This is just me but could we say the, "heart and soul" of Power Rangers died when it left FOX? If the FOX Family Channel had been successful it would've never been in the hands of Disney. Who knows? Maybe Power Rangers could've been more successful in the 2000s. I could see Power Rangers being one of the marquee series on FOX Family. Also I wonder why they never considered shooting the series in Canada? It would still be cheaper to shoot the series there and plus I believe the show could've kept it's Union Status. |

Power Rangers is remember as campy and cheap show for kids. That stigma will never go away. I think other kids franchises like Dragon Ball, Transformers, etc are more respected by the general public because those series can take themselves too seriously.

Yeah but my alternate timeline is that the FOX Family Channel ends up being successful. This leads into News Corp finally buying Saban and making Power Rangers part of the 21st Century FOX umbrella. FOX Family would make PR one of their marquee shows. I know FOX wanted to buy Saban multiple times but he rejected it.

As to the potential solutions rather than who committed what transgression (Saban, Disney, Saban, Hasbro), what are the possibilities that would help the franchise survive?
Fair Warning: All Options are related to how a release of new material could work, and not necessarily related to the nature of said material. That said, Most Options are considered with the idea of continuing Sentai adaptations, incorporating elements of an already-adapted Sentai that were initially cut-out of Power Rangers (Example: Using un-adapted Dairanger Cotpotros as Power Ranger grunts), or providing answers to plotlines and/or characters that come across as vague in the existing material (Example: Fate of Ninjor after Mighty Morphin', What Happened between Zeo and the Turbo Movie, etc.) Option 1: Release a slew of movie specials not unlike the DC Direct-to-DVD/Blu-Ray Animated Movies. Granted, that method appears to be ending or significantly changing, but they kept it going for a long time. While an adaptation of this option won't be animated (cause it takes too much for that happen, apparently), it would give the fandom something to discuss and allow for product to finance the franchise. Option 2: Explore Alternative Mediums, like the Big Finish Doctor Who Audio Dramas. Granted, Power Rangers and Tokusatsu are visual mediums and it would be a divisive approach. That being said, Doctor Who was originally a visual medium and it thrived on the approach. I'm not necessarily saying that an audio drama or book-on-tape approach is a viable option, but it does show how visual product can adapt itself in a non-visual manner through alternates. Option 3: Dub Sentai into English as opposed to adapting it outright. Again, a highly divisive approach, and not a particularly imaginative one given that South Korea already does this and markets the end result under the Power Ranger name cause the franchise reportedly has more brand recognition than Sentai! In addition, Ultraman is doing the same thing as well and more successfully than Power Rangers ever will. It would definitely be criticized for being overly desperate and needlessly competitive. Option 4: Partner with Toei to make a 'spiritual successor' to the source material. South Korea dubbed Kyoryuger into "Power Rangers Dino Force", which was so successful that they partnered with Toei to do a follow-up in the form of "Power Rangers Dino Force Brave", which was basically modified costumes, heavily modified villain costumes, a new Big Bad and some robots, and redecoed/retooled toys. It's definitely an interesting mini-series, but it seemed to be a blip on the radar when it came out, even though Toei had it redubbed into Japanese as "Kyoryuger Brave". Now, it comes across as prophetic cause it was a short entry not unlike Cosmic Fury, but it I don't see Toei viewing that as the 'spiritual successor' to either Kyuranger or Ryusoulger! We may be nearing the end of adaptations, but Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury were originally developed as stopgaps to keep interest alive until the Entwistle Reboot was finished. Given that intention has clearly bombed, we may have to return to stopgaps until the next spark of inspiration. |
