Yup, Sigma. Looks pretty awesome.
Not a huge fan of the all-black Condorer core though. It makes the handles look really disjointed. Aside from that, though, I'm a fan. Also, if I'm reading the official site correctly, they made this guy by using the Amazon cells on a corpse. So I guess Maehara did die after all. Darn that is morbid. Also I think it doesn't need to eat protein. |
Kamen Rider Amazons is getting a second season

Awww yisssss, second season for the win!
|
Episode 9 was pretty creepy with the human flesh burgers and that one corpse in the fridge. Sigma looks pretty cool, but I wish there was more to him than a belt and a new color scheme to differentiate him from Omega's first form.
|
Episode 8 had an interesting twist were the one killing humans was an actual human. And while Haruka, and Nozomi for obvious reasons, wanted to go beast mode on him, Jim the rest of the squad drawing the line at only killing Amazons, kinda wish they went a little longer with this particular episode to explore that a little more. Although I'm pretty sure Nozomi got the last hit in so I guess it's good for now. Although I do think Haruka's sister is going to be really disappointed when they do meet back up.
Episodes 9, I like the concept of the Cannibal restaurant for the Amazons who are trying to not awaken. Disgusting, especially in the one scene you can see the poor bastards head in the background while the chef is grinding up the rest of him, but an interesting concept. But it does make Haruka's proclamation of "He'll protect who he want to protect" seem really naive at this point. Especially since he wanted let the ones eating the cooked people go because they haven't awaken, despite the fact they were eating people. But on a side note it is nice to see how close Haruka and the rest of the team are becoming, especially the scene where they're having some fun at Nozomi's expense. On a side note, her face was still a litlle scratched up from the previous episode, so bonus points for the continuity tough there As for the new Sigma, I'm going to have to go back and see because I can;t remember if he was the one who ended up being an Amazon or the one who was being eaten by him in those early episodes because I can't remember. |
Sigma was the one being eaten by the one team member who turned. Could have sworn they did a flashback to it in the episode.

In retrospect, watching this episode with lunch may not have been my brightest idea. :lol

Sigma is kind of cool although it would have been nice if they had kitbashed some difference in the suit.
Is there any significance to the letter sigma though? Alpha and omega are first and last and possibly references to animal behavior but sigma seems a bit random. |
Been a while since I posted last, but the newest episode of Amazons was so good that it warrants my thoughts.
First off, Amazons is an amazing project with fantastic content, a great atmosphere, and solid pacing. I think its a great idea for Toei to expand their series like Marvel did with their Netflix series' and web-based streaming is an ideal platform for that. They are crafting a Kamen Rider series devoid of all the clutter in the Sunday morning shows and its really hearkening back to the early Heisei era's prime (no pun intended). As a whole, I enjoy the show so far, but a few of the episodes have been hit or miss. I hated episode 8, and episode 9 was subpar, but ep 10 was just amazing. The writing is good, the conflict setup is excellent, the action is amazing and the editing is tight. The introduction of Amazon Sigma is adding a great dynamic to an already well-written show (again, minus ep 8). This is Kobayashi working her last-quarter magic again. But man, I have to say it here - Ryuta Tasaki is probably the best director Kamen Rider has. Today's episode was extremely well shot. He knows how to frame and has an almost art-house style that's not prevalent in a lot of Toku directors. And his action direction, though not as bombastic as Sakamoto, is more grounded and is definitely fierce. I love this series, glad season 2 is happening, and I am excited to see what kind of projects could spawn going forward. Kuuga remake, anyone? |
There's no way Omega could survive an attack like that. Sigma's arm went through his chest! But in the preview it shows him being perfectly fine after some treatment of course. It makes me wonder if he has slme regenerative abilities.
|
I thought it was tradition for a Rider to take a mortal wound to the chest and survive.

Major "oh no's" headed our way next week for certain characters. :(

Episode 11 was fantastic with great character moments, especially for the Extermination Squad, and the tag battle against Sigma was AWESOME. I love the sound design in this show.
But that ending. HOLY SHIT. I didn't expect this kind of set up. Looks like our final boss for season 1 is set, and I really didn't think it'd go down this way. I am pleasantly surprised. Gonna be an intense and heartwrenching last 2 episodes. |

Caught up through episode 10; man, this show is so good. The explanation behind Sigma is really unsettling and he makes for a great enemy. The preview for the next episode does lessen the cliffhanger a little, but I'm still really excited to see what happens next.
I freaking love this show. |

