It's OK. I just get that question a lot, immediately followed by the asker saying FMAB is better.

THis isn't my first time watching the show... It is just my first time watching the series in order without any breaks. The original Dragon Ball was my first time though.

As for GT, I've seen episodes 1, 2, and then like 41-64 or something like that.

Studios didn't have a problem for the last 30+ years doing full series right from the get go. Why is it such a problem now?

I care because it disrupts the show's flow. Plus, having that extra 6 month break has not improved the endings to these shows. As such, what is the break for? The only shows that should have breaks are ones based on manga so that they don't have to deal with filler.

Its keep originality and creativity flowing. I know that sounds cliched and BS but think about it. Having an extra 6 months to plan the next 25 episodes or doing something else allows for fresh ideas and better management of a show's content. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work.

Space Dandy did not improve one bit having a break. In fact, if anything else, the break hurt the show more than it helped it.

The other problem is when these studios leave the first half off with such shitty results it makes me not to even want to bother with the second half when it does air. By the time it airs, I will have moved on to something superior that was good all of the way through and did not just give me the middle finger because it could.

Anyway, I decided to watch the first three episodes to GT since I had nothing else to do. Oh my god the pain, THE PAIN!!!! Three episodes in and they have already screwed up continuity. Not to mention the horrible designs that are Trunks and Vegeta. Who was the moron that thought making Vegeta look like Guile with a mustache was a good idea? Nevermind that Saiyans can never change their hair style as mentioned during the Cell saga. Or that it has been established that Bulma has other siblings. And suddenly the previous Kami being gone no longer wipes out his Dragon Balls. Oh, and I just love how Oob has already been written out of the show just like that. What an insult to Toriyama's ending. ARGH!!!!! The pain, the pain. Now I remember why I only watched certain pieces of this show.

many people don't like GT. especially Toriyama. who had no involvement with GT. and states it's non-canon.

and Uub is brought back in later. :P have some patience. it's only the first 3 episodes.

which is way less than my threshold on if a show can keep me interested. (8 episodes btw)

it also takes more time nowadays to make an anime than it used to. I don't mind six month breaks. hell, they give me more reason to try stuff out, and animation studios don't burn themselves out while making content. I'd rather they enjoy what they make.

Because the industry is WAY BIGGER THAN IT WAS 30+ YEARS AGO. Anime studios deal with a handful of productions every season now, let alone every year. Unless a studio is big enough to dedicate most of their time to one longer-running series at a time, like Toei, Sunrise or Kyoto Animation, then they need to plan around stuff. And even THEN larger studios can still split cours up for time. If a series can easily run two cours and you have other projects needing preparation, do one now and then have the second half under prep for a later season.

You do realize a good chunk anime, especially now, are based on manga and light novels. Even then, them being given breaks is fine as long as it avoids filler when other shows shouldn't, even if it might mean filler episodes to give time for story development?

On top of that this is no different from how TV here works. Seasons end with questions still unanswered, the next season comes out later on in the year. It's not like current Power Rangers where the season's cut off at a point that makes no sense. They end a half-season somewhere that either closes that main storyline and teases the next or leaves a cliffhanger of some sort to guarantee you'll be back for the next part. It's not the show's fault, if anything I think you're just really impatient.

Where are you pulling this from? Wishful thinking? In an official interview he stated that he was quite pleased with GT for what it is, a "side-story" to his own work. And he was involved with the show, he developed the base for the team to work on and he designed things like the ship and Giru.

Of course it's not canon, but he isn’t hating on it or anything ;)

Maybe that is why the anime coming out these days tends to have maybe one good series to be found out of 25 series. They are just crapping things out just to have something on TV.

What is a light novel? And I don't see there being any more shows based on manga than there were before. Before there was Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Dr Slump, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. Today, there is One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail, Attack on Titan, etc.

Yes, but that is why Japanese TV was always superior. They would air a series from start to finish, be done with the show forever, and move to the next. If I wanted it to be like American TV, I would watch American TV. This is Japan, they should be doing things the Japanese way, not the American way.

And yes, part of it is because I am impatient. Don't start me on a show if you are just going to leave it hanging there. That is also why I prefer to watch things on BD/DVD. There is no wait time. I can watch the whole thing in a few days/months depending on how long it is.


To be fair, Toriyama did come up with the show's name and I think he designed SS4 Goku. Oh, and he said he liked the idea Toei was going to do, but yeah, other than that, I believe he despises the show, he just isn't allowed to straight up say it.
