My thoughts on episode 6 of Ultra Galaxy Fight.

The next Ultraman show is to be named Trigger according to them leaks.
My guess is this Ultraman is related to Tregear or Tiga. The latter being more likely since they seem to be pushing Tiga in a lot of things for a while now. Also, hypothetically that this Ultraman uses a gun, would this be the first Ultraman to make use of a gun as their primary weapon? I don't quite recall any Ultramen using firearms as their primary weapons. |
Guns are pretty rare in Ultraman. Everyone's got beam attacks anyway. The first thing that comes to mind is the Victory Lancer, but I don't think he ever used gun mode in Ultra form. He did also use the King Joe Launcher, but that's certainly not 'primary'.
If you're willing to go super deep, Dr E.G. has the E.G. scanner, which I guess counts. |
So at the same time as kamen rider sword, we have ultraman gun.
|
And I already have visions of Luna-Trigger from Kamen Rider W when reading that leak!
I'd rather see an Ultra hold a blaster as opposed to something that looks like a legitimate revolver or rifle. Since such things don't seem to be the norm, I feel the urge to speculate off hand here: * It could be a rogue Ultra who became an intergalactic gunman; a Western-ish type who will either help those on his own terms or when someone has something to offer in return. A precipitating incident may set him back on the path to rejoining the Land of Light by helping Earth, however. I could also shorten this as more in the vein of "Ultraman-Meets-Mandalorian"! * That's my spitball based on nothing but the theoretical name. Be awhile before we see if it has merit. |

No you people, don't you see?!
It's time to bring back the signature style of Ultraman Great! FINGER GUNS! |
Ultraman with a gun you say?

So, sorry if I'm sidetracking the conversation here, but if I wanted to start watching Ultraman, which seasons would be good to start with.
|
X is a favourite of mine, and it's one I would definitely recommend. At about 22 episodes long it's a fantastic look not just at the standard set-up of Ultraman shows but also how it's evolved and what morals have become core to the franchise in its 50 year history. Also doesn't hurt that it's got some really sick crossovers!
Another that's often recommended - and what I started with - is Orb, the 50th anniversary show (and the one after X). At about 25 episodes it's a slightly less standard, much weirder show that nevertheless is a great time and one I'm pretty in love with. Something really nice is that all the New Gen shows - all the stuff after the Zero movies - are 25 episodes long at most, so even if you're not digging something it's much easier to give it a watch and see what you think compared to the large 50-something episode commitment of most Toku shows. Most Ultra shows before the Zero movies were about 50 episodes themselves, though there's also notable exceptions such as Max and the OG Ultraman being 39 episodes. And then there's Ginga, which is 12! Basically, you've got a lot of short options if you want to quickly sample what the franchise has to offer. |
Hmm the original 1966 Ultraman I think decent way to start off. Introduces alot of elements that are still reconizable to this day.
Tiga is similar to Kuuga in which was a revival for the franchise and is widely popular for being very innovative and different style from the clsssic Showa. Nexus is "dark" series but the mature themes are balanced by a very unique take on Ultraman and the show at the end of the day is telling you to not give up inspite of the darkness. Mebius is an anniversary season with actors returning and storylines from past shows being brought up. Despite this Mebius anniversary elements in the 1st half is relatively restrained as such time is spent more on the new characters then the old. In fact I've met more people who got into Ultraman through Mebius then any other show. |

Personally though these shows I would like to say are recommendations if you prefer to start with something more modern yet have the most elements of a classic Ultraman show. After giving one of the previous recommendations a watch definitely give the original 1966 Ultraman a try. |
I'm pretty sure we all figured this was happening, but it's nice to have confirmation: Chronicle Tiga & Z is getting a subbed simulcast like Z!

So this is a genuinely nice surprise. |

Just finished Return of Ultraman last week and I gotta say, out of all the Showa series I've seen so far (Q, Man, Seven, and now Jack), I think it's my favorite. You've got some very memorable monsters throughout the entire show's run, the first ever legendary hero crossover, some gorgeous cinematography, Shozo Uehara's writing at the top of his game, and some really fun additions to the formula such as an emphasis on Hideki Go's life outside of MAT. Most episodes are briskly paced, and feature some stunning visual effects work that still holds up today. What I love about it the most is how much of Ishiro Honda you can feel in it. As a Toho daikaiju fan, Return of Ultraman feels more like an extension of that golden era of the 60s than Toho's own Zone Fighter did just two years later. Even though Honda only directed 4 or 5 episodes, including the first two and the last episode, he set the tone by rooting the series in urban Japan and connected the series to a more urban, relatable snapshot of Japan than the more futuristic depictions seen in Ultraman and Ultra Seven. I think that more down to Earth approach made me appreciate this series more than its predecessors, which I also enjoy mind you. Even though I know it's a wildly different series, I am eagerly anticipating finally watching Ultraman Ace (as soon as I finish Carranger). |
After the success of Z, I'm assuming all future series will be put on YouTube. At least until Tsuburaya works out a deal with a global streaming service.

