Shout Factory USA has finally made it to Deka. The wild card here is if they drop Turbo Ranger (Series 13) on us first. I hope Deka doesn't get bumped back to 2024.
|
Don't know if I'm allowed to repost this here but I thought this fancomic fits the Donbrothers WAY too well lol.

Ever notice how the orange Lambda-2000 crystal in Timeranger is remarkable similar to the heads of the Igaroids in Dekaranger?
|
I caught that actually watching Time Ranger on DVD.
Once I finish Aba from Shout I will have seen 22 series counting Ryu Soul dating back to Zyu (MMPR I) to Go Busters. Closing out the remaining episodes Galaxy Man - Aba. |
I just remembered the Gokaiger Christmas episode where they meet a mall Santa and the episode's twist being that Santa was actually Battle Fever J's Battle Kenya. Can't help but wonder what kids who believed in Santa thought about the episode when it aired. Did they come to think that Santa was actually a Ranger or did they have their worldview shattered?
The implications are kind of hilarious. |
Well maybe some kids might but most of the time a past Ranger will show up hidden in sight which isn't a total surprise. I had streamed Gokai myself and watched some on DVD.
|
I really hope King Oh-ger doesn't use base suits for the monsters. I'm a little sick of the MOTWs having the same undersuits and just modifying the head and a portion of the chest.

I mean, Rider’s way more successful; and it’s been re-using monster undersuits for every Reiwa series so far. I think this is more to do with them finding a way to save money in an area that will cost them no customers
|
I hope to be caught up to Don Bros in 2024.
I was wondering with the series being region locked for me an other places to see 1975 - Turbo Ranger? 5 Man and Jet Man are on Shout Factory DVD.1975 is when they started the first series. |
As far as the base suits for the monsters goes, the worst, imo, was kiramager. Even a dummy like me could notice they were just swapping the heads on those things. Also I think it was kiramager, but the crotches on those suits were ravaged, man. I don?t know what the heck was going on. People were sliding around in sandpaper or something.
I?ll leave with the words of a wise man https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r85Q56k31FI |
I'm not an '70's kid, but having spent a ot of my childhood watching '70s-'80s mecha shows on YouTube, hearing Battle Fever J's openng made me feel extremely nostalgic.
If you haven't heard Battle Fever J's opening, well, how do I describe it? It's just undeniably late '70s. And it's glorious. That's all I can say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrIMlwGeHWI |

As hard as it is to believe, Shirakura said in an interview Rider's suit budget was less than Sentai. This is why arcs get stretched out into two-parters and why some villains aren't killed off right away |

Not sure if that plays into the consideration nowadays, though. But I could see inertia kind of taking over and the higher suit budget continuing for no reason. |
I've also heard that while Sentai doesn't do well in terms of toy sales, it does do well in sales of things like photobooks etc among fans. Lupat especially did well there. Perhaps it's a thing of the shows themselves doing well despite toy sales so more budget is allocated there, while Rider needs less to succeed financially

Completely different shows and company and situation, but something this reminded me of.
Way back when, when the US basic cable channel AMC was airing Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Walking Dead all at the same time, there was a bit of a controversy about AMC massively slashing the budget for Walking Dead and running out the creative staff. At the time all three shows were big, but Walking Dead was massive and was the biggest show on TV. Breaking Bad and Mad Men were more prestige type things but Walking Dead was prestigious and a cash cow. (Massively oversimplifying here). It was really weird that the budget would be cut for the biggest show on the network and the budgets would be left alone for the comparatively smaller ones. Turns out there was a whole bunch of behind the scenes business reasons for it: AMC wholly owned walking dead, while it was licensing out from another studio for the other two shows. Anyway, my point with this tangent is that it?s not unheard of for a big money maker show to get nickel and dimed, while money is lavished on a smaller show. Is it 100% relevant to this situation? Probably not, but I just like to share. |
Doctor Who had cash problems during the 12th Doctor with props and what not but geven the cheap build they still put out great year runs each year it was on.
On another note I watched both PR and SS so I don't miss any episodes. Now I'm full on Toei with non stop new ones all the time and no weeks off. I picked up Zen recently so I'm a year behind. Kyo - Zen has been non stop new for me with Don Bros due in April or May. |

