I've given this a little thought and this movie could easily be fixed. Have Lupin already part of the MegaHex from the beginning. Then have Drive's segment be about Lupin stealing a McGuffin for the MegaHex to use in the end game. And just like that, the Drive segment is now important to the overall story of the movie. As it stands, Drive's segment has no bearing on the movie as a whole. Personally, I would split them into different movies, but this is the easiest way to fix it without doing that. |

This movie also reminded me of how painful Drive's slo mo acting can be sometimes....

If Kouta and Mai turn back to human forms they stayed on land still wow that is awesome how they are back on earth.

Just so that they can give everyone a proper goodbye, though. Then they're going continue being space gods.

I just wish they made a movie after all of that.

Finally had time to sit down and watch this.
First reaction: needed more Haruto. Not just because I like Haruto, but because I miss having the Rider from two years ago show up to help the current and former Riders. It was one of the many great things about Mega Max and Ultimatume pulled it off well, even with Eiji just doing a cameo. I miss that and want to see the Movie Wars start doing it again. Gaim part: good epilogue to the show. Megahex seemed like a proper threat and it was cool having the remaining Armored Riders team up to take them down. I especially liked the fight between the Megahex avatar and Takatora. Drive part: perfectly serviceable throwaway story. I was a bit worried going in, but it was relatively light on the early-days Drive shenanigans (although Shinnosuke screaming at his belt was unavoidably silly). Team-up part: Loved Kouta and Shinnosuke's interactions. It's the only time we really got to see Kouta act like his old self again instead of Super Serious Space God Kouta. I also enjoyed how this portion was unabashedly ridiculous, but also completely self aware of that fact.Tonally, it felt a bit out of place - especially compared to the much more serious Gaim chapter - but it was fun. Really need a giant dragon with a motorcycle on the back to come in and take down that giant dragon robot thing that was chasing the Trideron, though; just sayin'. Overall I liked it better than Core and Sengoku Battle but less than Mega Max. It's about on par with Ultimatum and 2010 for me. |