In comparision, Toei I think needs to step their game up and learn a thing or two from the Tsuburaya playbook. It is great they are leaving the classics up indefinitely for fans, but I think they should REALLY consider doing what Tsuburaya does; start doing limited time streaming of current tokusatsu. Because honestly, it feels forced. Even their recent announcement of Kamen Rider shows finally being uploaded felt hardly exciting knowing that it is just old stuff. But back to the topic at hand, I hope they keep on giving fans the current shows like they have recently done. |

Just how many Ultraman comics have they made over the years!?
This isn't even the brunt of what I found cause I think I saw some issues by Viz which specifically mentioned the Ultra Brothers on the covers (no photos, unfortunately). |
Well, thanks to a YouTube channel called “TokuMANIA”, I managed to watch the Ultraman Taiga movie, after a year of buildup. (To the point one person watching Ultraman Z on YouTube admitted he’d memorised the entire trailer). I thought I’d use it as a dry run for my upcoming thread.
So we open the movie with EGIS trying to stop a gang of Dadas from stealing the Stone of Baraj, an artefact from a country that mainly exists to show that Ultramen haven’t always landed in Japan. And for some reason, this is the only appearance by EGIS’ non-human members in the whole film (ignoring the credits montage). To cut a long story short, the robbery is foiled and the Tri-Squad destroy the Dada when he summons his Megazord. We then cut to Taro on the planet Borges, where Ultraman Tregear’s… ghost? illusion? (The movie isn’t clear what it is in this scene, since he’s back alive in the rest of the film). He reveals that his last battle with Ultraman Taiga unleashed a demon named Grimdo that he was keeping in his chest (nice going there). The NewGen heroes tried sacrificing their powers to seal Grimdo away (kind of like that Mebius movie with the Ultra Brothers) but the seal is already breaking. Back on Earth, while the Tri-Squad are discussing something, every humanoid member of the cast ends up going off to investigate the Villain Guild’s latest scheme with various things happening. Hiroyuki meets with Katsumi from the previous season, who claims his store (in reality, it’s more like a stall) is being harassed by an alien, whoch unintentionally has evidence pointing towards a culprit (Taiga notes that one of the people there [Riku] has the essence of Ultraman Belial), Pirika ends up infected with a virus from a black market website from the planet Fanton and gets saved by Daichi Oozora, Boos Lady (I forget her name) gets rescued from Villain Guild members by Gai Kurenai and Homare encounters Kirisaki (see what I mean?) and gets rescued from danger by Hikaru Raido and Shou. Grimdo then makes his appearance, at which point Katsumi and Isami (who was running the store with him) reveal their identities to Hiroyuki and reveal that loss of powers is basically the prop becoming unpainted. Hiroyuki gives them their Ultra-lets back, restoring the paint, er powers of Rosso and Blu. After a short fight in which they seem to have the upper hand, Kirisaki them reveals that Grimdo is only at half power, with the other half being within himself… and the part that’s free still manages to survive the blast and overpower the three Ultras (not helped by Kirisaki stealing his monster rings back from Taiga). It’s at that point that Taro makes his reappearance, aiming to destroy Grimdo with the Ultra Dynamite… which is what it was counting on. When the smoke clears, Grimdo has merged with Taro and proceeds to defeat all three Ultras, with Hiroyuki being saved by Hikaru and Shou, who in return get the paint back on their toys. Taiga’s then has something of a sulk about his dad turning evil to save him (I mean, he is the Ultra equivalent of a moody teen, so it makes some sense), and gets brought out of it by a motivational speech from Hiroyuki and Riku (who introduces himself and gets his Riser fixed). And then it turns out the Tri-Squad don’t need Hiroyuki anymore and have been planning to leave for a while (some friends they are). After Hiroyuki calls them on their bullshit, we cut back to the Super Minato Bros who mention that time moves differently on this Earth, which is why they didn’t show up to help earlier. With the preparation done, everyone goes to confront Kirisaki, who gloats about Earth’s impending destruction at the hands of two Grimdo-powered Ultras. Gai and Daichi then get their toys fixed, allowing for all 8 of our stars to transform (don’t expect a flashy sequence. They just do the pose and show the rise footage). Kirisaki then transforms into Tregear and summons his 5 monsters Hellberus, Segmegler, Gigadelos, Night Fang and Gorothunder so that this qualifies as an epic battle. But the main focus is Taiga’s battle with Tregear, especially when Titas and Fuma split off and join the battle, overpowering the evil Ultra in an epic display of the power of friendship. But then evil Trap comes in and uses his Grimdo powers to buff the 5 monsters, forcing the 7 veterans to assume their strongest forms (Grigio shows up for Rosso and Blu to form Gruebe) in order to blow them up for good. Taiga then frees his dad from Grimdo by fusing with the other two to form Taiga Tri-Strium and using his own variation of the Ultra Dynamite, which only succeeds when the other three do their own Ultra Dynamite (don’t ask how Hiroyuki doesn’t die horribly from setting himself on fire. I don’t know how). However, the half-Grimdo survives, with Tregear sacrificing himself to empower it as a fully-powered giant (by Ultra standards) Grimdo, who surrounds the eastern hemisphere in darkness and proceeds to grab Taro like he’s a damsel (guess part of Tregear controls the monster). Since none of the Ultras can scratch it, Taro suggests they send their energies into Taiga’s ‘Ultra Horns’. This has the effect of turning the 6 into a red Zero Eye, which Hiroyuki uses to turn Taiga into his ultimate form, who effortlessly rescues Taro and shrugs off everything TreGrimdo (Sonce they’ve obviously fused minds, that’s what I’m calling them) throws at him, before using his New Generation-let which he got from… somewhere… to destroy the beast once and for all. With that done, we get a repeat of the ‘passing the torch’ scene from the first episode, only with the human hosts. With everyone gone, it’s now time for the Tri-Squad to leave as well, to star in the next Ultra Galaxy Fight. Boos Lady let’s them know they are now official members of EGIS, with the three getting a really emotional speech about how their friendship is forever, followed by the 4 Ultras (Taro is still there) leaving as we cut to the credits. Overall, would I recommend the movie? It’s been worth the wait, I’ll say that. Whether it’s any good is up to you (I thought it was ok). |
Just watched it myself. It was... eh? It's about what I expected from the trailers, I guess. Mostly an excuse to have a big crossover (unfortunately not a very good one at that), just overall kind of bland with not much going for it. Almost wish I'd just rewatched the Ginga S movie.
Didn't hate it, just... eh. Nothing here really did it for me aside from a momentary "yay!" moment at seeing Gai and Riku and Daiichi. |
About a day late, but new details have been revealed concerning the new release of the UR Spark Lens.
https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000153643/ The texture has been updated to be more screen accurate It now has three modes. Gaining Light, for all of Tiga’s show forms, Gaining Shadow, for transforming into Evil Tiga and Beyond the Light, which is for Tiga’s post show appearances in The Great Hyperspace Battle and The Superior 8 Ultra Brothers. All you gotta do is: 1. Press button to spread wing parts 2. Do henshin pose to trigger motion sounds 3. Press button again to trigger the transformation sound  |
So, I'm guessing that Joneus guy is a fan-favorite? Lotta people were clamoring for him in the comment section. He looks goofy in the cool kind of way.
|
I wonder what significance, if any, there is to having another character named Zett. Interestingly, Z himself is yet to show up...

