I know, I know. It just annoys me so much. It didn't used to but it never ends, the elitists are just like this non stop white noise screaming in my ear.

Even the lowest rated Super Sentai series (GoBusters) averaged a low 3.0 for the entire series.

Power Rangers since about Operation Overdrive are lucky to get high 2.0's in ratings. Usually falls in the 1.7 to 2.3 range, with spikes to 2.6 and 2.7 with promotion.

That means that in Japan, a failing Super Sentai show (like GoBusters, that got a new theme song to try and entice viewers with a change in direction of the series) is still viewed more than successful shows like Samurai/Super Samurai.

Sorry I wasn't trying to paint a negative picture or anything :lol

The trend is just that in Japan, Super Sentai is more popular (and more viewed) than Power Rangers is here in the United States. Because of that you end up with people that like to watch the Sentai version of things and get all gungho about it.

When Saban Brands then brings over a series, they tend to dumb it down to their age bracket (3-9) and remove a lot of the pieces that made the Sentai version have it's unique appeal to the older audience, thus creating the "POWER RANGERS SUCKS, SENTAI ROCKS" mentality.

Of course if you loved the Sentai version you will probably end up disliking the Power Rangers version. I loved Gokaiger ... Super Megaforce is probably not going to be my cup of tea. But I understand they are two different stories, just using the same footage (or at least they used to be until it became a copy/paste of the Sentai version).

I call BS on this KB, and here's why: Sentai fans tend to bust on Power Rangers because Sentai has "death" and "swearing" and is more mature. While this doesn't apply to everyone, I honestly feel like it's an excuse to watch a show that is still by and large, designed for children.

But because it has the aforementioned, that's the excuse that it's "acceptable." At the end of the day, they're both kids shows, with rainbow colored, tightly worn spandex that fight rubber monsters.

I don't know that there's much swearing - I'm not familiar enough with the Japanese language, or dialect, to know if the swearing I see on the subtitled episodes is actually what was meant. Kind of like "bullcrap" and "bullshit" are the same thing, but in English, one is considered a swear-word and the other isn't.

But if anyone is seriously using the excuse of "death" and "swearing" as a reason why a show is better than another then I feel bad for those that really base their decision on liking a show or not on that. I admit, having "death" in RPM really made me enjoy it - not because it was ZOMG DEATH but because for the STORY it really drove home the fact that THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD, and that these deaths really shaped the characters of Scott and Summer.

At the end of the day it's all meant to sell merchandise, whether it's on this side of the pond or not. I just like colored spandex.

I don't know why, but apparently liking the things you like is cause for insecurity, but it's totally okay to like Super Sentai because it's like Power Rangers only with like corn syrup and food colouring on their face when they demorph!

Although it may have it on some seasons, it isn't as clear cut as the Sentai is always more mature and it always has more depth, it's just elitist overhyping. There are things you can't add to children's programming here that Japan is okay with, no one takes that into account it seems on the elitist bench, they just spit the words 'watered down', not even thinking about how the show has been localised to an entirely different culture and set of rules.

says who? the point is its all opinion. the occasional time ive poked my head around the sentai forum i dont see power rangers mentioned every other breath, so why do the elitists feel the need to bring up sentai nonstop in the power ranger forums?
as ive stated several times in other threads some of the core concepts they do for sentai border on ludicrous and prevent me from wanting to watch any of that garbage. (ie the whole 'dino earth' alt world of abaranger, the talking cars of go onger, and so on)
