First and foremost, I love this Epilogue and wish I had thought of it sooner so that I could've written the rest of the story around it. In hindsight I see a much better story where the beginning speeds up to Ceus getting hurt, then the middle is the Epilogue, and then the final part is the big battle where summoning Ceus is the big summon. It ended up being to late to accommodate that and even if I changed direction midway through I wouldn't have had time to make said changes due to life.* That said, I had fun and that's the most important thing. The things I enjoyed making the most were* the whole Epilogue including exploring the characters and the Element system, the big battle scene including the 2 page spread and the little one off jokes, and pretty much any scene with Unilla in it. Anyways, I may be taking a break soon. After November I am out of comics to post. May make something between now and December, but no promises. I'd like to finish out the year if I can. Next week is back to random Transformers jokes. |

No comic today, but instead I'm going to post overviews of the customs created for these recent TAOWAR comics as well as notes for the issues as well. Starting with the customs.
CUSTOM 1: Victor Claw. https://i.imgur.com/Gn9ihyt.jpg -I created Victor to be a bad guy, but not a villain. Just that real punchable rival character. After all, if I'm committing to that long term tournament arc, I might as well set up a hateable rival. He also allowed me to tell Blade that Avalon didn't pick him, so don't have to worry about that as a conflict of interest. Victor was originally named Chad in the script. I felt to was to on the nose. Victor, at least in this context, still sounds elitist and a bit egoistical. I didn't do a custom paint job on this figure. Might change that later whenever he appears again. Parts used: Head: Drew (Kamen Rider Dragon Knight) Body: Cobra Commander v43 (GI Joe) Claw Glove: Rex "The Doctor" Lewis v1A (GI Joe) Cape: Fandral (Thor The Mighty Avenger) CUSTOM 2: Alexander Steiner. https://i.imgur.com/GhPZ80V.jpg -Alexander Steiner is the new comic relief character for our heroes. For all intents and purposes, he is W.'s replacement. While W was a caricature of a real person that is mostly making fun of that person, Steiner is meant to be something a little different. I think of him as Silverbolt from Beast Wars crossed with Simon Belmont from Captain N with a dash of Milly from Trigun. Heroic, vain, and poignant. He's also named after the noble to a fault Steiner from Final Fantasy IX. -Steiner was oddly enough not created for TAOWAR, but rather for a group of Kamen Rider customs I called "Kamen Rider Ice King and the Knights of the Round." Basic idea was what if Gaim wasn't around to stop Helheim. Steiner was the secordany Rider of that idea. While I'll probably never make a stand alone comic of it, I plan to bring some of those characters and concepts into the TAOWAR. Like Steiner here. -I've showcased Steiner's custom before with the other Knights of the Round customs years ago, but I made some changes for his appearance here. The original hands had one closed fist, so I replacement them for more uniformed grabby hands. I also painted the belt green for a dash of color. Parts: Head: Longshot (Marvel Univere) Body: Thor Age of Thunder(Marvel Univere) Vest: Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes (Star Wars) Hands: DUKE v35 (GI Joe) CUSTOM 3: Roz Proudfoot https://i.imgur.com/6PeltuR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0tGYQSR.jpg -Roz takes off her poncho in this issue, so this is a good time to talk about her toy. When I created Roz, I never planned for her to continue pass the paradox story line so her custom was just Lady Jaye wearing black. I decided she needed an overhauled design. Roz is now more of cowboy themed with military gear underneath. I was planning on using the torso and arms of Helix at one point, but they just didn't work with the rest of the figure. Ironically, she's still mostly a Lady Jaye toy wearing black, but the new head and gear really goes a long way. Parts: Head: Jes Gistang (Star Wars Joker Squad) Body: Lady Jaye v9 (GI Joe) Belt: Lady Jaye v6 (GI Joe) Hat: Gnawgahyde v1 (GI Joe) Poncho: Star Wars Episode I Accessory Pack. Backpack: Lady Jaye v4 (GI Joe) CUSTOM 4 and 5: Blade's new forms -At some point earlier in the year I linked to a Twitter thread where I was working on form changes for Blade. This is where they come into play. There are forms in the thread I plan to make for future comics (so it contains spoilers), but there's also some concept forms in there, like a Tigatron I plan to never make, but did digibash. -Here's a link to the Twitter thread that goes more in-depth on these customs: https://twitter.com/BladeGnome/statu...19439028789250 Updated Raider Form: https://i.imgur.com/Zw5vi45.jpg -First new form is the updated Raider Form. Mostly the same as he appeared in ATTF 38, just has new arms and redone silver paint. The new arms give him wrist joints and swappable hands. The hands are black now to so I can borrow some hands from other SO-DO figures when I need to. The new arms comes from Zi-O's base form. Added the blue on the forarms at the last minute, considered leaving them silver, but I like the blue. Parts: Head: Para-DX Knock Out Fighter Chest plate, legs: Dangerous Zombie Body and back plate: Brave New arms and hands: Zi-O base form Shoulders: Jet Combat Lvl 0 Backpack: Fuma Belt: Ninja Player Sword: Unknown (I've never been able to ID this sword, but I have 2 of them in black and silver) TerraRaider Form: https://i.imgur.com/iVE42b6.