It may be shallow and stupid, but the giant robots are what make me want to watch a season. And while Timeranger/Time Force fails that test (the Red/Blue/Alpha/Beta thing I do not like), this video makes me want to watch both Timeranger and Timeforce. Also, I'm currently watching Gekiranger. And thinking of going back and continuing Gingaman. |

A guy takes out a bin, gets attacked by a giant phallus, boy plays with a yo-yo, "super powers are real!" "Super powers aren't real!" *morphs without ever seeing the morpher before, takes down the villains with ease and shows complete control over his abilities* WHAT?!?! Good news about the film though. |
Watched Battle Fever J episode 9, it was a fantastic episode another one more centric on Battle Japan however I liked the small focus of Kenya and France too. Also that the team was all willing to help out Masao's friend was truly nice of them all. Really likeable cast, really good villains. Really a great sentai if you can get past below average video quality.

I remember when I thought the Gekiranger summer film was sub-par, but having seen more, I realized I had lucked out and got a pretty nice movie with Geki :lol
|
From what ive seen of boukenger the movie for me was weird and slow to watch through. Easily the weakest part of the show.

TVN just put up Go-Bus VS Gokai. I'm so excited!

It didn't win me over to the Shinkengers, though. They were all kind of raging assholes for like, 90% of the movie...

Watched Episode 4 of Bioman and I'm really loving this show. It's picks up by Episode 3 and keeps going good so far.
|
Watched Episode 7 of Gokaiger and Episode 1 of Maskman. Loving Gokaiger and the character development of Don and Ahim, that was great with GekiRed, and loved seeing the Sun Vulcan suits. Maskman was intriguing for a first episode probably going to continue with it.
|
The Gokaiger episode with Jan/GekiRed was probably one of the better episodes.
And I'm not just saying that because of my obvious Gekifanboyism :lol |

It helped that Doc was one of two characters in Gokaiger who received any character growth :lol

Now those parts I will say was disappointing for the Gekirangers

They got shafted. Rather unfortunate. |
So I finally got around to watching the opening episode of Go-Busters and err...I let my standards come down low, as you guys warned me it was very fillery for the first twenty or so episodes but even with that in mind I dunno.
It just felt cheap and tacky, sure that is an inherent part of Toku but I dunno...it was just...so much more so. It felt more like a fanmade series given the general lack of quality in any area. I probably wouldn't have been nearly as harsh either if this was fanmade. I'm not even sure if this is done on purpose as I took the hilariously awful engrish, MMPR (and Power Rangers in general references) and the weird way they put shades on only to walk outside and throw them away as jokes. If this is a joke series I think I have even less interest. And don't get me wrong, the action sequences were really impressive, especially the mech battle which I don't normally care for but...eh... |
I watched Gokaiger episode 8 last night, very intrigued to learn more about their backstories I want to know more about Captain Marvelous. Joe's background is really interesting from the glimpse of it. I also loved the Sneak Brothers they were awesome.

Watched Sun Vulcan episode 3 and enjoyed it. Black Magma have some really good plans. I enjoy the Rangers and The Chief is amazingly fun and awesome. I enjoy the dogfights in the Mecha.

I actually think all the Gokaiger's backstories were really good, even Doc's was good in how much it suited him. Ahim's was developed in one of my favourite episodes and Luka's is very character-making (if that makes sense). Anyway, up to episode 20 of Jetman and really enjoying it, although sometimes just how dark it is compared to the average Sentai/PR series is pretty surprising, I was really not expecting Radiguet to murder that poor sick girl. I also finished Shinkenger a few days ago and loved every minute of it and adored the Shinkenger/Go-onger and Shinkenger/Goseiger films. Both were awesome, although I particularly loved the Shinkenger/Goseiger one. |
Before anyone says anymore on the Gokaigers,
Marvelous receives no development. He is the same from start to finish. Luka receives the second least. In terms of character growth, she does not change at all. In terms of back story, it's brought up once or twice with no real resolution. Ahim receives the next least. She does change a little. Her back story is brought up a few times, and resolved when she confronts her specific enemy. Joe is next. His back story is actually a major plot point. He changes very little, but there is a clear change. Doc is last, receiving the most development and growth. And he's awesome for it. |

In fact, I feel this way watching anything not American. When I had my first glimpse at Doctor Who, I felt that same unsettled feeling. Even as a kid, while I enjoyed the Mr Bean episodes, I felt something was wrong. I enjoyed some Hong Kong and Korean dramas, but they felt too smooth and fake-feeling. When I started my first Super Sentai series, Shinkenger, I felt weird watching it fresh off Power Rangers RPM. RPM was fast-paced, lots of flashy lights with fights that were quick and gritty. Shinkenger was very drawn out, and the drawn out nature of things made it more easy to spot flaws inherent in Tokusatsu (both Power Rangers and Super Sentai). I told myself I would probably quit after a few episodes, but I was curious to see how the story went, so I stayed on. Once I got past the unsettled feeling, I began to enjoy it a lot more and I still do to this day. It's really just something you have to break in to. I'm not sure why we feel this way. It might be culture shock, but I suspect it has something to do with the video framerate or something, I don't know. Kind of like how the people who watched the Hobbit in 60fps felt it looked really fake. |
I was about to be all "I don't understand how different filming methods could be so unsettling."
Then my dumbass realized I've been watching this stuff since before I even knew what it was :lol Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Dairanger, Couga (Kuuga) :lol |

My brother and I, however, could not. That didn't stop us, though (Despite them having no subtitles) :lol |

My only regret is that our Grandmother's satellite didn't pick up any toku shows. Tons of anime, but outside of some kind of TV special, not a Sentai or (Once the 90's was over) Rider to be found. Oh, and that I never rented the Jetman videos. The store had Jetman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, and...A 4th who I don't remember (Wasn't Kaku or Oh. Most likely pre-Jet). I probably would've really liked the Jetman stuff when I was younger... |

The only back story of Luka's that I remember was the sister thing. So slide her above Ahim in terms of development. |

It was like the one scene in DaiRanger when Jin punches his g/f. It is left unclear whether he killed her or just knocked her out because nothing comes out if again. BTW, whomever said Marvelous did not receive any growth is wrong. We see his past throughout the series. We see his growth in the movies. Sure, his attitude is the same throughout the entire series, but that does not mean he never grows. We see the flashbacks of what made him the hero he is at the start of the series. He's like the Batman of Sentai. His growth is seen through the past not the present or future. |