Can I just point out what an all-star lineup this thumbnail alone is for me? Like, it's got the Tri-Squad (my boys), Grigio (best girl), AND Joneus, the token obscure guy from that anime I fell in love with so much back around when Taiga was on I genuinely like his design now. It's weird to think a series that's already played the Cosmos and 80 cards is still making me this excited to see returning characters. Absolute Conspiracy is such a treat. |

My favorite parts were Andro Melos and Ribut, especially the fact that the revised opener shows that these two will center fairly strongly in the near future. I WANT FIGURES OF BOTH!!! P.S.: Was Zero holding the Ultra Z Riser in the closer? Has me wondering if they're going to do this a disservice by giving Zero another new form! |

So, did Ultimate Life Form, Absolutian, Absolute Tartarus pluck her from another timeline? |
*Grigio Darkness voice* Unhappy....

Why does Ultraseven have bad luck with its episodes? Episode 12 "From a Planet with Love" is banned forever along with Alien Spell, episode 26 "Super Weapon R1" got banned following the Fukushima reactor incident (though still got a home release), and today I learned episode 23 "Revenge For 300 Years" was never made so they skipped to episode 24 "Search For Tomorrow".

Welp, two more episodes left of Ultra Galaxy Fight. Wonder how everything will wrap up.
Cause I have a feeling that suppose Tartarus gets away, he could be the archnemesis to Ultraman Trigger. update: We still got two more episodes left. Thanks to TheTakoTank and Enchilada645 for the correction. https://i.imgur.com/2TmyZuR.png |
Wow, only one more episode left? Yeah, we're gonna have a lot of cliffhangers. I enjoyed this episode, especially becuase Z finally appears! Its also kinda funny that in that first fight, the character I knew about the most was Ribut.
|
Is there one episode left? I keep hearing we have two episodes left.
