I've already seen Toei alongside with AB Production going against fansubbing groups for Dragon Ball as an example.
Because actually "subbing" the stuff, is "stealing" some professional jobs. Yeah, THAT argument was already used by both parties...notably in french speaking countries. The thing is, right now, Toei would go against people uploading episodes of their IPs, they can't do jack shit against subbers except if the company having the Kamen Rider rights in the US would join the party. I can legitimately understand people being afraid but if we have to do like ten years ago or so, having to go to some obscure websites to download the rawfile of the week, then fans will do just that. We've already done that years ago, we'll do it again. The day I'll stop is when there will be an official alternative that is global and not exclusive to the US. |
Over-Time should literally just revert back to their "W-Time" roots and just release only the scripts to use with a certain RAW that you can find through your own means. Other people used to do all of the video encoding and linking until Over-Time wanted to do it all themselves.

Weird how the public sub groups have had to announce their C&D orders, yet the completely private sub groups haven't said a word. IzuSubs and NonActionableFansubs immediately come to mind. Hell, the latter sub group is literally uploading new files as I type this message. Companies and people even bigger than TOEI have NEVER been able to do shit about this. That's how torrenting works - it lives on as long as SOMEONE out there gives a shit. Nyaa has been taken down 3 times as far as I remember, and today, it's still as good as it was before. I get if people are upset because it feels like you're being told to go fuck yourself, as a long-time fan, but I've personally never been invested in this franchise because I ever gave a shit about what its producers thought about me - or even the fact that I exist. I like it because it is what it is. Access to it has literally never felt restricting to me, even when I had really horrible internet. |

Heck, I've been a relatively casual fan for 7-ish years at this point (wow) and never got too deep into it other than posting here. I've always had easy access to stuff. I've never had to download raws and sub files separately. I've never seen any of this stuff get taken down (if it's happened during the time I've been a fan then I guess I didn't notice). But a company sending a letter to fansubbing groups telling them to stop? If you're not a long-hauler, that certainly sounds like the end. Now, you're right - things will be fine, there are work arounds. And that's a good thing. But like I said in my opening sentence - why do you seem so offended that people are worried? Just reassure them and move on. edit: okay, I remember KRDL being taken down at one point, but I just switched to getting them from the fansub groups themselves. |
"I've never worried about this so I don't understand why others are" isn't exactly the best response to this considering, as stated, the tokusatsu community has grown in the west since the old day and just because you've dealt with the whole "we gotta go underground" era of subs doesn't mean everyone has.
This is old to you. This is new to many others. Treating them like they're being silly makes you look stuck-up. |
Thankfully, Toei’s efforts to clamp down on fansubs seem about as half-hearted and weak as, well, their attempts to bring Rider to the west. From what I’ve seen it looks like we’ll still be getting what we have been getting... though it is harder, which I can see locking out certain people and scaring off new viewers. It’s a blow for sure, but not as bad as it could be.

the weak who give up shall perish first But seriously, this is real unfortunate for the newer people who aren't used to this sort of thing. Hell, I don't have any idea about putting the raws and subs together. Never had to, since I always got the subbed version and never them separately. |
Not like that's an issue with Izu Subs releases which are only subs since someone not affiliated with them on the wonderful cat site puts together full releases of both subtitle and video.
So I wouldn't be surprised if people ended up just doing that if we ended up just having sub groups release subtitle only stuff. |
