They have every right to comment, but I also have every right to question it. From what I've seen, from fandoms in general, everyone is a raging pessimist in regards to something they supposedly enjoy. If you no longer enjoy something, move on and find something else that floats your boat.

That's an easy order to give out, but just moving on means the thing you supposedly love you're letting decline and leaving to its fate. Shows get cancelled when they piss off all if not most of their fanbase, and companies like Konami get hated by their very own fanbase for dumb internal decisions they made.

Yes people can bitch a lot, as I've seen half of the DC fanbase hate Rebirth and the other half cherish it, and most Marvel fans are pissed at the handling of X-men/Mutant stories right now, but if they just up and left the writers will translate that into "well no one wants to see these stories, so will just drop them instead of fixing them".

Most fans aren't complaining because they want to be an asshole (Read: Most). They're so vocal because they love it so much that they don't want to see it fail or make mistakes.

So if they believe they fucked up on design, they'll point it out. If they think they messed up on the premise, they'll say something about it.

If the fans didn't care, that's when they'd shut up and move on. The fact that they won't shut the hell up means they still care for and love the property, even if it's in some misguided way.

I mean, sure, that's what I like to believe when I'm being generous.

But it's also true that some of the most die-hard fans have an extreme sense of entitlement and feel like shows tailor-made to their specific preferences are owed to them. And when they don't get exactly what they want, they decide a show is bad and write it off completely, almost always without watching said show on its own terms.

There's a difference between a fan expressing his disappointment and a fan deciding that a show is gonna be crap because it doesn't match her preconceived notion of what it "should" be. I feel like there's more of the latter in this fandom than I'd prefer.
