Are we sure these are still based off of animals that existed? I mean, the coins have very clear, very realistic depictions of the animals on them. Why are the zords so... weird?

I'm not sure. I'd also like to know why it has 8 legs...

The combined megazord itself I can give it a pass just on overall design alone without context.

No kidding, the mastodon zord looks like a mutated tardigrade with a longer snout/mouth thingy.

MEANWHILE, INSIDE THE DESIGNERS ROOM:

Dude 2: It's like an elephant, but hairy.
Dude 1: No, that's a mammoth. This is a mastodon. Anyway, I'm gonna make it look like a bug. Kids like bugs, right?