I have movies on DVD due to the fact the stream rights expire out. Also some TV shows.
Nobody runs past episodes of Pocket Monsters US Dub any more. It's only Sun and Moon and Journeys. |
On certain occasions, you'll have a Sentai that intentionally erases people's memories. In Hurricanger, robots are used to accomplish this so that the team can operate in secrecy as ninjas. In Goseiger, this is done to spare people the trauma of enduring terror and fear and pain and helps the team maintain their anonymity as guardian angels in training. This can seem appropriate given the right set of circumstances, but it could also be construed as villainous given that a monster or interplanetary invasion force is more likely to alter people's minds. Granted, you could argue that villains do it for selfish reasons and a Sentai only does it out of necessity, but a given team still gets something out of it all the same.

I've noticed since Zenkaiger every season's suits have been bulkier and incorporated more armored elements.
I wonder if that's to help their designs translate better to toys. |
I think it might also be to make the designs stand out more and seem 'cooler'
|
Amazon Prime has Zyu - Hurri up. You guys might need
a subscription for the Shout Factory feed. Next month I might activate it and catch up the Rider shows they have as well. DL the episodes to watch off line. I'll see if Jet Man is up and watch it after I finish 5 Man. |
I know I'm in a hurry and I should have waited for the Kingohger, but still... After Zenkaiger and the Donbrothers, do you think it's time to introduce the term 7th Ranger? Will such an anti-hero now appear constantly, because he allows you to sell more toys? And given that the Kingohger has a purple ranger on the main team, what color would the seventh be?
|
5 Man has been getting a lot of hate from
people for whatever reason. Having seen 6 episodes so far this one went the other way and is a good series that seems to unexpectedly get stronger as the over all plot goes on. Each episode seems to focus on one of humanity's attributes and attack it. |

Zenkai and DonBros are cut from very similar cloths, so I want to see if a more removed series follows their footsteps. |

There was one factor that people would watch hoping
Shout Factory would bring over Turbo Ranger to dip further into pre Zyus. The forward is also true so maybe Shout will bring over Magi. Sometimes people will watch and enough to warrant Shout bringing over another one. We got Aba and Deka. It could have been a ride it out factor. |

- Sunred's position of "Fiveman suffers from same-old-same-old" isn't entirely wrong, nor is the position that Winspector was popular at the time. - Another thing that has come up over the years is that the Fiveman toys weren't of great quality. Probably not a good idea to put down a lot of money for a packaged sidearm, cause it may yellow or break! By comparison, the Winspector Giga Streamer was touted as one of the popular toys of that period. - There was also backlash around that time against Otaku culture. I think a high-profile murder case may have led to some shakeups, hence why Winspector is "Rescue Heroes" and Fiveman has a familial focus angle. Dig around on earlier thread postings for more. |
Didn't Fiveman also introduce a mech that got destroyed permanently after like 3 episodes or is that something twitter lied about?
|
I only watched 6 episodes so far so I haven't seen that yet.

Magma Base didn't do a whole lot, and the ultimate combination Max Magma did even less! Episodes 29 and 44 really constitute the brunt of what they can do. The finale trashes the base and any potential for a future Gattai to make the Big Bad seem powerful and threatening and to put the focus on a flower! |
I'm watching Hurri having seen the perfume incident today.
I'm not sure if what happened to Crimson Ranger had happened to Hunter in Ninja Storm so I'm a little confused here. I also ask this as for 5 episodes of Lightspeed Rescue Ryan had trouble with a cobra tattoo. What was Crimson Ranger infected with in Hurri? |
I do love seeing King-Ohger changing up the costume formats. Those undersuits are definitely not spandex, very Heisei Rider-ish if you ask me.
