Realistically speaking, they'll probably have to extend it again because people are still being infected. But it makes more sense to extend it a little bit and see how things go since we don't know how long the virus will stick around.

So it looks like Japan is starting to lift the state of emergency in much of the country. Has there been any announcements regarding the SAL restrictions?

Today I received a mail from one of the Japanese sellers on eBay and he told me the restriction on Japan's post office has not been lifted yet and offered me to ship my order via FedEx.

Even if it were lifted they've still got a sizeable backlog of EMS and Air Mail parcels to sort through before they can even think about reopening SAL.

And once again- just because they can send flights out doesn't mean anything if there's nowhere for them to land.

Amiami said they would contact people when their order was returned to sender and arrange for it to be shipped out again.

My order was returned to sender on April 14th, and they still haven't contacted me. So yeah I think there's a big backlog indeed.

I've got an EMS box from Jungle that's been sitting in Osaka for... exactly one month, as of today. Happy one-month anniversary, cases of SO-DO!

Well that was creepy. Literally hours after I post this, I get an email from amiami telling me my package has returned to them.

The email stated that there is no option to re-ship at the moment. They are waiting for things to clear up (and probably a sizable backlog).

Some online stores like Mandarake have offered to reship packages via FedEx and DHL at no additional cost. I hope amiami does the same, but I'm not counting on it.

I actually had exactly this happen. Checked tracking on a SAL order from Manda from back in March that had been sitting in limbo, learned it was returned to sender (Not just updated- marked as delivered), and decided to give them a week and change to see if they got to seeing as I follow(ed) them on Twitter and they did explain the situation at length there. Finally contacted them about it, confirmed it was in their possession, and they offered to bump it up to DHL and cover the difference. I accepted and now I'm waiting on that to go through- but yeah, big backlog.

As others and myself have said- it's just stuff, I'm not overly concerned about it. Lives are worth more than a few trinkets and baubles to sit on my shelves.