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Flmxl8w.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CFAjOEz.jpg -The new focus going forward will be a Kamen Rider theme and also setting up a tournament fighter for later. I wanted these two to play into each other, so Blade fusing with his Summons became the the natural way to connect them. I started with Terragator because I knew exactly how I wanted the form to look and I had the extra parts for it. -For the gator head on the shoulder, I used a spare Terragator head I got from a junker to repair my main figure. The gator head just happened to fit on the SO-DO shoulder pad under it, so I didn't have the glue it. Before using a part form Terragator, I tried some other shoulder pads and nothing worked. -The shell shield was a lot more of a problem. I went through a few shields starting with the Arms Micron turtle, but eventually used a shield that came with the old 90's TMNT toy Movie Stars Raph. To mount it, I cut the shield's handle down into a peg that fits into a shield holder Kamen Rider Brave had. I'm really happy with how this one turned out. Parts: Gator head on shoulder: Terragator (Beast Wars) Shoulders: Kamen Rider Poppy (SO-DO) Chest: Jet Combat Lvl 0 (SO-DO) Gun: 2010 Kamen Rider Birth candy toy Shield: Movie Stars Raph (TMNT) Shield handle adapter: Kamen Rider Brave (SO-DO) _____________________________________________________________________________________ ATTF 75 Notes: Cover: I wasn't sure what to do from this cover. I really liked the neon gator head, so I decided to use it here and just go abstract with it. Page 1: -This page was added somewhat late. I think I was already writing well into Part 2. I did a lot to try to make this scene dark. Black space instead of white space, toned down the brightness, etc. If you can't tell, I like cold opens like this that set up the villain/monster/etc. Page 2-3: -When I started writing this, I had been watching a lot of Defunctland, so an amusement park setting just kind of happened. I placed it in Thundara on Mu mainly because I had some ThunderCats toys to fill in the park gates and the Tower of Omens in place of a Disney castle. -This all is on the planet named Mu. This is where I put all the high fantasy stuff (Final Fantasy, Zelda, LOTR, etc), including ThunderCats 2011 where Thundara is a kingdom rather than a planet. -The title was originally "Disney World Thundara," but I don't feel like I've used the setting to its fullest, so the title was changed to "Summon! Amusement Battle on Mu!" A very anime styled format. I'm not sure how long I'll keep using this format, I just wanted to try it out. -The underwear joke was the first joke I wrote. I did so to help set the tone. The last arc in TAOWAR felt off to me and I wanted to make sure I didn't repeat it, so I was paying attention to many little things like that. Page 5: -I have lived this page. This has happened almost word for word more than once. Very happy I got the chance to put it in here. Page 6: -Decided to split the group up for this one to help with pacing. Again, trying not to repeat what I feel were problems with the last story line. Page 7: -The last thing I added to this comic was the arrows pointing out the panel order. I did this because I felt my word balloon placements might be leading the eye to read it in the wrong order. Hope they helped. Page 10-15 -If you're wondering: Blade would have still lost regardless of not knowing the rules and him being unable to henshin. Terragator was already down for the count before Blade started reacting. I set out for Blade to lose this fight and I think I did a pretty good job of it. -I really enjoyed making that junior line and Victor's reaction to it. _____________________________________________________________________________________ ATTF 77 Notes: Cover: -I wanted to do an action shot for this one, but the final action scene of the comic took a lot more than I thought it would've. Instead, I went with showing, partly, the new form as Blade's forms have never been on the cover. Also threw in Thief and Roz because they do a lot of the fighting in this. Pages 1-2: -I think the only thing wrong with this comic is I picked Pudgy Pig, a very limited figure, for a fight that lasts the whole issue. Think I got creative