Sums it up pretty perfectly, and shows what made it a great anniversary show without the need for a Gokaiger retread. I have to disagree with the ice cream analogy though, purely because vanilla is beautiful flavour, and it pains me every time I see it it used as a way of saying typical/standard!

Vanilla to me is quite bland no matter the version unless you put hot fudge or something on it.

That's probably more to do with a lifetime of low-quality artificial vanilla being the "generic" flavoring for just about everything than anything to do with vanilla flavors themselves. Mostly because the real stuff is only beaten out by freaking saffron, which is essentially edible gold in price, for most expensive spice in the world.

Especially when it comes to ice cream. Get the real deal and you'll notice the difference immediately.

Vanilla is a beautiful flavor.
When it's mangled, and mashed, and churned out en masse, of course all you're going to taste is it's bland sweetness. No ice cream company selling for $4 a gallon will net you quality vanilla.

I also acknowledge that not all taste buds are created equal, though. And weaker, hidden tastes may sometimes be missed (It's why I can never be a cheese connoisseur)

Hear, hear! :) Mayhap a few people will invest in a some vanilla pods upon leaving this this thread and challenge their own preconceptions! That'd be smashing.
