Really? I actually like that character alot. There was a surprising depth to the character with him not being a "funny guy" but more a poor guy who never fit in anywhere and is actually pretty insecure.

My complaints with him are in the "Power Rangers acting terrible?" thread. I actually went into depth why as well.

You see, I love discussions like this because it really shows the world that the Power Rangers they think exists is nothing to do with the actual franchise. Yes Power Rangers is made for a different culture than Sentai and yes Sentai can get away with a lot more but that doesn't mean that Power Rangers is just this awful, cut and paste hack job where people badly dub over Japanese footage and call it a day.

At times Sentai has shown far more cutting and pasting than Power Rangers has ever done and Power Rangers has tackled some pretty diverse topics and themes and always features far less xenophobic casting and representations of things.

Power Rangers deserves far more credit than many people in this forum give it credit for and I will defend it, warts and all, until the end.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, there are Sentais that blow a lot of PR out of the water, whether they were adapted or not. But there are PR seasons that are in fact much better than Sentai. And honestly PR is fun to watch. I think DosmRider put it best in that whether the show is bad or good you should respect PR for how much it's willing to deviate from it's source material and how they work around it to create their own thing.

Why is Zordon treated as a good leader? Ninjor built the powers and Alpha did all the work in the Command Center...All Zordon ever seemed to do is say "Turn to the viewing globe."

Even Ivan said in the movie that Zordon drafted a new team. That's all he does, and he doesn't even do that. Alpha has to find them for him because he's stuck in a giant masonry jar. You're absolutely right. And Gosei? Right there beside him. All he did was hang on the wall like a decoration for hundreds of years ignoring everything around him. RJ built the morphers, Udonna fought before and after she was captured. And atleast she actually did some damn mentoring! There's a whole slew of mentor characters that actually mentored. Even Ji mentored (Albiet because it was a direct translations and he mentored in Shinkenger, but still. He mentored). I agree with you completely on this. The most mentoring Zordon has ever done was telling Andros to kill him to save the galaxy.

At the realization of that, I think Zordon has replaced Shayla as worst mentor.
Say what you want about her, but at least Princess Shayla played an important role in converting Merrick back to human...

Lets not forget the woman that took Zordon's place. Divatox's sister. That is if anybody remembers her. She was just as bad a Zordon. Well, she actually gave advice more often than he did, if memory serves correctly. Plus, she and Alpha 6 made the Robo Turbo Rangers. Or were they made before she showed up? I can't remember that line of events for some reason. Someone please clarify that for me!

Zordon bestowed the Turbo powers on the Zeo Rangers and a lone 12-year-old and then, after Dimitria took over because....reasons, she had the former Zeo Rangers pass said powers off to a new batch of people.

And yeah, Dimitria gave advice. Piss poor advice that the Rangers had to decipher because Dimitira was from a planet that friggin Edward Nigma would say goes overboard with the riddles, but it was advice nonetheless.

I know how they got their powers. But I meant the Robo Turbo Rangers. Did they get developed before or after Zordon left back for Eltar with Alpha 5 to defend it.

Imagine Power Rangers: The Twilight Zone. They weren't utilized much (Read: Never), but the concept was great. A group of Turbo rangers to be used should the real rangers were out of commission or on another mission.

Demitria was a terrible, terrible leader, but her riddles were important for one thing: To get the rangers to think. It wasn't a wise decision, but it was good for making the rangers figure out a solution rather than just being told "Shoot there, stupid."

I believe in Lightspeed it was more like "Humans are faulty, our robots are better." storyilne. Could misremember that par though.

I can't really remember. It's been years since I've seen that. And Captain Micthell was a pretty good mentor, if we're still on about that.

Checked again and yes thats what it was. Mitchells Superiors had the Cyborg Rangers created to replace the Lightspeed rangers.

Captain Mitchel was a great leader. Not my favorite, but I enjoyed him.

It's a shame, too. The idea of building robotic rangers to fill in for the normal rangers or pick up the slack is good.
It sucks, since they were both only around for one episode and were never used (Turbo) or weren't fixed after they malfunctioned (Lightspeed).

Its an idea worth exploring that was never really use. The Idea of Machines being better than Humans since they just act and dont have the downside of moral thinking etc. etc.

I can actually understand why they don't explore that idea. It's a rather heavy theme that can fill entire novels to explore and explain.
To put such themes in a children's show would either be too dreary for the audience if properly explored or too basic and one note if they only scratch the surface.

A team of robotic heroes is one thing. To explore the idea of AI being superior to humanity is like asking Asimov to make a Power Rangers season :lol

Actually, if you ask me, I think that is what made the psycho rangers so dangerous. They didn't have emotions. They had one function, kill the rangers and destroy anything in their way, by any means necessary.

They did have emotions, but their obsession with the rangers was their primary trait, which was an issue.
A robot character who is directly programmed to do one thing would be a dangerous character, though.

They get visually angry at each other, most notably during the all blue trick, where Psycho Blue starts yelling (And possibly even attacking) his other Psycho rangers because they attacked the rangers (Since he felt only he had the right to kill the blue ranger).

I attributed that to his programming. Blue was his and his alone. Anything else that got in his way, destroy it. And if something else destroyed his target, destroy them, thus destroying his target by proxy.