enough to compensate for it, but I probably won't use a PR monster toy for a battle this long again if I can help it. Also that fork and knife got in the way so much, but I enjoyed using them. -The Bob-omb bit was fun. It was never meant to appear after that original gag back in TÃ*r na nÓg Epilogue. Pages 6-7: -So on Avalon Kamen Rider is normally just tv show like the real world. There's many reasons I made Thief a fan of Rider. Main reason is I wanted to expand on Thief's character some more. Give her an interest beyond stealing and it can be used for some good nerd banter between her and Blade. One of the reasons I picked Pudgy Pig was because it sparked the East vs West naming banter. -Alex is trying to reveal he's a Kamen Rider throughout this scene. There was suppose to be a couple of pages where he transforms after page 7, but then gets his ass handed to him. It was cut because there's a big focus on Blade's new form later in the issue and I want to be able to put the spotlight on Steiner more than this allowed when he transforms for the first time. Pages 8-11: -If you've read Terrgator's bio, his history with Scarem is mentioned there and I wanted to bring that into the comic. I think I rewrote this scenes a few times trying to find the right way to tie it all together. I don't know if I was successful, but I like it. Character scenes like this and the TÃ*r na nÓg Epilogue are ones I want more often. -As I've said before, I have issues with how the TÃ*r na nÓg story line turned out and one of the biggest problems was I realized where the character scene was far to late into it. Because I was posting as I was making it, I couldn't go back easily. -The read-only joke was the first joke I wrote for Part 2 and it's still my favorite. It's so silly and fun. -I wanted to do more with the ThunderCats in this, but I didn't want to add yet more to this fight, so I settled on the park guard helping the group fight. Used him enough that his name is dropped near the end. For the unfamiliar, Tygus is the character's actual name. I just used him in the first place because he was the most minor TCats character I owned a figure of. -Thought about dropping Pudgy Pig's normal lines here, but I wanted to make sure I could make these monsters talk normally going forward if I need them to. Plus, we know they are indeed experiments now rather than just Roz saying it. Pages 14-15: -Roz does not know what a Kamen Rider is and yet even though she fought Shocker Riders back in ATTF 37. I'm just saying that to say that I haven't forgoten, she just didn't know what they were. -I didn't write Blade's fight scene until I go to photographing it as I didn't know exactly what I wanted when I wrote up to that point in the script. When I got there I realized I wanted the others to be doing stuff to help. Steiner with that giant knife made me laugh. -There's a lot of photo editing work here as Blade is boosting and getting pushed back a lot. The first panel of Blade starting to push Pudgy Pig up the tower (the end of page 15) took a lot to set up as Pudgy Pig is heavy and there's not a good way to equip him with a stand. Eventually I found that the end of his helmet could be wedged into the elevator's shaft. Pages 16-17: -Empp shows up here because I knew I wanted his peace and quiet to be interrupted by the fight, but I didn't want him to join the fight. -Two page spread. Really happy with this one (Honestly don't think there's been one I didn't enjoy making). You may or may not have figured out how I did this. If you didn't, I used the floor. I laid it all on the floor with Blade held up by a stand pegged into his foot or belt depending on shot. Erasing the stands as usual. -Back when I made ATTF38, I used Command Line: Finisher. In the original script for that comic it was called Command Line: The Finisher. I was never sure if I was happy with that change until I was making this page and I naturally called "Command Line: The Finisher" again. So yeah, it's THE Finisher from now on. I don't even know why I changed it the first time. Pages 18-22: -I had a lot of exposition left over after all that. Thought about saving some for the next comic, but I just rather get a bunch of it out of the way. I did lean into the comedy though in hopes that it's more entertaining. Again, times like this is why I like having a character like Steiner around. It's also the first time all of the new main cast are really interacting at the same time. -Pudgy Pig turns back to human. No real reason right now, I just didn't want every monster to die. -I do think Roz repeats herself here somewhat, but I felt it was good to make sure everyone, characters and readers, were on the same page. _____________________________________________________________________________________ I hope you got some enjoyment out of this long post. I have no idea when the next comic will be, but I hope it's sooner than later. |

Notes today on the last two TAOWAR comics.
