I'm just gonna flat out say that I don't like this show.
Lucky's powers have been more positive than negative. He saved the first 3 Kyurangers out of the blue, he pinpointed 3 additional Kyurangers on nothing more than sheer coincidence, and he had a literal deus ex machina both save him and grant him powers. Not having his luck powers save him in the climax of this episode doesn't really create any balance. We'll how often it does and doesn't get him out of predicaments as the show goes on. However, I'm already banking on him getting his sun/moon form by fucking stumbling over it on a planet or something. His catch phrase is grating because he uses it too often (It's not inherently bad, but simply him constantly spouting it is a problem), he's somehow unaware of the presence of Jark Matter and needs it explained to him despite the series establishing that they rule most of the universe, and his personality is cut and paste. It's not any worse than other "Fireball" reds, but that doesn't inherently make it better, nor does it mean that I have to like him. The characterization given to the initial 3 is minimal. I can't get any real beat on any of them. Hammy and Champ suffer especially since their roles are "Be in the scene." Spada, aside from food puns (Which isn't a character trait), does have some moments to display an actual character. What that character is, I can't tell you. Raptor being the straight laced, mission minded pilot is easy to pick up and is ripe for expansion. Short tempered, and all that. Not even a ranger yet. Garu's backstory was not only too fast to care, but also incredibly generic. As a character, I assumed he would be the unwilling warrior, but that was thrown out just as fast as his history. Balance and Naga did get more substantial. By not flogging the episode down, they gave enough to know their desires and how it'll be expanded on. They got more characterization because they were more over the top in portraying them. The cherry on top, though? We already know we're getting 2 more rangers minimum. This show better do a damn good job balancing portraying a base cast of 10 as it goes on... The action is not impressing me. I liked the body cam on Ookami Blue this episode, but otherwise, I'm not seeing anything creative. I'm hoping as the roster expands (Or as characters get more defined), their fighting styles will become more stylistic and fun to watch. The mecha is dire and I'm not sold on it. I did enjoy Naga and Balance's voyagers manually removing Hammy and Spada's, though. Very fun. We're 2 episodes in, and it's presenting all of it's problems right away. Most series have a hard time juggling a cast of 6, usually giving 2-3 members the shaft in terms of characterization. I'm surprised the next episode isn't about something weird happening to Raptor, just to crank out all 9 by episode 3. |

I guess this is just the big difference in how people like Lucha and me are looking at things versus you. I'm seeing things long-term and brushing off what I see as minor writing hiccups. There were probably less strange ways to establish Lucky is kind of dense, admittedly. Quote:
I guess part of the reason I've chilled out on Lucky already is because the way the show is using him, he almost seems more like a supporting character than our main hero for the year. Like this episode was really clearly Balance and Naga's story, and he's just there to get the pieces in place. Quote:
Champ is your stereotypical brutish fantasy warrior character who's all about beating up bad guys in the name of "justice!". It's not much, but it's there. Quote:
Right now, though, it honestly seems like Kyuranger has a pretty solid plan behind it. If I can't convince you, hopefully the show will sooner rather than later. |

What I officially posted was, "sad to hear that so many of y'all don't feel the same way." Is that not fair? Sorry, I'm really just frustrated with everyone automatically leaping to the most negative possible interpretation of people's statements here. And Fish, no offence meant, you were backing me up! |
Pretty much like all save any time Red opens his mouth lol. Really liking the Mecha. I loved the forced limb change as well as gold and silver's robot modes.

Like I said, this stuff happens all time . |

Unless Lucky's luck is meant to be some big mystery too, but they haven't remotely suggested that yet. |
First of all, phrasing like that you could literally turn any happenstance into lucking out on X or Y.
Next, all of Yamato's actions and motivations aren't purely based on "I have good luck, therefore, I'll just coast through life with whatever my naturally good luck throws at me." Also, 2 of those points: Yamato had the cube and Zyuman powers for 10 years. It was brought up, questioned, and explained. |

I liked it. And I'm generally not a Sentai guy. Last one I remember watching was Gekiranger and in all honestly the campiness of this show is pretty much along those lines.
I like the idea of watching a multi-race Sentai group. Its pretty cool and the suit designs are much more eye-catching that the suits of the Sentai that came before. Maybe its good enough for a filthy casual like myself. |
Not a bad episode, but not great either. I really love the chemistry between Naga and Balance, but Lucky is already starting to get on my nerves. He is already joining Ban and Daigo as being one of the worst red rangers ever. He is obnoxious and loud while also having a character shield on max at all times.
