I'm disappointed and confused.
These pictures do seem suspiciously high res for this early on... Maybe they're fake? :D |

But I love Pink's energetic pose. |
The thing I just realized....the way they are placed on the poster is supposed to emulate a train :lol
|
Another easy pass this year. Ugh.
|
I dont know about the mecha. I really hate that wide torso long leg look. The suit designs. Ill warm up to them. I dont like the train tracks on the visors. The couldve cut the part on the visors. It just looks so weird and off putting. But I do love the pink ranger already.

Mecha gives me a Steve Urkel look. Like it's pants are up to it's chin.
Did I do that? Yes, yes you did Steve. |

I know right? :lol
|
Now I'm hoping their final attack is they line up like a train and just rush the monster :lolol

Wow, I went from excited to meh in 30 seconds, the costumes look bland and uninspired to be honest, rail tracks could have been utilised on the costume in a better manner if that was what they were going for.
Plus Tokkyu-oh looks, dare I say it, crap. |

Brilliant :lol

You know I think i'm beginning to understand the blandness of the costumes. They're designed intentionally without a lot of unique identifying features. Mostly to facilitate the "Transfer Transformations". It allows the effects guys and costume designers to easily execute the color swap gimmick on each costume. I can appreciate it from that aspect.
It's more interesting how the toys replicate it by having each figure feature a number dial on their head. And they come with all 5 personalized weapons. You can make any numbered version of that color at that point. |
That isn't really an excuse though. Look at Gaim's gimmick, and sure they all have the same base suits and base shapes but each new Seed provides a unique armour and power set. All they're doing here is using a different colour body sock.
|
After looking at stuff again, I hate it less.
The way TokkyuOh(god these names) comes together is better than dinosaurs floating around, and the simplistic design should at least guarantee the Minipla has full articulation... And the accessory trains are the best kind: not limb swaps. Quote:

I'm not saying it's a great gimmick by any means. But it helps me understand the costumes better. |

Love the helmets though after looking at them long enough :lol |

Anyone else notice that, on Red, the number and track rotund look raised up from the rest of the costume? Almost like that whole piece is velcro'd onto the rest of the costume.
|
Yeah noticed that too. I guess they did it so it would be easier to swap the numbers around. That way they only have to make new helmets and not completely new suits for every number.

Oh, and I hate the everything. The suits look dumb, the mecha looks idiotic, and the weapons look dull. |

All that complexity has been lost since. Gekiranger was a joke in the DX department, super simplistic. Go-Onger while I love it, suffered from simplified chunky proportions, Shinkenger has the worst cluster combo ever, Goseiger (while I also love) features an obtrusive gimmick that leaves a bit to be desired, and so on. |

The designs are ugly
|
Im curious to the reaction to this in Japan...

We got quotes when KyoryuPink was the only female member and why they did that so hopefully they'll come out and talk about these costumes. |
Now what do I think?
The suits could use a bit more white. The weapons are from go-Onger. The giant robot is in desperate need of a chestplate and it's boxier than LiveBoxer. |

Hmm, maybe if the suits had a secondary colour to them, like maybe yellow lines on a station platform. the picture of the mech is still looking horrible but I'll probably pick up the minipla if it's got good posing ability (something kyoryuger has been missing unfortunately)

Between being excited about Tokkyuger, this is my following thought process:
- Tokkyger is train themed - Kyoryuger is dino themed - The last few vs films have had past Sentai appear - Go-Onger has Dino trains - Kyoryuger has introduced the concept of spirit rangers. Dear Toei, Please introduce one of the best toy-only things BoA has ever done into Super Sentai in the next vs movie. Yours sincerely, ZeoRangerV :D |
I thought being gone all day would let these designs grow on me. But I think they've actually gotten worse.
|
Obviously I'm waiting for the show to decide my opinion on the whole series, but....yeah, at this point the production design doesn't seem nearly up to snuff considering the top notch stuff Kyoryuger has given us
|
After looking at them some more and getting over the shock, they aren't bad. They're just....missing things. The Tokkyu-Oh is a mess.If the chest wasn't so close to his neck and it maybe had a belt or waist piece, then I wouldn't mind it.I think the same for the suits. They look ok,but like they're missing something.Maybe a vest,or better chest piece. All that being said,I think any one of us could come up with a better train combiner then this.
Oh and Baltmatrix, you're right. The numbered circles are raised some, but I think it's just bad costume design.Would be an insane trolling if these were all early designs and not the finished product.lol |
