Aizen reenacting Ultraman Orb is just pure gold. And I love the Orb cameo before that. It's just amusing seeing Orb just staring at Cereza like that.

Episode 16 - Please tell me Aizen isn't done. He comes back for sure, right? He has to. Curious where things are headed with Tsuru, I did not expect her to take over the villain role all on her own. She’s an interesting character though, she doesn’t seem chaotic evil, but she sure has some plan in mind.
I agree with previous posts in that they could portray the brother’s interactions within Rübe a bit better. I mean, their freakin' Matrix of Leadership (thanks Sunred) has two handles, don’t tell me they can't hold the thing together in this instance. Other than that, great stuff once more. A small detail I noticed: I kinda love how they used CG to animate the monsters face, the eyes in particular; it makes it more dynamic without being a completely computer generated model. |

You know, signs are pointing out that Ultrawoman Grigio might be Saki Mitsurugi instead of Asahi.

It would make more sense for Asahi to do that instead of Saki. On the other hand, maybe Saki is the sister of the original Rosso and Blu? That would be kinda cool actually. |

Although Asahi is also currently implied not to be a human too so who knows. |
However it turns out, I do hope we see Ultrawoman Grigio in the show.
I'm afraid she might be movie exclusive :( |

So we had a silly halloween episode with no real villains at all and somehow it was still really good. Also some surprisingly revealing character development for Saki. Also Asahi is now pretty much the heard of the show, which is not something I thought I would ever say when the show started.
Whatever the show's writers are being paid, it isn't enough. |
The "slice of life" - alien episodes are among my favorite things in Ultraman and this one does not disappoint. Gotta say, the model builds were especially gorgeous this time around. Also, seeing Rosso and Blu goofing around is great.
Only thing I do not like is how Aizen is now completely removed from the OP - I still hope he comes back. It's good that they're moving on from his arc but they could still fit him in there I think :( |

It's filler but I actually really liked it. Tsuru and Asahi's dynamic is still pretty entertaining. Booska is a pretty deep cut, coming from a different Tsuburaya property, though this isn't his first encounter with Ultraman. And some 11th hour plot |

More Ultraman R/B movie pictures, including our first look at Ultrawoman Grigio, the first female Ultra we've had in decades who's human host is confirmed to be Asahi. |
Is that Saki's gyro? Makes sense I guess

Thoughts on R/B:
I had a ton of fun watching this. The show nails its family dynamic and emotional core, it has some of best comedy of the New Generation Ultra shows, and I never really knew where it was going. Whenever I thought a plot point was going to go one way, the show throws a curve ball and goes another way, often for the better. While there are a fair share of issues, such as some of the plot points not sticking, or how the show could be fleshed out more if there were more episodes (which granted is a problem that plagues all the New Generation Ultra shows), those are all relatively minor for something I still found very enjoyable |
Finally finished up watching the rest of the show. And then some, actually, because I was away from it for long enough I just decided to start back from the recap episode, which I definitely think helped me ease back into things.
Overall I'm really satisfied with it. R/B had the odds stacked against it between not getting official subs and being the designated "goofy" series after the rather serious Geed, so I can only hope it gets the recognition it deserves for being just as good as the last few Ultra shows. I tried stressing this in several of my posts about individual episodes, but R/B is deceptively simple. Despite the lower stakes and a general laid-back tone, it's extremely clever and clearly made with the same amount of love and care as any of its contemporaries. The show sells itself on being offbeat, and on that front it succeeds spectacularly due to a winning combination of perfect comedic timing, and an ability to mess with the franchise's traditions without losing its spirit. It's very much The Un-Ultraman Show in a lot of ways, and because of that it feels super fresh. I cannot stress enough how entertaining the dynamic between Rosso and Blu is. There's just nothing like it anywhere else in the franchise. And even when they aren't transformed, Katsumi and Isami are great together. The family drama at the core of the show is another huge point in its favor, coming off as genuine and heartfelt rather than cheesy and trite, and despite nominally being a show about two brothers, the entire family gets their share of the spotlight. Asahi especially became one of my favorite characters in the show pretty quickly, which I was NOT expecting at all, and on top of all that, R/B also has two excellent, and fairly atypical main villains who elevate the show that much further. I have a few complaints, namely specific things I felt could be done better, such as Katsumi and Isami running around talking about their duty as Ultramen in the last few episodes, which I get, but I still think it ruins how utterly perfect them specifically saying they aren't Ultramen just a couple episodes earlier was. Gripes like this are minor when looking at the bigger picture, though, and in a lot of ways R/B exceeded my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised to find out Ruebe didn't dominate the fight scenes the way I thought he would, for example. R/B is a darn good show that totally stands on its own merits, and because of that I can easily recommend it both to Ultra fans and to people who've never given the franchise a shot before. |