I feel like both of these are more in line with what I want from the comic going forward. Get in, get out, have fun. Both are 12 or 13 pages and quickly get to the point and into the action with a focus on a single hero for the issue. Neither have a cover and that's because I just didn't have any cover ideas. ___________________________________________________________________________________ ATTF 80 Notes: -This is the one focused on Steiner. In ATTF #77 I had it written that Steiner would transform into a Kamen Rider, but it would've been effect heavy and the issue was already effect heavy. So I decided to make a comic where him transforming and being the main hero of the fight was the focus. -This issue does not have Empp in it. The reason is simple: I didn't want to shop him floating around. As to where Empp was during this, just assume he was already on the Rough Diamond. In fact, going forward if a character doesn't appear, it's best to assume they're on the ship. -The setting here changed a bit. I wanted a junk yard, but I had just gotten the fresh market playset I had been wanting so I went with a general marketplace. Still kept the Panthro name though as the group is still in Thundera. -Favorite thing in this comic is Jeff Goldblum and his badger friend. They're just there in the back/foreground doing things. -I'm quite fond of the pose Roz takes when she realizes that Thief has a nerdy side like Blade. Finding the hat and poncho can make the figure express a little more. -Back in ATTF #37, there's a flashback that shows Roz as a child getting attacked by Shocker Combatmen and Shocker Rider 1. When I rembered this scene, I realized there was a plot here. This wasn't planned, in fact they were just a cameo because DE-MOS was a bunch of evil organizations combined and I sold most of my Cobra and Storm Troopers already, so I needed to fill a role. Anyways, this resulted in me pairing Steiner and Roz for the issue. -Between pages 3 and 4, there was suppose to be the start of a B plot that I ultimately dropped. General idea was Blade and someone else would have a Summon battle over a Kamen Rider toy. Just a little low steaks fight that would introduce a new Summoner. Much like Steiner transforming in #77, this was cut because it was effects heavy and took focus away from the main plot. -In my attempts to pick up the pace, I might've rushed the scene of Steiner and Roz arguing a bit, but I think it worked out. -Servbot is a custom. The toy is from 66Action Mega Man Volnutt. It was originally just a clear yellow PVC accessory with zero paint. I painted the whole thing. I had been painting on him when I started making this comic and this was a simple and quick character to use. Monster form is because robot. -Note that Roz only has her sidearm with her. She wasn't hunting and was kind of low on ammo after the last comic. -CUSTOM: Kamen Rider Steiner. https://i.imgur.com/6gGnJr9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0ZpaP68.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eleUCEV.jpg Much like Steiner's human form, I created this Rider for "Kamen Rider Ice King and Knights of the Round", but I did some updating. All the black lining was added to break up the solid colors (panel liners are fun). I also added an extra handle from SO-DO Woz's spear to the Banaspear because the Arms Action Banaspear just has a tiny little peg. I also renamed the Lockseed, originally I called it Ripe Banana Arms, but ripe bananas aren't green. Underripe bananas are green. So yeah, Underripe Banana Arms it is. Parts: Head Front, Body, and Shield: Arms Action Mars Head Back, Back Armor, Shoulder Armor, Lance: Arms Action Banana Arms Chest Armor: Arms Action Kiwami Arms Lance Handle: SO-DO Woz Vest: Star Wars Cantina Band -So many effects in this transformation. Every instant where you can see a detailed driver and/or Lockseed are my Sengoku Driver and Banana Lockseed shopped onto figure. -The zipper hole effect is the wrong one because I couldn't find a clear shot of the Lockseed style zipper hole. It's serviceable though. -Thankfully didn't have to shop the Banana Arms over his head, but I did shopped the pegs and peg holes off the figure in the panel with it on his head. -Inside the helmet is probably my favorite bit I got to do as every Gaim Rider gets this inside the fruit shot when they transform on screen the first time. For this, I took Baron's and mirrored half the image so I could erase his hair and turned it green of course. -You know how Rider does off screen transformations to save budget and time as