And frankly this sounds a lot like the emotional spectrum from Green Lantern.

I also thought the Gavan Infinity and other Gavans have a circle symbol and their circle symbol reminds me of Gozyuger's circle symbol.

Because Gavan Infinity is still using the framework from the Super Sentai series despite Gavan Infinity is not a Super Sentai series. Gavan Infinity is also not Metal Heroes revival.

Gozyuger's Tegasword is popular among fans, so Toei tries to recreate the weapon as a robot again in the Gavan Infinity series.

Sentai with a coat of paint. Three-person color-coordinated team. Transforming giant mecha. Hits a bit like Go-Busters: 3-character team, variation on the look. The color scheme is pared down to red and the traditional 6th hero colors. Probably losing the Sentai name is intended to draw interest. "Ooh, is this a new thing?"

I wouldn't even be a little surprised by a dance for the opening or closing.

Just took a closer look at the scans and WOW, Luminous gets the weapon that looks ridiculous.

Red Gavan reminds me of that armoured Dekared from... whatever movie that was in. The 3 Gavans all look very cool though. I'm into it!

Apparently not a team, but rather 3 solo Gavans from different space police branches in different universes, which explains why they're all Gavans and not other-named Uchuu Keiji. Their design similarities and weapons do suggest some kind of collaboration between their branches though.

She has the same sword as Gavan Bushido, so looks like these weapons can be used by any Gavan.

Huh, didn't realise that Luminous was a woman. That's honestly really good suit design. Nothing against feminine suits, but female suits with more diverse designs outside of curves and tertiary feminine characteristics are always welcome.

The head writer seems to be Atsuhiro Tomioka. He did Boonboomger and has a looot of anime credits. Not my favorite guy going off the anime he's done that I have seen (seems like a very "traditional" writer) but he isn't overrepresented in tokusatsu so I'll give him a shot.

I mostly dislike Boonboomger, so I'm disappointed with the choice of writer. However, I'll still give it a shot, since I want to support the return of Metal Heroes.

Makes sense. I imagine Gozyuger the 50th Sentai was supposed to have 50 episodes, but one got cut due to the behind the scenes problems. 49 episodes is an average number for Sentai though, so I'm cool with that.

Well, the first pair of Gavans would always say, "Believe in courage!" and I guess courage is technically an emotion, so maybe it works. Not as clearly as Spielvan though.

Oh, lord, some of those other ships scream "toy" so loud. The one tipped with a crane hook. The one tipped with a drill that looks an awful lot like it turns into a dino mech.

Not sure Toei has gotten the memo that Marvel Studios has pretty much run the multiverse concept into the ground already.

I’m getting worried.

They’re building up high expectations, going so far as saying that they need to stand on the same global stage as Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man, yet all I’m seeing is Super Sentai wearing a fake mustache and a sombrero hat.

They have the opportunity to make something truly special after ending Super Sentai but instead this looks like Miss Sophie sitting down at an empty dining table, proudly proclaiming: "The same procedure as every year, James."

It also pains me that Gavan has to lend its name to whatever this is supposed to be. I get the beauty of wanting to repeat the miracle of pumping big money into a project that by all means has the power to be a gigantic failure, but just make something new guys. The constant reuse of legacy names instead of mustering bravery to create the unseen is a blight on the entertainment industry.

Honestly, my interest in this almost entirely deteriorated as soon as I saw that the batteries had stupid cartoon faces on them. They don't match the rest of the aesthetic this is going for at all.

I get that feeling. Personally though, I decided that I'll always wait to see it in-context before letting that feeling "solidify" after Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. I remember loathing that suit design and its entire aesthetic before the show started, but something about seeing it in action within the context of the first episode made it amazing. Hopefully it'll work out like that!

Honestly the little battery guys don't surprise me. Do you all know how well Gochizo's sold? And the fact that they're still making sets for them them despite Gavv ending? Not to mention just the trend of just little scrunkos for transformation devices of varying types they've been on for Rider.

There's also Tegasword, a transformation device/weapon robo, selling fairly well too. To where they cleared Tegajune for retail release instead of relegating her to P-Bandai.

This is very much them seeing what worked in the past and running with it. Like it or not, they're going after what was successful and while people deride the trinket aspect of Toku, it sells.

I kind of get why people don't like the designs of the Emolgia, but my honest reaction to seeing the things was "thank goodness this show remembers it is a tokusatsu". Zeztz is also aimed internationally and I think that show has a lot of elements that feel like the show is trying too hard to be cool and wrapping right back around into making me roll my eyes. A bunch of batteries with silly looking faces somehow feels like a relief in comparison, even if they aren't the most alluring transformation trinkets to me.

I do feel like Gavan Infinity is already running into a lot of perception issues though and THAT makes me nervous about how the new series will be received. There are people who are hostile to the new show because they have a strong attachment to Sentai and the show is borrowing a lot from it, people who are annoyed that the show uses the Gavan name but so little from the Metal Hero series, people who are upset that the show isn't looking MORE different from prior tokusatsu shows. I'm worried that in an attempt to create a wide appeal for Gavan Infinity we will end up in a situation where no one is fully satisfied. I do genuinely hope the new series does well and is warmly received but it's going to be an uphill battle.

I get why other people are worried, but I'm honestly having the opposite reaction. Before, I think I was kind of subconsciously putting this in the same category as more obscure toku by smaller studios, plenty of potential to be good but limited in what it can do and how much of an audience it can reach. This trailer, with the suits in action and the fleet of ships, made it click in my head that how much experience and resources and general oomph Toei is bringing to bear on this show. Sure it won't be to everyone's taste and it's too soon to say whether this big gamble will ultimately pay off, but I'm cautiously excited!

The plot description emphasizing that these three Gavans are NOT a team, that they operate in fully different universes, also gives me hope that this will be more than just Sentai by another name

I realize my previous post was ambiguous about this so I do want to emphasize that I personally think this show looks like it will be good! It looks like it will have a unique combination of characteristics at worst and has the potential to really stand out at best. I'm just worry about all the negativity and confusion I see from some folks.

Personally I don't mind the Sentai comparisons because this is, for better or worse, a Sentai replacement for now. Even if it's also revamping Gavan and doing its own thing.

I love how the little touches make the costumes distinct and yet still say a lot about the characters. Also, I haven't followed the thread in a while, but Golden Gavan looks like a woman. As for the robot, it looks a bit unfinished. Which is probably logical, because according to rumors, elements of the characters will be added to it.

Feels like each Gavan is meant to represent an element of OG!Gavan.

Gavan Infinity -> Cyberian?

Gavan Bushido -> Silver sword wielding Gavan.

Gavan Luminous -> Mini?

Makes sense to make Infinity red, if that's the case. :rock:
As for Bushido, I think it would be more Dolgiran because of the silver and blue.

If they were, then that makes the designs better in my eyes.
