Gundam Seed: The Empty Battlefield

I think you guys know that I have a big hatred of the Cosmic Era universe without ever seeing it, so I decided to see it myself.

Fair warning: I haven't seen the second half of this movie yet since I need to do homework but I want to talk about it anyways

It's okay so far. Considering the first part of the movie is a copy and paste of the destruction of Side 7 with more character and suits, it's fine. I was confused about that big colony that was destroyed after the Archangel was drifting.

Good god this series has shitty animation and art. The characters all look super cutesy for no reason and every character running or trying to fire a gun feels awkward. Everyone has big eyes and it feels hard to tell emotion.

The English voices don't help either. While Kira, Athrun and what's her name Captain have good voices Flay and Lacus' annoy the shit out of me. Especially Flay, it is so god damn weird to hear this cute voice saying all of this threatening shit to everybody.

As for mobile suit designs, those Zaku like things are pretty cool. And I feel much more comfortable with the Strike Gundam's design now. But the fact that Athrun's Gundam turns into a giant laser thing is weird.

With Seed you're better off using the subs IMO.

I heard Kira is annoying as fuck in the subs so I think I'll take a slightly annoying Flay over an eargrinding Kira

That's part of why I can't get into the original Seed series, the animation is just so awful.

I think its the worst animation of any Gundam series alongside the IGLOOS. Also doesn't help the Gundam designs feel unispiried

I actually have no issue with the first SEED series. The story is pretty good when you just sit down and watch it. The Gundam designs are cool to and it makes a good remake of the original series.

Character wise though, I hate Flay. God I hate Flay. She is the absolute worst person in the universe.

Flay was actually one of my personal favorite aspects of SEED. Through her the series showed the turmoils of person who goes through loss during war which, although she was a terrible person, allowed me to sympathize with her and at the very least understand where she was coming from. At the start she wasn't the worst person in the world, but after the fallout of the war took its toll she was a completely different person... that's what I think anyway, I'm just giving my two cents here. :)

Let see... she's the daughter of the Atlantic Federation's Vice Foreign Minister George Allster, Sai Argyle's arranged fiancée, and was a technical college student aboard the space colony Heliopolis before it's destruction. She also hates Coordinators (not helped by the fact they destroyed her home) viewing them as monsters with no right to live and pretty much goes full on psycho once her father's ship is destroyed in a skirmish within Earth's orbit which she blames on Kira for not being fast enough to defeat the ZAFT mobile suits. She then becomes a self serving and manipulative bitch in order to further her own personal vendetta against the coordinators using Kira as her sword and shield... shall I go on? :)
