This argument again? You aren't treading any new ground dragging that one out. In a lot of cases you're probably right, but broadly applying it to everyone who dislikes the film is ridiculous. I never watched Power Rangers. My nostalgia connection to the series is precisely zero. I'm not judging the film based on how much it's like the TV show. I'm judging this film strictly on its own merits. It looks awful. (Note: Apparently I have to spell this out. That is my opinion. I am not stating it as a universal fact.)

This film gives every appearance of being just another CG-laden mess utilizing an existing property to put butts in the seats. The action appears unremarkable and derivative, the acting seems mediocre, and the writing awkward. Market this film as another nostalgia-laden property or even it's own thing and my opinion isn't going to magically change. Strictly on its own, this does not look like a good movie. (Again, to me. Enjoy it all you want. I hope it makes a billion bucks at the box office and spawns sixty-seven sequels. I'm just not interested in seeing it.)

Great new trailer. The Zords look good, the Megazord looks great, Alpha doesn't look neatly as bad in-motion, the Ranger suits also look awesome in-motion, the Putties look like legitimate forces to be dealt with, Goldar looks pretty cool, and Zordon doesn't look bad.

That said, my favorite bits are those pertaining to the personalities of the Rangers. I'm really liking how both Zack and Billy seem like their going to turn out.

I really hope this does well enough to get a sequel made. Ideally two, so we can get Tommy as the evil Green Ranger in one and then his redemption as the White Ranger in another, but I'll take what I can get.

Not even bothering to read half the comments, I know to expect the same "nothing this movie could do would please us" hate that any franchise adaptation receives. Some of these people would probably complain about a blowjob from a porn star.

Anyways, I really enjoyed the trailer. The zords and megazord look great in their cg models, the humor is mostly on point, action looks fantastic. Absolutely love how Zordon was done as well, and Alpha looks really good too (headlights are still taking some getting used to, but I still dig the design).

You know what else is blatantly formulaic? Star Wars. And I mean the originals.

No one is trying curtail discussion, but it's perfectly possible to do it without labelling each other haters or apologists or whatever.