the show goes on? Yeah, expect a lot of that in Steiner's future. This was a lot to do. -The all organic Banaspear line makes no damn since, but it's ridiculous things like that I live for in fiction. -Steiner uses both Au Lait and Squash here. I specifically left out Sparking so I'd have another finisher for him later. Steiner's Squash is pretty much a copy of one of Baron's finishers, can't remember if it's the same name. Used Au Lait for the shield because I needed to do something with the shield. -Added the banana effect to his Rider Kick mostly for pizazz, but if you'd like you can assume it's part of his Squash finisher. -Much like last time, the monster turned back. So far, that happens when a Rider finishes them off. Will Servbot appear again? Maybe some day. ___________________________________________________________________________________ ATTF 82 Notes: -This was an idea I had a long time ago. What if I followed up the old TAOWAR Halloween Special with a slasher-ish plot starring Wii-PO. I kept putting it off because I wanted the spaceship to be set up first, then October came making me think about it. I thankfully realized it was a good simple plot to use to introduce the ship and the extended crew. -The Rough Diamond is a Micro Machine of the Ghost from Star Wars Rebels. Picked it because I liked the shape and like a lot of SW ships it looks like it could use some work. Colors are mostly just Roz's colors with some silver and blue added in. -The extended crew is made up of a bunch of old faces and a new one. Tex: He gets new gear. The old bandolier and stethoscope made him a pain to pose. Now he has a medical satchel that fits on the toy surprisingly well. Roger: One of the oldest side characters and he looks a little...different...yeah, what happened was the Battle Droid that I used for Roger for years had a leg get bent up in storage. I had gotten this red Battle Droid (which is a much better toy) at some point, so I just used it instead. In universe, Roger got upgraded/repainted at some point. Side note, I had to paint the eyes on because the red Battle Droid's eyes wore off at some point. MOP Droid: This was a running gag character that appeared in a handful of old comics. He's a one note character here to fill a role, so it's a good fit. He also appeared in the Halloween Special working for Wii-PO, so his reaction here makes since. Handy Dandy: New character! I needed a chief engineer and Handy Dandy was on my desk at the time. Not the best first outing to show off her character, but she'll appear again, I'm sure. -Roger and Empp talk about how this is a piece of badly written fiction. This is me having fun with the fact that the Halloween Special, that this comic is a sequel to, has no place to fit in continuity. In that special it's set up like it takes place after the Paradox Saga and before the Land of Summons story, but Thief is there. I try to keep good continuity between comics, like #80's plot is mostly there to be good continuity with an old comic, but sometimes you just gotta disregard continuity when it's in the way of having fun. Not like it's a major problem here. Just roll with it. -I love the Wii Sports clue. It makes me smile. -So Wii-PO's monster form is a Bugster from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, but in unique colors similar to a Nintendo Wii. I did not customize this toy, but rather painted it digitally. I had gotten done with the comic earlier than expected and I just wanted to see if I could do it. I think it doesn't work great in some panels, but overall I think it worked. If I ever need to use this form again, I might do a proper custom. -Decided to use Blade in his Raider form for this fight just because I haven't used it that much. -I rewrote the ending a few times. Once I got into the Star Trek mindset of not showing the ejection of the pod, it came together. One alternate ending would've been Blade locking away Wii-PO's head, but this ending was faster and the other ending would've needed another set. -This is technically a bottle episode as it only uses common sets that are used by the spaceship, but it's also the first time these sets have been used, so yeah. ___________________________________________________________________________________ I have one more thing to share today. The point here is the next story I want to tell is Thief fighting other thieves for a treasure, the sword in front of Thief. I hope to get going on it soon, but I make no promises for when it'll be out. Either way, it was a great cover idea and I had to make it. |
