike for it) Gaim and Kiva aren't designs I feel corners can be easily gut on. I'm holding out hope that Drive is an improvement but these last two FRS Kamen Rider kits have felt a little backwards from the effort and care that went into Blade and Black. (and even the new parts for Skull) |
Right, a couple of updates:
Back at TFN I bought Den-O, Blade and Wizard. Den-O is solid. The plat-form is cool, and he’s got a solid range of accessories and articulation. Blade is also good, love his silver, though the knees are a bit strange. Wizard, as a figure, is good, but between the all of the awkward stickers and the lack of accessories doesn’t quite live up to his potential. Also picked up Faiz and Kabuto (both older kits I never got the chance to get) today from Forbidden Planet. Slight tangent, but their selection today was bigger than I can remember seeing in years there, quite possibly due to the recent formation of Bandai Hobby UK and them becoming an official distributor here (doesn’t bring down the price though!). Either way happy with the purchase, as it means I’ve gotten all of the currently released main Riders. I do hope BHUK reprint HeatMetal though. |

While the outcome is pretty decent, I found the Faiz kit really annoying to build in a few areas. So uh, be prepared for that, I guess.