Also, while Sigma himself is a cheap tool to get Haruka and Jin teaming up, it’s rather obvious that that's just for the end of season one, there's still hope that season two will end with Alpha and Omega duking it out. |
Punched through the heart and you're to blame...
Although I am slightly sad that it's Sigma who is shaping up to be the final villain of season one. I was hoping Nozama Pharma by itself would be one like Museum or Yggdrasil. But maybe there is hope enough for season two. As for Jin, I am uncertain. A small part of me wants him to be the final villain but I find him too good a character to be the final villain. Call me immature but I always like my final villains to be irredeemable bastards whom the hero can merrily tear to shreds/shoot full of holes/reduce them to ashes. Takayama Jin is too complex a character in my opinion to be used as a final villain. But then again, this isn't your regular Kamen Rider show so it might be wrong of me to expect it to be so clear-cut after all. |
Ever since watching the Neo-Heisei riders, I always thought to myself how Toei can simplify things again and attract me to a rider show without the cool form changes or the abundance in riders. The reason I didn't enjoy Kuuga was because I just got off to finishing something like Gaim or Drive to where it was more about toys and gimmicks but, I'm glad this show came along and reminded me that a well-directed,serious Kamen Rider always beats out one with a million toys. Mini-Rant because I love this show alot and watching Ghost simultaneously along with it makes me enjoy every episode more.

Episode 10 ends with quite the cliffhanger! This show's great.
|
Nice to see some sort of splinter between the Captain of the squad and Haurka, who may be at the headstrong teenager stage if Momaru is this childlike. Sigma was pretty much a robot like Jin said he was. It does put an interesting twist on thing. despite the fact he's practically a zombie and doesn't eat people. And speaking of Jin, when he said he'd kill all the amazons, he really meant all of them. Wonder what Hahana would think about that. and it looks like there's going to be an interesting power play in Nozama, perhaps a massacare, before the next rain.

Subs up for Ep 11

Damn that episode... I really liked the idea with the coins, but the ending... oh no. Watching it I muttered "Oh shit!" over and over again like 10 times :lol
I knew this day would come, but I don’t want it to happen, nooooooooo... :cry |

I'm also calling it now: old dude in the wheelchair is totally an Amazon. |

Wouldn't be surprised if that's how it plays out, with the chairman revealing that all this time he ran the company with the goal to evolve the human race (or extinguish and replace them with Amazons) so that his kind can rule supreme. And by the end of season two he transforms into an Uber Amazon. Also, they say Haruka is special. What if Haruka is a clone of the chairman, the first Amazon? That could kinda play out that by the end of the show the surviving Amazons accept Haruka as their leader and they leave Japan to live away from humanity. |
I'm also expecting the old guy to be an amazon and maybe even be the final villain. Or Tachibana might even turn himself into an Amazon. Or even Mamoru could be the final boss after eating some human steak.
Also, does anyone else expect season 2 to be the very end of the show? The episode titles all follow an alphabetical pattern, so 13 in season 1 and 13 in season 2 would be the whole alphabet. Who knows? We'll have to see. |

Finally managed to watch the last couple of episodes, damn. This show is really good.
First off, I am satisfied that I was correct in assuming that Sigma would end up being little more than a different sort of Amazon of the Week, as indeed he was. He was a non-character but as a plot device he served his purpose and he served it well. I'm unfussed about his passing. Anyway, they've done a great job building up the team around Mamoru, so having it all go to shit the next couple of episodes is gonna be amazing. I actually had had a hard time really caring about Mamoru much so far, but episode 11 really finally got me invested in him...only for the end to make me regret my developing emotions. For that matter, I also didn't care so much about Jin, but these couple of episodes finally fixed that as well. The end of this season is gonna be great. Apparently the 13th episode is simply titled M. It's gonna be a tearjerker. I can't wait. |

Well I've caught up on Amazons now and the show has really improved. At the beginning I wasn't really invested in the show (maybe because I felt burnt out on toku) but as the show has gone on its really improved. Sigma was alright, but he definitely could be a sign of things to come in season two.
So when does everyone think that season two will come out? I'm thinking maybe sometime later this year considering last month it was announced and toku episodes are typically filmed near their release date. |

Okay, punched through the chest, just get an order of ribs and have him chow down. That was a surprisingly quick fix for that situation. But it was nice to see "Mommy" had some feelings for Haruka's situation. And even if her assistant ended up being a good guy, or as close to good anybody in that organization can be, I still want somebody to punch him in the face. Just something about him... as for Sigma, well like a couple have said, I thgought he was going to last longer, at least until the end of this season. Although I'm wondering if Jin going to make to next season at this point. And Momaru.. I knew it had to happen eventually but it still sucks that it is.
