To me and to some countries in Europe, it’s accepted as normal.
You still have some that don’t like differences but you have that everywhere.
So yeah, this scene was normal and not newsworthy.
It’s because of people making it exceptional that makes it not normal.

I perfectly understand what you’re saying. You try to downplay something great as not noteworthy because it "should be normal". It isn’t sadly, that's the problem. These little breakthroughs must be celebrated for what they are: Little breakthroughs. Because it is not normal to have LGBTQ+ people in a Tokusatsu show, it’s still an exception.

Because they are minorities that face way too much hate and pain simply for who they are? They need support. We can give it to them by being understanding, supportive and celebrating their victories. One day it will be normal. But until then, events such as these are "newsworthy".

No, I'm pretty sure what makes it not normal are conservative people and bigots who call the LGBTQ+ community names, brand their way of life a "sin", politicians who don’t support their medical needs and fascists who hunt them down in the streets.

We don't isolate minorities for making their progress in society visible. We isolate them by ignoring them.

This franchise has LGBTQ+ fans, but it has not given them representation. There have been characters who were intended to be gay or those who some have considered as LGBTQ+ in some capacity, but never confirmed to be outright.

2017 Trini is important, but she wasn't shown with anyone in the same manner as Izzy, just given a line or two. Also, 2017 Trini didn't appear in the show, which has always been the most important element (no offense to the BOOM! continuity intended, especially since they also have an LGBTQ+ Ranger couple)!

This also isn't anything which should give someone offense, either. They don't have Izzy say outright that she is LGBTQ+, it's just obvious from context, and nobody is looking at the couple with hate in their eyes. That's why this is important! Little moments which showcase a franchise that is willing to move forward and treat what should be considered normal as normal! One day they'll show more overt elements, and those of us who support this move will praise those moments as well. Izzy has broken new ground, and that's worth saying something, even if it is just a little moment.

A user a page or two ago said that kids don't want "progressive politics", but I can't agree with this! Despite the criticisms this franchise has had to endure, I believe that many kids are aware that masquerading as a Ranger for Halloween won't necessarily make them a monster-fighting Ranger in real life, but I also believe in the momentary potential that seeing a person expressing love to another person without condemnation could give them renewed hope for this world as that is something real people can experience in real life!

What about the LGBTQ+ conservates? Yes I kniw sbocking there are those that exist, they have beem shunned cause how their own community has shifted, and I'm a conservatie who'd happily accept any future kids who come out as gay, bi, or lesbian, but in my opinion, waiting till their teens is a better time when most kids would be more ready to understand on that more romance level, which is NOT the age for power rangers. Again it's an opinion.

Apparently not, cause I've seen how this can get on social media, and the moment someone tries to mediate a situation, it doesn't stop, I think this thread should be locked as it's starting get too political & bringing in stereotypesof religions in as well, which probs won't end well.

... It's hand holding, one of the most basic ways of showing and establishing affection without going too explicit. A show of affection that's been used multiple times in past PR seasons when there's a romance, just that this time it's with a same gender couple instead.

Like I feel like this is the sort of reaction you'd have to seeing kid show characters straight out FRENCHING another person. Just SLOBBERING over each other. Like I'd at least understand that. Hell, I'd be upset if they did it with a hetero couple because that's just too much for a kid's show. But this is just hand holding, why can't LGBT+ people at least have that?

Again, I'm all for not wanting cheap tokenism that's done distastefully, but this is like, one of the most cookiecutter ways to show affection in a kid's show, just now they're the same gender.

Only certain people are making it political. The rest of us are celebrating and we're told not to because either Power Rangers is for kids and kids don't "need to see that" (despite experiencing those feelings at a Power Ranger age level) or that it's some kind of agenda or being gay is just wrong.

Fans: We want more representation and mature instances and themes in our kids show.

Other fans: Wait, not like that.

Again, and this bears repeating. Having LGTBQ representation in Power Rangers is not an agenda, it's not political. It doesn't matter what you think about it, because the people in charge signed off on it after nearly 30 years. In addition, kids who watch Power Rangers are starting to feel a certain way about others. That's what a "crush" is. It doesn't necessarily mean it's sexual in nature.

And, Power Rangers has its adult LGBTQ fans and just people who aren't gay in the least and are happy to see representation.

So, maybe y'all can stop making it political and let us have this moment.
