Re-watching Madoka Magica in preparation for the third movie on December 9th. :D
|
So I'm up to ep 4 of AIR, and is that it? Is her arc done?
Like seriously? The heck? |
After Finishing Ninja Nonsense, I started Mahoromatic seasons 1 and 2 and it wasn't that bad. Now I'm starting DearS.

Just finished watching Wolf Children. It was... Beautiful! :cry

So finished AIR, a tearjerking and heartbreaking story that will change your life... but only on theory, on practice is a completely different subject.
Adapting Visual Novels is always a tricky subject, even moreso when you only have 12 episodes to work with and basically 5 different stories. In this case they tried to show all of them, resulting in a not very cohesive and broken story. The concepts and story of AIR are prefectly fine, and in it's original form must be quite heartbreaking, this is a case of good story that is badly told, not only are the situations are very compressed, but at points it feels like you are missing chunks of the story, the time you are given to get attached to the characters is mimimum and outside of the feathers the 3 main storylines are incredibly disconnected. AIR has a tendency to jump straight to the dramatic moments, without proper time to develop it's storylines, there are very slow scenes with incredibly long general shots, while other points move incredibly fast without properly explaining the situations or the symbolism behind the show, you understand on time, but it feels like a lot of exposition and stablishing scenes were lost. Still, the merits of the original story do show through, and the incredible setting and magic realism of this world are quite fascinating, and as such I can understand the reasons why people like this show, it's a good story, and honestly I quite enjoyed the Kanna and Minagi arcs, even in it's compressed form, but undeniably the adaptation work feels sloppy and unrefined. So did I like AIR? The anime... nope, it's honeslty a subpar work, and a bad handling of the original material. But the experience? Quite so, Key shows promise with it's interesting storylines and the next two shows have more episodes and more experience behind them, so they may turn out to be great. Overall, a fun ride, through a subpar anime (imo) and a fascinating world which deserved more. |
Fair enough. I enjoyed it but yeah I'll admit Air is a bit of a mess. My best guess is that Air is simply a victim of being cut short and could have easily been made to a twenty six episode series at the least.
|
Or just make it all about Minagi, because that was totally the best arc in the show. :p
It would have worked better on 26 episodes, or if they had to go with 12, as much as it pains me to say, drop the other two heroines arc, those 4 episodes would have been useful. |

So then... shall you continue on to Kanon? |

Oh yeah, I plan to watch all three of them, but I guess I'll finish Macross Frontier first, I've had that show on hiatus for far too long. |

I can wait. :D |

|
After about half an hour into Wolf Children it dawned on me... how the fuck was I able to watch this in Japanese? :lol
|
Okay, so Wolf Children. I'll be honest when I watched it Japanese I didn't see all of it and I believe I stopped it just after the winter scene. But, now that I've seen the whole thing in English I have but one thing to say... SEE THIS MOVIE PEOPLE! That's your homework from gun this week, go watch Ame and Yuki Wolf Children. It's so beautiful! :cry

Re-watched 5 Centimeters Per Second. It never fails to make me smile and brings tears to my eyes.
|
Since I couldn't watch Frontier today, I decide to start with Evangelion... yeah I've never watched it, deal with it. :p
Things that I learned from the first two eps: -Shinji is a wuss. -Those things bleed, a lot. -Genbu is magnificent bastard. -Bandaged girl. -It's a Gundam! -I'ts an Angel! -Angels follow the Gundam Wing strategy book: Self Destruct! And the things that I know due to spoilers, which may be wrong or right: -Shinji is a wuss. -With a thing for comatose girls... ick. -Those things bleed, because they are cloned from angels? 01 has Shinji's mother soul? -Genbu is magnificent bastard. -Who wants to make everyone into a giant jello pool, for reasons? Somebody'll get strangled in the end. -Bandaged girl is a clone? There are tons of em, and they may also be related to Shinji's mother. -I'ts an Angel! There are 7 I think. -There's this guy called... Kaworu? He may be an angel too... May have the hots for Shinji, I'm pretty sure he is offed by Shinji. -Asuka... something... mother... something... doll... something... i don't remeber that one very well. Btw, do the first two eps lack the opening? *Edit: No, they don't, I just learned that. |
I was watching Midori Days when this came up:
